Hearth Ratings and Reviews
We came here for Valentine's Day Prix Fixe. Usually, that's a challenging time to dine, and restaurants aren't at their best. But Hearth was amazing! Every course was a delight--taste, and appearance. The wine pairings went well with the food, and were at a good value. Service was outstanding--not just fast and friendly, but also very well informed about the food and wine, so very much a learning experience. Very pleasant ambiance...we were in a room with a view of a snow-covered yard. Wow. We will have to go again. (And again!) Our new "best in Evanston" restaurant.
We had the $65 prix fixe four course dinner on Valentine's Day.
Every course was delicious and interesting. This chef clearly knows how to combine flavors, textures and ingredients in a way that is both delicious and harmonious. Great food, service and ambience without costing a fortune. Highly recommended !
We loved everything from apps to dessert. Especially the orange sorbet with mint. The only (minor but it was noticed by all four of us)negative was it was a bit too warm in the dining room. We were furthest from the fire. It was Saturday February 10th. We will be back!
The cozy low-lit dining room with fireplace was perfect on a cold, snowy evening. All dishes were delicious and well presented. The staff was attentive and friendly. First time here - will definitely be back and I've already recommended Hearth to friends and coworkers.
Our waiter was great. The food was delicious. I would definitely recommend the cocktails and the restaurant week menu was awesome. I had the trout and it was so good my wife ordered a piece on the side of her meal. You can definitely tell the chef had a flavor profile/theme in mind, but everything was great!
Not sure how this restaurant has gotten so many good reviews. Terrible experience. The food was completely bland. The portion sizes were way too small. The service was extremely slow, and the waiter acted like he didn't even want to be there. The best thing eaten at this restaurant was the free bread. This place is super pretentious. I will never go back. Garbage!
I came here with my partner during Restaurant Week. We chose Hearth because of all the Evanston restaurants participating in Restaurant Week, Hearth had the most interesting and varied menu offerings. The atmosphere is very warm and festive and elegant yet the service is down to earth and friendly without being stuffy. Loved each of the 3 courses we sampled and the service was top notch
Surprisingly good. Everything we ordered (from the Restaurant Week menu) looked and tasted great. Every course was fresh and interesting. I'm not a foodie, yet found myself talking about the food much of the night. It was our first visit - would definitely go back again.
We had gone a few weeks back and enjoyed it so much that we decided to celebrate a birthday with 6 other friends. Nobody was disappointed, they handled our party of 8 without any problem. Our server was terrific and the food was outstanding. We started in the bar and met the GM who was very warm and friendly, we were then seated right on time and from there everything was perfect. Thanks for a wonderful evening.
Everything was very good but get the polenta appetizer, really great. We had a delightful delicious dinner. Definitely for foodies who can appreciate complex but not overly spiced, flavors expertly prepared and presented. Give yourself plenty of time to savor every bite.
Incredibly poor, inattentive service, very disappointing food quality -- fatty small lamb chop--??? We had to ask to get water & the basics..no one checked in with us about the meal; the server never thanked us for coming...no one noted that we left.
Way overpriced for the meal quality and service experience.
Dinner at the Hearth was a birthday celebration. Our server was EXCELLENT; at our request he offered valuable advice re menu items and wines, balanced attentiveness with discretion, and at the end of the meal surprised us with a scrumptious birthday confection. Cannot say enough in support of this restaurant, that is such a valuable community asset.
It all starts when you walk in, if the staff isn't friendly right from the beginning then it sets the tone for the rest of the meal. In the case of Hearth, the staff is great; they are welcoming and friendly. Our server, Robb, was the best. Very helpful, relaxed and friendly. He made several suggestions (at our request!) which turned out to be right on, the food and wine was great. We will be back, thank you.
We went for New Year's Eve, and had the tasting menu with the matching wines. The food was exceptionally good (ceviche of mussels, ravioli with duck, wonderful rack of lamb, a chocolate mousse concoction); the wines, all Italian, were very good, and were poured generously. Chef adapted the dessert to needs of one diner who could not have chocolate, got excellent carrot cake instead. Service was efficient and friendly. We had a quiet, comfortable table in a corner. A memorable evening.
It's a cozy restaurant located in a historic looking hotel, close to downtown Evanston. They have a warm and inviting bar lounge area where you can hang while you wait for your table. The food was very good, small portions but still good. The staff are very friendly and attentative. It's got a small cozy inside of a cabin type of feel inside with small tables, candlelit ambiance and fireplaces. It's a good date spot or a nice special dinner date. The crowd is mostly older locals however, not many under 30ish couples, but still enjoyed the visit.
