We arrived to find it was Hearth's last night in operation. Boo. We love this chef and the staff. Had become a real go-to for us. I hope what replaces it has a similar foodie chef and quality food. We had told so many friends about Hearth. Good luck to the staff in their next work homes.
The food was good, but since they just opened it felt like they were very disorganized. I read the review and was expecting farm to table type menu and it seemed like they were going for complicated 21C or Harvest type recipes. I like lighter entrees. I'll try it again, great location and patio. The renovation is good, love the light colors but miss the black and white floor.
I absolutely would recommend Hearth! The chef is very creative and serve very fresh food. It is a dream for a foodie, without the high prices. The menu had so much to choose from. And Tony the waiter was top notch.
The Hearth is a homey, laid back and friendly place with good, considerate service and excellent food. We have been there on a number of occasions and the experience has been consistently excellent.
A wonderful restaurant experience all around! The atmosphere is quiet and cozy, the service is outstanding, the wine list is excellent, and the food is deliciously creative.
We chose Hearth as a quiet setting for a visit, and in that respect we got what we paid for. Our server was attentive in taking our orders but fell down in not returning to the table after desserts were served. Two of us were pleased with our choices, but I was very disappointed in mine and waited for our server to return so that I could tell him so. I did not eat my dessert, and it was swept away by the busser before I could say anything. I believe the server would have removed the charge for the dessert if he had heard my complaint--but that did not happen. I chose not to make an issue of it and paid the bill.
My salmon was well prepared, but for $24 I might have expected a larger quantity of sides.
The food was very good and the wine list had some good choices by the glass. Some good craft cocktails too. Service was attentive and ambiance was relaxed and good for conversation.
The atmosphere was incredible the architecture was stunning the staff is really tentative and friendly the food was just marvelous highly recommended!! 😊
I would definitely recommend Hearth. It is a lovely quiet restaurant and the food was superb. We all had drinks, appetizers and desert so I think the price was very fair. The only minor glitch was that there was an extremely long wait between the appetizers and the main course being served.
My halibut was very nicely prepared, although the serving was a little small. The Earl Gray ice cream was good and interesting, but the saltiness was weird as I had no warning.
Still the best place to dine in Evanston, shame it will only be open through the end of the month.
Great service, good food, nice surroundings
Excellent food. Really interesting selection. Lovely atmosphere.
My husband and I celebrated our anniversary and Hearth exceeded every expectation for a perfect dining experience. Delicious food, candlelit ambience, and attentive service without being intrusive made for a very special celebration. Thank you, Hearth! We will be back.
We started with a drink outside, and ended up staying outside for dinner. The cold melon soup with coconut cream was spicy and delicious, as was the rest of our food. This is my favorite restaurant in Evanston by a considerable margin.
The chefs menu is interesting and innovative. The squash blossoms are delicious.Cant wait to go back again
Food was good but not great. Service was slow, even though it wasn’t very crowded. With so many other restaurants in the area I would try somewhere else before going back.
Hearth continues to deliver with creative, delicious food and one of the best bartenders in the Chicago area.
Food was great service was bad.
I recommend Hearth to so many people. We love coming here for a great meal, changing menu, and wonderful ambiance and service. We sat on the front porch for the first time and it was a great date night for us! Corn fritters (elote fritters) were excellent as was the tomato tart for starters. I loved the halibut and hubs liked the salmon. Wine selections by our server were perfect. We just keeping coming back to Hearth over and over!
Each appetizer, entree, and dessert was beautifully plated and tasted as good as it looked--especially the elote corn fritters and the wagyu tri tips. Our server, Christopher, was present at all the right moments and was knowledgeable and personable. We were able to clearly hear our friends in conversation, which made the evening doubly enjoyable.
The menu offered diverse entrees with interesting, adventurous flavor combinations. Attentive service. Reasonable prices for the quality. We hadn’t been there in at least a few years. Enjoyed the dinner so much we won’t wait that long to return.
Probably the best restaurant in Evanston. A relatively small menu, but everything is creative and well prepared. It has a much appreciated quiet ambience, and we were lucky to be able to sit outside on the sheltered terrace.
3rd time eating here and one of my favorite restaurants anywhere.
Been a couple years since I've been back. Menu is vastly different. It was interesting, cocktails were great. Waiter had absolutely NO personality, stiff and wooden, made us very uncomfortable. Pretty expensive for a Wednesday night out with a friend. . . . . Probably won't return anytime soon.
Always an excellent meal with good wine and gracious service. A total gem!
Always amazing food and service!
Sit out on the front porch if you can, it’s the nicest outdoor spot in Evanston.
We have dined at the Hearth before and have always enjoyed the high quality food and the relaxed atmosphere. A fine restaurant that we highly recommend.
We started with a drink on the Homestead’s delightful porch on a cool summer evening. Dinner was in the handsome, cozy dining room. Slow baked halibut and braised rabbit with airy gnocchi followed tasty appetizers. A half bottle of Duckhorn Sauvignon Blanc was just right. Service was friendly and professional.
This was our first visit to Hearth and it will not be our last. Food and service were excellent. I hope other individuals try this restaurant because its an excellent place for food and service. It is NOT A CHAIN restaurant.
Dinner at Hearth is always a treat. Last night we enjoyed a lovely Talking Farm (Skokie) Salad and the lamb. Two vegetarians at the table found plenty of delicious and creative items to walk away thoroughly sated. Thank you for featuring locale produce and for featuring a solid planet-based menu.
We were seated next to a loud foursome and asked to be relocated however the greeter wouldn’t relocate us even though the restaurant was near empty and there were many tables for two available.
The biggest disappointment were the entrees. The tri-tip was chewy and minimal and the slow roasted halibut was salty and mushy. Take the salt away from the chef.
The service, other than the maitre’de, was outstanding.
The ambiance was non existent. We were really looking forward to eating here. Probably won’t be back.
My husband and I tried this place for a date night, and absolutely loved it! The food was incredible, atmosphere was relaxing and service was excellent! We will definitely be returning!
Comfortable and relax. Service attentive. Food ok. Duck breast and Lamb very good but halibut was mushy and tasteless. The restaurant is convenient for the hotel guests but there are plenty of restaurants around that are as good or better.
Nice spot in Evanston. It's located inside a little inn and is a teeny bit off of the beaten path which makes it cozy. We started with the Mediterranean spread and it was delicious. All entrees were delicious and the cocktails did not disappoint. This is a nice spot for dinner with your NU student for some comfort food that will leave all feeling happy and satiated!
The chef here is outstanding and the service is unbeatable. My go to when I’m in Evanston!
My only criticism about the place was their hesitancy to seat my husband and I when we arrived before our daughters and their spouses. The table was set and waiting for us. There were other open tables in the room. They were just following some rule set by the restaurant rather than using good judgment. We were just a few minutes early for our reserved time.
Usually out bi-monthly ladies dinner is so special that food service and ambiance are secondary to our time to catch up and spend time together. But when a server acts unhappy and at times outright rude while serving....well I gotta say....unfortunately, it made for a so-so experience.
Everything was grand for our celebratory meal at Hearth! Service was superb; menu was broad enough to satisfy everyone's tastes; food was prepared and presented beautifully and everything was delicious; desserts were creative and just right for the meals; cocktails were excellent; and did I mention, the service was superb. Added to all that the space was full and yet it was easy to carry on quiet conversations. Five stars across the board!
