Visiting Asheville and found this gem of a Cuban restaurant! You should definitely check it out!
Very nice restaurant and great food with an even better view off of their rooftop patio. The server seemed to be in a bad mood which is the only reason for the 4 out of 5 rating.
Good food, not great service. Waited a long time to be greeted and for food!
This is a great place for meeting with friends, great views and wonderful food!
A recommendation with reservations. The food was fair plus. We were there on Saturday night and were seated near the bar. The noise level was horrendous. We could not hear each other without shouting. I think there are some noise reducing things you could do to the ceiling and/or the floor to make it more comfortable.
We did enjoy our dinner with my family. The food was good and the dessert & coffee! The rooftop where we could see the mountains & the view of the sky was amazing!! It was my husbands birthday & I wanted to make it memorable for him!! We will definitely be back!!
Food is good. Not the best Cuban but good. Service was poor . Inside looks more like a hotel sports bar and restaurant than an authentic Cuban restaurant. It’s ok. Was hoping for better.
The atmosphere was similar to a hotel sports bar. The food was very average. Overall a disappointing experience.
The food was excellent and the atmosphere was pleasant. Our waitress put a damper on the night because we were asked to wait several times when we were ready to order and had to make a point to request to order, have our bill and refill on water. When we were ready to pay we asked to pay for our own bills - only four people - and she didn’t know what who had ordered what and suggested we split the bill four ways several times even after reassuring her we wanted it to be separate. I eventually walked her through each person’s order. Overall I would go back but would pray for a different server. Spending an extended time at a restaurant is never pleasant when you have an agenda. We were a small bachelorette party and had plans after which had to be pushed back significantly.
I think there are better places in Asheville to eat. I think the outside was nice but it was cold and overcast. The food was really just so so. Mine was greasy, the plantains were really good.
We sat outside, watched the sunset, had a lovely glass of Spanish wine and a bowl of plantain chips while we chatted with the server and made decisions about the rest of our meal. Decisions, decisions. So many wonderful choices. One of us liked the beef empanadas, another loved the lechon sliders. Sides were good too as were the churros with dulce de leche and chocolate. Wonderful evening.
We had a really nice meal here. We were lucky enough to have good weather and dine outside on the rooftop deck. We were treated with a gorgeous sunset to cap off a very nice dining experience. We ordered too much food, but there were so many things on the menu that we wanted to try. The ceviche was nice, but would have liked the mix chopped a little finer to make it easier to scoop up with the tasty plantain chips. I don't remember out waitress name, but she was awesome, and gave us solid advice on the menu.
The empanadas have the flakiest crust I've ever tried! Everything we ordered was very good.
Food very nicely prepared and presented... ambiance cold and institutional, greeter acted like we were an interruption to he evening.
I ordered a dish that came out to me so stuff that I couldnt cut it, much less eat it. The appetizer was good, slightly overcooked also, but edible.
As always, the food was delicious, especially the empanadas and the arroz con pollo. We always try to get there at 4:30 when they first open and sit just outside the door on the patio, because the kitchen is VERY slow and as the tables fill up so is the service.
Great food and great outdoor seating!
Outstanding view from the open air dining side, and inside was very nice too. Great Atmosphere!
Waitress was great.
Roof top bar is very nice. Great view and set up.
Food extremely salty and garlicky.
Noise level got nuts. We left as we couldn’t converse anymore
The food and locate are amazing! Authentic Cuban fare. Many tables are so close that conversations that DONNT include your neighbors almost seem rude. The drinks were a bit weak - but that was remedied by added floaters.
Nice place. Music too Loud in restaurant. Food was average. Service was mediocre at best. Server took some of out party’s order then disappeared for a long time before returning to finish taking remaining orders. One main course and starters came out quickly. The rest took for ever. Overall a disappointing experience
We arrived and were not offered a choice of seating , had reservations, order was incorrect, service was spotty, food was tolerable, asparagus supposedly a la plancha, was oily. Polyester napkins, yuck!!!!!
