   Omigosh. We were there for about 35 minutes before anyone took our order, even though the restaurant was pretty empty. After we had been there for an hour, I'm not exaggerating, a waiter came back to ask us to reconfirm our orders, which he had written on a really tiny slip of paper and had entirely wrong, including food in one of the orders to which he had been expressly told the diner was highly allergic. We didn't get our food -- remember we're talking about deli food, so not that complicated-- for more than an hour and a half. It was not practical for us to go elsewhere, because my father is mobility-impaired as a result of a stroke. Experience was so awful it was like it was a practical joke, like we were on candid camera.

   The food at Heckman's was actually quite good, but the service was very strange. Only some of our party got our food, and it came out kind of higglety pigglety. The one person who didn't get her food had ordered soup, certainly not something that one would normally have to wait for. It felt like no one had trained the servers at all.

   I have moved from Chicago, where they have the best of the best corned beef. This is a good alternative and the pastrami was great too!

   We have yet to eat something on the menu that we dislike. Just like home Jewish cooking. Delicious!!!

   With the closing of Krupin's Deli, DC/Bethesda has been missing a good deli. Heckman's Deli is food just like your grandmother used to cook right down to the pickles on the table. The family owned/run is an added bonus!

   Great food. I think we were just unlucky, but the day we went for lunch was a very cold day, and the deli's heating system had broken down. Had to wear my heavy winter coat throughout lunch. There was a portable heater on the counter, so we chose the closest table to the counter. The service was very friendly and efficient. Not crowded that day--only two or three other tables were occupied.

   We had eaten at Heckman's before, but we had been hesitant to return because of poor service. The food has always been good, but the total disorganization and poor management is evident in all aspects of the deli. We made a reservation for dinner on Christmas night. We arrived and were seated on time. But the place was a zoo, with frenetic and harried waitstaff. After we were seated, a table nearby with menus still open, decided to leave. When one of our group went to use the rest room, both rest rooms were out of order. After that, we decided to leave rather than suffering through another bad service event. We won't be back. Too bad!

   We walked out after waiting 45 minutes without being served appetizer or main meal. The kitchen clearly was understaffed on Christmas Day. The owner, who was on site, should have closed the restaurant or declined to fulfill the takeout orders that she claimed were overwhelming.

    We made reservations for 11:30pm on a Friday night, but we weren't concerned since the Deli listed its hours until 12 midnight. But lo and behold, when we arrived not a light was on or a diner inside. The sign on the opened door said "Closes at 10p. Their hours on Opentable are still not correct. We probably won't try again.
