The view from the outside patio was amazing. We ordered mojitos from the bar and they were great as well. I had a reservation for a table, we were seated and never ever waited on!!! Waitstaff walked by us and ignored us, we waited 10 - 15 minutes. It was already close to 9 pm, it was not very crowded either. We left and went to wasabi, had great service there. I would recommend Hemingway's for the view but not sure I'd want to go back really. We were really disappointed. I've worked as a waitress before, it would have been nice if the waitor just came over to say hi and tell us they were busy, i could have understood, but to be ignored, that's not okay
Delicious food and wonderful views!we had a party of ten and they handled it very well
Cool space on 4th floor of downtown Asheville hotel with outdoor patio and mountain views. Inside gets very loud. Wait staff was great although bar was very backed up and took too long for first drinks. Entrees- ribs and rope vieja- as well as appetizer croquettes were some of best we have had. Side dishes with exception of sweet plantains were ordinary and tasted like they had been steam table too long. All in all a memorable place with some memorable food. Prices are very good for return.
The French fries were the best thing we ate. Everything else was average.
One of the best views in Asheville, modern rooftop restaurant indoor and outdoor table seating & lounge seating. Food is mostly very good, we liked everything we ate ( on two separate occasions) except the vegetarian Paella, cocktails were very tasty, Loved the flan.
The views of Asheville are it worthwhile esp on a nice night!
Tasty food and good service.
The food was tasty and fun. Our server was friendly and prompt. And although we had reserved indoor seating, they found us a great table out on the rooftop. We ate fairly early and it was apparent that the crowd was coming in as we left. Perfect timing for us. The view was great, too.
This was a Cuban style McDonalds when it comes to food. Recommend drinks only. Drinks were amazing along with the atmosphere of the roof top overlook!
Excellent atmosphere, food, and sunset views..authentic Cuban food and drinks
We were drawn to Hemingway's by their inclusion of ropa vieja and paella on their menu. My wife makes a mean ropa vieja herself, and I do a solid paella, so we wanted to compare. Anytime you leave a spot satisfied with how well their food compares to yours, it's a solid bet the food was tasty. We dined around 5:30 on a Saturday night, and sat outside in the rooftop area. The views were memorable, though to be fair, it's mostly of other buildings. Still, it's a unique setting. We started with two drinks, neither of which were particularly memorable other than being slightly on the weak side. Meanwhile, we went ahead and ordered the dishes we sought mostly because the paella is freshly prepared so takes 35-40 minutes. We had the ropa vieja come out at the same time. Both dishes were excellent. The ropa vieja was a dark, concentrated meaty stew that came with our choice of two sides. We chose the rice and beans and tostones. Each paired nicely with the stew, especially the tostones which are on the bland side; however, the stew was a bit overpowering (deftness of various spices and herbs was not a strong suit) so the tostones tamped down the over eager sauce. The paella valencia was quite good, as well, though it suffered from the same sense of too much of a good thing, in this case being the tomato-based sauce in which the rice, chicken, and rabbit were cooked. There was a hint of saffron, but it was overwhelmed by the tomato. Still, the beloved socarrat was there in abundance, and the proteins were cooked properly, i.e., not overdone. Our server was joyful and engaging, so that helped make the evening a success, too. I've had better ropa vieja and paella, but both of these were solid incarnations. Next time we're in town, we'll most likely drop in again.
The atmosphere and flavor of the food at Hemingway's is great. Both the chicken and steak we ordered were overcooked, very dry, and some pieces were inedible. If you order food, be sure to request that the meat be rare or medium rare, and your meal will probably be fantastic.
We celebrated our sons graduation from high school. The restaurant is beautiful, and our service was great. I found the food to be good, just not as unique and flavorful as I expected.
Great location and beautiful outdoor seating area. Had the yucca fries, ceviche, chicken empanada, paella, and vaca frita. Everything was good, the paella wasn’t great (probably my least favorite).
Excellent food and service and a great view of the city and mountains beyond!
Everything was amazing
Our 2nd time there. Fantastic food, great views of the mountains. Had friends from Canada visiting who will visit again.
The food was super good! Not to mention, the views were incredible. Definitely going back soon.
What a wonderful place to overlook Asheville and look at the beautiful mountain views.
Our waitress was very helpful with helping us decide on cocktails and explaining menu items.
