My husband & I was celebrating our 21st anniversary & this has become one of our favorite places!!!
Great experience, food was excellent and our waiter was very nice. I have no complaints other than a couple people in my party said that it was slightly overpriced. Overall, awesome restaurant.
I always like going to Hemingway's. The food is great, the service is excellent and the atmosphere is indescribable. I would suggest anyone who is in Asheville to visit Hemingway's.
Everything from cocktails to the main course was delicious! We will definitely be returning!
Food distinctive, attractively presented, service attentive and responsive. Ambiance a bit cold and “institutional” — could be warmer, more inviting and luxurious.
Overall a fantastic experience with a pallomilla that rivaled my Abuela’s. We ate at the restaurant late night and inside but the balcony would’ve been a much better experience. Highly recommend the Cuban sour drink!
Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious! Would dine again!
Family outing group of seven service was horrible our waitress was not very attentive at all we had to flag him down every time we wanted something which was super disappointing other than the service
Food authentic and outstanding and waitress was excellent
There was no music playing and so it felt like a cafeteria as far as ambience. The food was so so, as far as Asheville goes there are sooooo many places I would choose over Hemingways. Staff was very friendly but I won't go back.
My table was reserved at the opentable but there was no reservation, I asked outside and they wanted to put me inside. I asked to be near the fireplace, the manager told me that the service could not go there (lie) and in the end, passed on my card the bill of another table, 3x larger than mine
My friend and I were the only table for a bit. We asked the host for sugar and she didn’t bring the sugar till almost the end of the. We watched her walk away and talk to someone, worker or not, at the bar. For being one of two tables at the end of our visit the service wasn’t that great.
Food and service very good. Cheesecake for dessert was ultra small portion for a very high price ($9.00).
great food and atmosphere! The rooftop is perfect on a warm night
This is the first time in about a year and a half that I have dined here (twice before) and with guest from out of state.
It was at least 15 minutes before the server arrived after being show our table.
We ordered our drinks and 2 starters to share.
At around 30 minutes later our meals arrived but the starters had not come yet. We reminded the runner who delivered our meals and of course he knew nothing of where the starters were. Our server stopped by and we reminded her of our order she headed for the kitchen and they arrived after we had started eating!!
I ordered two starters, as did one of my guests (my usual routine in most restaurant in fact did the same the night before at the Omni Grove Park!)
On my previous visits to Hemingway's I had the Ceviche which I had raved to many friends about. It was beautifully served in a dish over ice and besides being delicious was beautiful to look at so I looked forward to a repeat performance. What arrived could only be described as an avocado/tomato salad with some tiny bits of shrimp. There was no other fish, although I thought I did see a tiny piece of something that may have been fish. It did not look or taste a bit like so many Ceviches I've had over the years. It didn't taste bad just not like what was expected.
We also ordered the Grilled Shrimp Lettuce Wraps. These came for us to wrap (which is OK) but with the same mixture they called Ceviche! Again the shrimp were tiny pieces, with no indication of grilling or grill taste. The only difference between this menu item and the Ceviche was that the "shrimp" mixture was served over a scoop of black beans. The biggest difference between the the two dishes was one was served in a square little dish and the other in a round dish!! The third person in the party ordered the Vaca Frita and said it was delicious. So I guess all was lost. But all in all a very disappointing evening which I had promised would be great!
Food was great. But if you go on a sunny day, until the sun sets there is literally no comfortable seats, inside or out. We will go back (food very good) but will time it better.
The specialty cocktails were wonderful but the bartenders were not very outgoing or attentive. We had to get their attention 2-4 times. The food and server for dinner were excellent.
The food was delicious! We had beef empanadas, fried plantain chips, coconut shrimp, arroz con pollo and seafood paella. Everything was great except for the paella. The mussels had a funky smell and permeated to the rest of the dish. We didn't get sick, but they were not fresh. The service was excellent and the crowd was nice!
First time there! From the time we walked in until we left it was outstanding!! Can’t wait to return!!