Maybe am very picky, but shouldn’t everyone be allowed to be PICKY?
Great views and cocktails!
Lively atmosphere with great views when seated outside. Food was delicious, authentic Cuban but could have been hotter as both our dishes were barely warm. Prices are reasonable and service was good.
Hubby & I enjoyed a wonderful meal & dining experience at Hemingway’s Cuba. First time here, and the service and food were terrific. Thank you!
Great place! Food was delicious and service was excellent! And the views out on the patio was top notch! Will definitely recommend it!
Food was delicious; view is phenomenal; wait staff was attentive. Very enjoyable!
The food was fantastic- the ambiance incredible. Our service was terrible. The server was not attentive and it took more than 10 minutes from sitting down to get water. The server placed the wrong order for my dish and then tried to argue that I told her something different.
If we had another server I would say 5 out of 5. Next time we will sit at the bar but will definitely be back.
We enjoyed a quiet breakfast before we left for home. Our server was wonderful and the hostess waited until I drank a sip of my freshly made decaf (to make sure it was ok). I especially loved the Cuban potatoes!!
Our main complaint about our recent visit was the extremely slow service. We waited 40 minutes for our food to arrive. The waitress told us several times she was checking on it but it kept being delayed. She told us The service was slow because more people walked in off the street than expected. When we got there it was not crowded at all. The crowd picked up soon before we left. It’s part of their job to be able to manage walk in traffic. The quality of the food was OK but not worth the wait.
I had read some not so great reviews about the service and now I understand why. Our server was great but the flow of our experience was inconsistent. We were seated and got drinks and appetizers in a timely fashion but it took over an hour to get entrees. Mine was a sandwich and my husbands pork chunks. The people next to us ordered paella after us (which is supposed to take an extra 30 minutes). The got theirs and finished eating before ours arrived. The flavors were good but seemed reheated or dried out. I still recommend going to sit outside and enjoy the mountain views.
The food is superb and the view and atmosphere makes you feel like you are in an island in the Caribbean (or Cuba).
Very disappointed in the food this time. In the past, it has been very good. Kitchen definitely off this time.
The outside patio is lovely and a great place for a drink and small bites. Not sure I would recommend the dining room after recent experience.
The place is great, and the service was good. However, the main comment I received from my group is that the food was sort of bland, without much taste or "sabor." I grew up in Cuba and know the food, and HC just did not come close to that taste. The chicken was good, but some other dishes are not as good.
We are local and this was our first time to Hemingway’s. We loved everything from the view to the food and drinks. It’s an upscale look with a casual feel and good hospitality. Our waitress, Jackie was fabulous!!
Be on the safe side and get reservations, and request the patio.
Loved the atmosphere
Our waitress was great! The food was fabulous. We had beef empanadas, Cuban sandwich, and Cuban baby back ribs. Every bite was so good! We also had Cuban breakfast the next morning which was also good. But, they give you so much food that we couldn't eat it all. Once again, we had great service. Love their outdoor seating on the roof!
I would recommend going for a cocktail and an appetizer.
The food is delicious, but it always takes way too long to eat dinner.
The service is friendly, but slow. I've gone twice for dinner and both times it took about 3 hours start to finish for dinner. Both times were during the week, once with a party of 4, the second time with a party of five. I'm not sure where the bottleneck is, I only know that we waited quite a while for our entrees and then for our bill.
Great view, great cocktails and food. Probably wouldn't return for dinner.
Got a reservation for our anniversary. Got a drink menu but was unacknowledged for almost half an hour. Finally got our drink and appetizer order in but took another 15 minutes to come out. At this point, we had never received a food menu. We got a waitresses attention to order food, they told us we could not order the paella. We looked over the menu quickly but we're then told the kitchen has closed. Very dissatisfied with the quality of service, especially with a reservation and on a special day.
I’d recommend it for the view and cocktails. The food was good but the service was subpar.