We had the tostones board as an appetizer and it was enough for 4 of us to share and was so good. My husband and I had the seafood paella for two And it was delicious, with enough to take a little home.
After dinner, we had cocktails outside and watched sunset. Perfect evening.
Palomilla had a good taste but beans and congri were very smokey (not authentic)
Good food, great service
Went there for my birthday with some friends. Making and changing my reservation was smooth with them. Our waitress was amazing. She really made my birthday special. Even asked me if I wanted to pop the bottle for my birthday! The food was incredible and the ambiance was amazing. I’d recommend this spot for just about ANY occasion.
Great rooftop dining, with great mountain views. Unfortunately, our server was not very attentive. The food was a mixed bag. We had one paella for 2 (which takes 30 minutes to prepare) that was really good. Unfortunately, the other 2 meals were cold and dry, and had obviously been sitting for a while.
I think others, with a different server, had a different experience than we did.
Nice place to relax after a busy day. Love the terrace.
The food was fine but it is probably some of the worst service I've ever had . I wouldn't recommend it.
Great food and service. Couldn’t ask for a better setting outside overlooking city and mountains.
My husband and I were in Asheville to celebrate his birthday, and I had made a reservation at Hemingway's Cuba specifically so that we could watch the sunset while having dinner. I had read an article about Asheville's best rooftop bars and HC was mentioned. We were disappointed that we were not seated out on the terrace (probably my fault for not asking, I didn't know!) and that although we were given a table by a window, there was another building blocking our view of the sunset. We decided to "get over" that initial hiccup and ended up having a lovely meal. We ordered drinks and got the wrong ones at first- there are two drinks on the menu with similar names (cuban sour and cuban fusion). We tried the drinks but did not like them, so our server was kind enough to replace them at no charge and provide us with what we had originally wanted. We started with the croquetas de jamón and the tostones board while we waited for our mariscos paella to cook. When all was said and done, we couldn't finish the paella- it was lovely and super tasty but HUGE! Everything was delicious and we really did end up having a good time. If we were to go back, I would absolutely request to sit out on the balcony!
Attended brunch....great selection... refilled items quickly as they were depleted. Staff very responsive.
The food was well prepared and presented until they took appetizer plates away and asked us to keep our dirty silverware on the bare table... yuk!! Just as we were finishing our main dish, a big party sat next to us and our waiter disappeared. We were not offered dessert and had to ask the manager for our check.
We are locals and I don’t think we will be back.
Not a romantic place. A lot of movement around you and noise from the bar. But it all depends on your mood.
Well this was not the experience I was looking for in wonderful Asheville NC
Waited 10 minutes for water and cocktail order
Very long wait for our drinks Finally a very nice but extremely inattentive waiter took our drink order.
After the long wait, our order was placed
Error on my entree, yet delicious chicken even with the mix up. Our waiter was definitely scheduled to more tables than he could handle
My hubby had a bland meal, nothing special in the ham
croquettes, wasn’t flavorful as in other restaurants.
Very nice and friendly staff, yet service and meal were disappointing
I wish that they would have had Spanish music even recorded Spanish artist and stead of things like Ed Sheeran or other pop music overall nicest rooftop area out of the 5 we visited in Asheville
I came with my family to celebrate my birthday. I got the "Crispy Pork" dinner...the meat was very tough... everything else was nice. Our waitress was wonderful and very attractive. All in all we had a very nice time.
Our server did a wonderful job. However, it took entirely too long to receive our food considering the number of the people present on a Thursday evening.
We have eaten at Hemingway's Cuba a number of times, and it is always superb.
Beautiful view, food, and drinks. Paella was ready much more quickly than anticipated, but we had plenty of time to walk around and enjoy the city and mountain views while we waited.
The food was not authentic, and not awesome. If you are accustomed to and or prefer bland American food, this will be a great option for you.
Based on the reviews I thought this would be a great place to celebrate my daughters graduation party. It is nicely appointed but the food and service were very disappointing. My husband and I shared the paella seafood for two. Two others in our party also shared the same dish. Our order came out 20 minutes earlier than the second order. The dish was presented in a small version of the typical paella pan and served on plates that would be equivalent to bread plates. The amount of seafood was minimal. Service on our cocktails was spotty as well.