Family took our Parents to celebrate their birthdays. Very good food. Service was great as was atmosphere. It was a very nice evening.
I wasn’t impressed with the crowd or my server, there were 7-10 early 20s in unicorn backpacks and pajama pants saying the f word every 5 minutes I am in my 30s the language doesn’t bother me it was just rude to continue talking so loudly I tried to take a video of the rooftop but they were so loud I could only take a picture we got sat right next to the door so every time the door opened the breeze was too much, the server was distracted with people coming in off the rooftop and was not very attentive to our table, the food was good but way overpriced for the environment and the portion. Overall I would not recommend this place to anyone
We visited Hemingway's on a previous visit to town and came back this time. Food was excellent, service was top notch and prompt and a very pleasant experience. Very easy to have a conversation too. We'll be back next time we're in town.
This was our second time and will go again. The service was not nearly as good as our first experience, but they did have a large wedding party outside so we are guessing our waitress was busy or overwhelmed. The food was delicious but not hot...maybe because of the large party. The cocktails were unique and delicious.
Our food was excellent, the hostess and server were professional and attentive. Sunset was amazing!
Visiting Asheville and found this gem of a Cuban restaurant! You should definitely check it out!
Very nice restaurant and great food with an even better view off of their rooftop patio. The server seemed to be in a bad mood which is the only reason for the 4 out of 5 rating.
Good food, enjoyable atmosphere, service a bit slow
Good food, not great service. Waited a long time to be greeted and for food!
This is a great place for meeting with friends, great views and wonderful food!
A recommendation with reservations. The food was fair plus. We were there on Saturday night and were seated near the bar. The noise level was horrendous. We could not hear each other without shouting. I think there are some noise reducing things you could do to the ceiling and/or the floor to make it more comfortable.
We did enjoy our dinner with my family. The food was good and the dessert & coffee! The rooftop where we could see the mountains & the view of the sky was amazing!! It was my husbands birthday & I wanted to make it memorable for him!! We will definitely be back!!
Food is good. Not the best Cuban but good. Service was poor . Inside looks more like a hotel sports bar and restaurant than an authentic Cuban restaurant. It’s ok. Was hoping for better.
The atmosphere was similar to a hotel sports bar. The food was very average. Overall a disappointing experience.
The food was excellent and the atmosphere was pleasant. Our waitress put a damper on the night because we were asked to wait several times when we were ready to order and had to make a point to request to order, have our bill and refill on water. When we were ready to pay we asked to pay for our own bills - only four people - and she didn’t know what who had ordered what and suggested we split the bill four ways several times even after reassuring her we wanted it to be separate. I eventually walked her through each person’s order. Overall I would go back but would pray for a different server. Spending an extended time at a restaurant is never pleasant when you have an agenda. We were a small bachelorette party and had plans after which had to be pushed back significantly.
I think there are better places in Asheville to eat. I think the outside was nice but it was cold and overcast. The food was really just so so. Mine was greasy, the plantains were really good.
We sat outside, watched the sunset, had a lovely glass of Spanish wine and a bowl of plantain chips while we chatted with the server and made decisions about the rest of our meal. Decisions, decisions. So many wonderful choices. One of us liked the beef empanadas, another loved the lechon sliders. Sides were good too as were the churros with dulce de leche and chocolate. Wonderful evening.
We had a really nice meal here. We were lucky enough to have good weather and dine outside on the rooftop deck. We were treated with a gorgeous sunset to cap off a very nice dining experience. We ordered too much food, but there were so many things on the menu that we wanted to try. The ceviche was nice, but would have liked the mix chopped a little finer to make it easier to scoop up with the tasty plantain chips. I don't remember out waitress name, but she was awesome, and gave us solid advice on the menu.
The empanadas have the flakiest crust I've ever tried! Everything we ordered was very good.
Food very nicely prepared and presented... ambiance cold and institutional, greeter acted like we were an interruption to he evening.
