Heartland Brewery Chophouse Ratings and Reviews
The was food very good and the beer was good. The do have a Barbera on the wine list which gives them extra points in my book. Our reservation was for 4:30 and they were packed but we got seated right on time. I suppose for New York they are reasonably priced. I had an eleven ounce strip steak and fries (steak frites on the menu) for $22 and the beer is $8.50 per pint which is about the same as downtown Baltimore.
Heartland Brewery & Chophpuse has become a holiday tradition. Our large group of friends always gathers for lunch after seeing the sights in NYC before taking in a Broadway matinee. We love everything about Heartland: the friendly service, the craft beer (especially the seasonal Red-Nosed Ale), the great food and the party atmosphere. Make sure to reserve a table because this place fills up quickly!
I wish I could give a rave review but I can't. The restaurant opened at 11:30 and that's when we arrived for our reservation. We placed drinks and our orders fairly quickly and our waiter was very attentive. In addition to our meals coming out probably 35 minutes after ordering, there were three problems with our eight dishes. One of the seven meals delivered at that time came out completely wrong and was correctly fairly quickly. One incorrect salad was never corrected, but the recipient enjoyed the salad that she was served. The third problem was that the eight dish, the sliders, came out probably 25 minutes after the other dishes! Meanwhile, we saw LOTS of slider orders moving past our table to other tables. I feel that once our order was found to be lacking, that slider order should have been the next one out! We politely complained to several levels of server, manager, etc., and ultimately got the price of our drinks taken off of the bill. What we would have preferred however, was a more timely correction of the slider order. We were on our way to a 2:00 production and just did not receive the attention your restaurant normal gives to its patrons.
Burger ordered was raw and cold, the waitress apologised and took it away to cook for longer. It was very busy and noisy but service was good . I was not charged for my meal, but would not return as there are many more cheap restaurants where the food is much better.
Despite making a reservation for 10 people, they weren’t ready for us when we arrived on time. Waited 35 minutes once seated before we finally had to pull the hostess over to take our drinks and kids’ meal orders. We were told our waitress was just finishing up with another table, and would be right over. Waited another 15 minutes for the drinks and then went to hostess table again to request service. Waitress finally came over with drinks and took our order for food. At that point it was clear to them we were annoyed and the rest of the meal was good and she was more attentive to us. Unfortunately at that point we’d spent the better part of an hour being ignored so it was hard to overlook that. In general we are fans of their various locations, so I’ll assume this was a one time thing. But still, surprisingly bad service.
Beer is average brewpub quality: toned down to appeal to the masses, especially in a setting such as NYC. Took 10 minutes after being seated before we got our order taken. Food did come very quickly, though, so that was a plus. The BBQ sauce with the burger was awful. Tasted like McDonalds BBQ sauce; very sweet and tons of sugar. French fries were bland. The onion ring apps were very tasty, however.
We ate at Heartland the night before Thanksgiving with a party of 9. We had a reservation and were seated quickly. The food was pretty good; the service was TERRIBLE. Our server, Caroline, was clearly not in the mood to be waiting on anyone that night and unfortunately put a damper on the evening. She was grumpy from the minute she said hello and had an attitude every time she came to our table; and was clearly annoyed anytime we asked for another drink or ketchup for fries. We are a pretty easy going group, and can find fun in any situation, so we would have let this all go except for the automatic 20% gratuity added to our bill. While we should have realized they would do this for a party of 9, we never would have tipped her 20% given how horrible she was as a waitress. Lesson learned... when experiencing really bad service, talk to the manager before the bill comes.
Was here for a pre theatre dinner with three other people all coming from different directions, one of whom was on crutches The staff was super helpful in seating me first and helping the rest of my party find me, even thought the place was really crowded. The waiter was also very knowledgeable, fast attentive and friendly. The food was good. And for a brewery, the wine was good too.
It was busy but we had reservations and were seated immediately. Apparently they were a bit short on wait staff, so a manager took our drink & good
food order. A second person brought our drinks a third person brought our appetizers, a fourth brought the food and variety of staff bussed the table. Had an issue with one of our meals (they didn't include the fries with a burger order) and didn't know who to ask. The food was good, but pricey - even for mid town The main advantage they have is a convenient location for a Broadway show.
We ended up not getting a full dinner because we weren't super hungry, so we couldn't use our free beer coupons since we didn't get an entree. That was fine except the beer wasn't that cold for 8.50 a draft. The appetizers we got were very bland and nothing special for $15 a piece. The server was not very attentive and we waited awhile at the table to even be acknowledged at first. I wouldn't come back or recommend because of all the good places nearby with excellent food.
We chose this restaurant for its convenience to the theatre on a Friday night at 6 pm. Sat in a booth not too noisy until 6:30 and beyond. Comfortable. Very good service. I had the Kobe sliders and they were yummy. I though my salad was as included but it was $10 ( and large). That misunderstanding was because of the mounting noise level I’m afraid. The serving sizes are generous. All in all very happy to know about this theatre district choice.
A great place to eat. Good location, and easy to find as a tourist. The service on being seated was excellent. It only failed when it came to paying the bill- a tad slow. The food was good. Huge portions - we could have easily shared the meatloaf. The beer here is very good. Good recommendations on beer too. Well worth a visit.
Decided to book this restaurant for a pre theatre meal and we weren't disappointed. Great atmosphere fab ale and wine lovely bar staff. There were eight of us eating. We weren't rushed to sit down. The food was delicious it was a shame that we had to leave promptly to go to the show. Would really recommend this bar and restaurant
This was a great spot to grab a really good meal before a show. We made reservations for 5:15pm not knowing how busy they would be, but it wasn't that busy when we got there. As we ate, the restaurant started to fill up. Our server, Ben, was very knowledgeable and attentive. Our meals were fantastic. My wife order the NY strip (cooked medium) and I ordered the salmon. Both came out perfectly! My wife had me try her steak. It was the best tasting strip we have had because we have found that most NY strips come out rather chewy and tough. This was very tender; no sauce needed! We got our bill in plenty of time and didn't need to rush off to the theatre. It was an all around great experience.
Our waitress was disinterested to say the least. My cocktail didn't come until about 5 minutes after I got my entree. She got an attitude when my friend asked if cheese could be added to her fries. We wanted to share a dessert and asked the waitress about the dessert menu. She told us it was on the table already, walked away and didn't come back until I asked for the check. As for the food, my friend said her burger and fries was good. I ordered a Waldorf chicken sale which was about 95% lettuce and 5% chicken and dried fruits. I'm not a fan of paying $18 for lettuce.
