Hearsay Restaurant Lounge and Garden
Hearsay’s modern take on American cuisine and cocktails combines with the distinct atmosphere and music of the 1930s to create a space that is warm, inviting, and unlike any other in Southern Oregon. Situated just below the beloved Oregon Cabaret Theatre and a three-minute walk from the world-renowned Oregon Shakespeare Festival, Hearsay also aims to become a key part of Ashland’s theatre culture, giving guests an opportunity to see some of their favorite performers in an entirely different setting.
When you step through Hearsay’s doors, you’ll be treated to an experience you won’t soon forget. And as our name implies, we hope you’ll tell your friends about us, too.
Hearsay is always a pleasure—fine food and drink, well-prepared, and an ambiance evocative of a speakeasy. Our steak was tasty, the potatoes were exceptional, and the salad went well beyond a simple green salad. And the lobster bisque, with chunks of lobster—I could have gorged myself on that alone!
We celebrated our 6th anniversary and Valentine’s Day at Hearsay and we had an incredible time. They greeted us with complimentary prosecco for anniversary and followed up with attentive service. The food was outstanding I had the Scallop pasta (cooked perfectly) and my fiancée had the prim rib. Thank you for a fabulous evening! -Lauren & Ross
Fantastic Valentines’s Day dinner! The Art Deco decor with roses at every table conjured a Great Gatsby mood, while live piano music set the tone for a lush dining experience. Service was pitch perfect, attentive while not intrusive. And the food? 5 solid stars! We shared the special Surf & Turf for two. Exactly the right portions, and the lamb and shrimp were perfect, as were the delightfully seasoned potatoes, steamed carrots and asparagus. We finished with one of the best desserts we’ve ever had (I’m now searching the internet for a recipe) — an exquisite dark chocolate Creme Brûlée! We’re already planning to return, and next time we’re bringing family and friends.
We dined before a theatre performance
At the Oregon Cabaret - it is so convenient !!
Creative cocktails on the special menu were good! The Velvet Apricot with gin was very satisfying and good flavors. We have flat iron steak & special chicken Brest - both nicely prepared and presented. Wait staff was very polite & took care of us.
We had a very nice date. The locals dinner special is a great value. The service was attentive. The wine was good.
Excellent meal in a wonderful amosphere with good company.
They add on 20% to groups over 6 and don’t Offer to split tabs.
Seafood chowder really rich and lemon bars tasted stale.
Good food, great service, and an enjoyable atmosphere.
We were 8 women wanting smallish dinners. Hearsay menu was perfect. Julie was so accommodating. A lovely place for a group of women to meet for dinner.
Excellent service, the food was outstanding, ambiance was very inviting, and we loved the decor.
I was extremely disappointed with the service we received since our meal was $60 per person. We had to ask for water, salt&pepper and cheese for our pasta. The food was very good , but the shoddy service ruined our overall experience. I will not go back.
Our server was very attentive as was all the staff. They worked well together, ensuring we were never waiting for service. Food was delicious. Speciality cocktails looked really interesting. A nice touch is that there is ample room between tables, it doesn’t feel crowded.
I have been several times. The French Onion soup was sweeter than I prefer. The Sprouts were quite good. The rest of the meal was good.
Hearsay is hands down the best food in the Rogue Valley. As Southern OR natives, we visit a few times a year and take advantage of the local restaurant scene. While we have a collection of favorite restaurants, some classic (JVille Inn), some new-ish (Onyx, Immortal Spirits), Hearsay is quickly becoming our go-to place for a wonderful meal. Service is friendly and professional; food excellent; ambience fun.
This was our second Christmas Eve supper with Hearsay and we hope to make/keep this as our tradition. The food was wonderful and the atmosphere lovely!
Excellent dining experience.
The food was great! We all had something different and every one of us loved our meal. We will come back soon!
We had a lovely time as usual. However, I wish the food were a little more adventurous. I'd like this to be a more special dining experience than it is, given the beautiful setting and great location.
We are regulars at Hearsay, particularly for happy hour, and this was our 48th anniversary. This information was indicated when I made the reservation. I thought my salad, which was supposed to feature smoked goat cheese, was quite lackluster and I could not taste the goat cheese - must have been very little. The scallops which were listed as "hazelnut crusted" had nothing on the exterior and tasted poached (very little flavor and no crust). The lemon chutney still had seeds and without much lighting I could not find them and pull them out of the dish so chewed on several - bitter, of course. On the positive side my husband loved his steelhead and wedge salad. No mention was made of our anniversary, not even a "happy anniversary to you". It didn't feel special at all.
Great place with a wonderful art deco vibe. Food was delicious and we could hear one another as we
conversed which is a welcome change from other echoing restaurants.
Wonderful setting with piano music, terrific service and scrumptious food. We all enjoyed everything. Definitely recommend
The food was amazing. The service was friendly and witty. The ambience was quiet and jazzy. We'll be back!
Hearsay is now our go to place for celebrations and festive dinners out. Great food, really wonderful service and a lovely atmosphere. It is clear that a talented chef is in the kitchen. Glad we gave Hearsay a try; we'll be back!
The restaurant is beautiful. The food is a huge disappointment. The service was marginal. I ordered the halibut, and it was dry. Their margarita is undrinkable. They had a large party and gave that as an excuse for slow service (we had a reservation). This was for our wedding anniversary. Just go to Alchemy.
Live piano player added to an ambiance of a day gone by. Food was well prepared and service was top notch. Close to Oregon Shakespeare Theaters.
Food was excellent. We are from California and my wife read the reviews on trip advisor. Was a great birthday dinner.
The only issue we had with the service was that they ran out of the "soup of the day"-- and we were there not long after the restaurant started serving dinner. The waitress' attempt at informing us that the soup was no longer available was just a bit awkward. She could have handled it with much more grace/finesse.
Otherwise, it was a lovely meal.
Excellent food, atmosphere and Team...a fine dining experience...highly recommend ❤️
Great place. Food & service top notch. We shall return.
We love Hearsay! From the craft cocktails to the small plates we can enjoy and share, it's a great experience. The food is wonderful, and we enjoy the seasonal menu. We keep going back for a pre-theatre meal each time we're in Ashland. Highly recommended.
The food was as delicious as it was well presented. The service was amazing and the ambiance was great. Only complaint was that behind us was a thoroughfare to the tables beside/above us and it we had to move our chairs in frequently so they could get by... not enough room. Other than that an absolutely amazing dining experience!
Four of us all over 70 had dinner on the first Friday in October 2019. We had three different meals. The beef tenderloin, steelhead and jappy hour hamburger were all excellent.
We loved the dinner, our server and the ambiance!
With the cool decor and the pianist, it was almost like a brief return trip to old days of The Carlyle in New York.
Prompt and personal service. Delicious food. A lovely outdoor courtyard. A comfortable interior with colorful artworks and live piano music. Convenient to theaters and shops. We had a very enjoyable dinner.
Love this restaurant. Food and service is always exceptional.
We visit Hearsay each time we are in Ashland and it never disappoints. Great service, exceptional food, and excellent cocktails. When the weather is nice, the garden is a wonderful place to eat dinner. We also love having happy hour in the bar. Try the happy hour steak frites or burger. Great value and delicious food.
Great fresh food and perfect service. Loved the piano player.
Beautiful room and ambiance. Great craft cocktails. Delicious food and attentive staff! Next time we'll check out the garden seating.
A tremendous surprise! Picked the Hearsay at random and it far exceeded our expectations.
