Helen in The Heights
Tuesday-Thursday 11 AM-10 PM
Friday and Saturday 11 AM-11 PM
Sunday 11 AM-9 PM
We thought the food was very good as was the service. It was very early so it was mostly empty and quiet but by the time we left it was getting busier - but still relatively quiet which was nice. The appetizers were excellent and very creative. We tried several. Olives and the various hummus types were great. Recommend them over the entree which was very good too, but pretty normal. The size of the entree was very big as was the half salad. We split the Greek salad and the Gyro platter. Quality was very good and it’s only money so go for it ;). In the Heights, maybe that’s normal but it’s just a little pricey. Honestly, it’s the only downside so overall we loved it and will go back.
Service was incredibly slow as it was an early dinner and there were only 2 other tables occupied. The appetizers we had were outstanding: dip trio and grilled octopus. Our entree pulls the review down. The gyro plate had horribly dry meat and clearly was from a pattied version, not a true kebab. Also, the grilled pita was hard on one side and horribly dry as well.
First time. Excellent brunch. Try the Greek style eggs Benedict
Great food and staff! The meatballs and cauliflower was my favorite.
Great service from the somm and our server. Really good food, especially the pork belly special.
We were there for our sons birthday. Couldn’t have asked for a better lunch! Great cocktails and food.
We thank everyone here for a great time.
First time at Helen’s in The Heights. Overall a very good experience. The food was unique and very tasteful. Service was attentive and prompt without interfering with our conversation. Had reservations for 4 for 7pm on a Saturday and the place was already full. They were very polite and opened a second section for us. It was also full within minutes. On the negative side, it was very noisy in the back and the wine list offered only greek wine. We did not care very much for it and found it overpriced. But overall an enjoyable experience and there are several interesting dishes we want to try so we’ll definitely go back.
Overall a tasty meal. Server was knowledgeable and staff were all very friendly and welcoming. Beef kebabs were excellent. Shrimp appetizer had a nice tomato and cheese sauce but portion seemed a bit small for the price. Definitely will go back to explore menu further.
Great service - great food - great night out!
Waitress did a phenomenal job!
I went for my birthday as I love Greek food and know I can get specific foods and a bottle of wine from my favorite winery in Santorini. The venue is very nice and the servers were friendly. I was disappointed because they ran out of two dishes that we had asked for. They gave me an extra birthday dessert to make up for it, but I was really craving Moussaka and was sad to hear it wasn't available. I will definitely go back because the food and wine were delicious, I will try to get there earlier before the Moussaka runs out!
We absolutely loved the shrimp and grits!!! Deliciousness! . My girlfriend and I had the delicious milk punch drink. The vegetables were perfectly roasted. The beef on the skewer-souvlaki was medium rare and well-seasoned. We are gonna come back for dinner!
This was our first time dining here. After hearing rave reviews about Helen’s in the Village we were looking forward to a delicious dinner. The food was just ok. Nothing exceptional...we had octopus appetizer and flaming cheese dish, no flames though, the cheeses was just cheese. Moussaka was way too mushy...the other 4 people dining with us were unimpressed. Disappointed.
Great food, interesting wines, decent prices.
Excellent experience at Helen in the Heights. Flavors were spot on, wine rec was perfect, and the service was a good balance of casual sophistication and quiet efficiency. Timing was idyllic.
This is a great place to go and enjoy with a group. We enjoyed splitting our apps and entrees to share amongst the group and share more and this was fun to do. Their Lamb Gyro is especially tasty and tender. They have a nice wine list and a good sommelier to help. They have some good Greek wine that is worth a try and not just stick with the latest from Cali. It isn't fast food Greek in price or quality and is worth the trip to The Heights if you live outside.
The food and service was very good. However feel the restaurant was overpriced for the type of food served. It was a special occasion so I went with it but would not go back AND would only recommend with the caveat regarding the cost.
This was our Mother's day meal (we don't do Brunches) and we had a marvelous time. The food was creatively done, well presented and prepared and the servers were very professional. I was surprised how empty it was on Mother's Day but we had an amazing time!
Child’s pasta was $16. Bill was $58 but they charged my credit card $77. Not a good experience for Mother’s Day. This is my second horrible experience here. I would eat at many of the other great Heights restaurants.
Fantastic Mother's Day brunch!!! Cozy, romantic, great food, wonderful Greek wine selection, easy parking, awesome service and nice touches for Mother's Day.
Great evening. Greg was great to work with for wine selections. Our waiter was a overly busy with many tables, so we had to work to catch him when running by. Food and ambience was great. We will be back.
My parents and I had brunch at Helen in the Heights and will definitely be back! Between us, we ordered the daily omelette, the semolina pancakes, and the grilled vegetable plate - all were excellent. We were celebrating my father's birthday so we were also served a baklava sundae. The homemade ice cream was spot on and the baklava was pleasantly not over-honeyed and had a surprising touch of cinnamon. I also had a great americano (Boomtown coffee). The service was attentive and helpful with wine selection. It was a bit loud, even on the patio where we sat, from the mix of street noise, music, and other guests but that was really the only slightly negative part of our brunch. It's an excellent value for the quality of the food. I've also been to Helen Greek Food and Wine in Rice Village but I had an even better experience in the Heights.
We celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary at Helens in the Heights and they made it a very special occasion. The personal attention and service was amazing and the food was outstanding! We will definitely come back!
I love this place for a Sunday Brunch spot, the atmosphere was nice and the cocktail menu was really good.
Great food in a romantic setting. Outdoor patio nice but opted to sit inside at the bar to watch sports. Great date night spot!
Excellent at usual. Branzino was amazing.
Great food and great service
Too many kids for the price.
Food service opens at 4pm. We arrive at about 4:45 and around 5:15 or so a meeting of all servers was called. We were told that they normally have the meeting by that time by one person and told by another person that they were not used to customers that early. We had just ordered appetizers when the server went to the meeting, and by the time the meeting was over, our apps had been cooked eaten and we remained sitting there waiting for the waiter to come back and take our meal order. The meeting took much longer than the 5-10 minutes we were told it would take. We did not feel this was the fault of the waiter, but regardless, this was really not the way you expect to be treated as a customer. The food here is not cheap by any standard and, you really sort of expect that the wait staff meeting would not take priority over a customer. Most of the food was good, but I just can't get past the fact that no one seems to care that we had not ordered our meal before that meeting.
After hearing so many phenomenal reviews - we decided to try it for brunch. It was eerily quiet with only one other couple during our entire time there. The service was wonderful and we were greeted cheerfully. The food was ok -- nothing too special. I kept thinking I was missing something because I have heard such great reviews. We were underwhelmed. It's not that it was bad -- it was perfectly adequate. Average.
Great food but a pretty expensive option for pretty classic Greek and Mediterranean. It is delicious and for sure tastes like Greece but heights pricing. Order the Octopus it is AMAZING.
Wonderful staff and service. Interesting and scrumptious offering. We had a wonderful time. Whoever is tending bar is dead set on building a reputation of perfection. It is so nice to go to a place of worth. No detail left untouched. Thank you.
Vegetarian options, helpful waiter, great food, no pressure to leave, so you get to take your time.
We went for a family get together and the sharing concept worked great. Food was fresh and delicious. The service was excellent.
The entire experience start to finish was excellent. The hostess was so friendly, service was excellent and appreciated the manager stopping by. Not every restaurant takes the time. I wasn’t crazy about the anchovy dip on the trio of dips but everything else was delish. I had the cauliflower steak as an entree and it was enormous and such a creative dish. My husband had the gyro special and it was enough for two meals. We will definitely be bs k!
Pleasantly surprised! This restaurant is so special. Really terrific service, special off the menu olives, perfect pita bread. The spanokipita was excellent and also try the award winning meatballs. For a main course, the beef souvlaki was wonderful for two to share, with plenty to take home. Dessert was a traditional breakfast pastries with a custard filling. Light and not sweet. Overall, just excellent. Ambience was good, a nice crowd around the bar.
Enjoyed new interpretations of traditional Greek ingredients and dishes. Greek wines were amazing! Hangar steak kabob and whole fish stuffed with herbs was great combo! Also enjoyed saganaki and octopus in favs bean purée. We sat on upstairs patio balcony. Nice views of the treetops in the heights! Attentive service and lively atmosphere
Everything was great. Food was delicious. Service was fast and polite. The GM (I believe he was GM) was very knowledgable about wine and was able to guide us to a very delicious bottle. My husband has a restricted diet and Helen's was able to accommodate nicely.
Overall good atmosphere, good service from our waiter, and decent food. One thing that seemed petty (and obviously was memorable) was that we ordered an app with three dips and pita bread triangles. There wasn’t much bread (6 triangles to dip) for four people and the three dips, and when we asked for more bread we were told it would be an extra charge. It was awkward but obviously we wanted more bread so we could enjoy the appetizer, so of course we said yes. I’d rather the price upfront include an adequate amount of bread for the appetizer or be told the appetizer wasn’t enough for four people (the dips were plenty) with the additional bread option then. Ironically, one of our mains had pita bread and bread refills for that were endless. Nit-picky but just seemed odd for this type of restaurant.
The staff is knowledgeable about the Greek food and wine they serve, and friendly. The food is creative in construct and presentation. This is one of our favorite restaurants for any occasion.
I am leaving Houston - relocating -- and I wanted to say goodbye to the city at my favorite restaurant. I was not disappointed. Everything was PERFECT and i cannot thank the management and staff more for treating me so well. I will truly miss the kind of Houston Strong love of the city, of which the staff at Helen's embodies in their service and quality. The food and wine -- as ever -- was unmatched. There's literally no place better to eat in Houston. My heart is full and I am so grateful. I hope Houstonians continue to enjoy the city's dining gem.
