Hearsay Restaurant Lounge and Garden
Hearsay’s modern take on American cuisine and cocktails combines with the distinct atmosphere and music of the 1930s to create a space that is warm, inviting, and unlike any other in Southern Oregon. Situated just below the beloved Oregon Cabaret Theatre and a three-minute walk from the world-renowned Oregon Shakespeare Festival, Hearsay also aims to become a key part of Ashland’s theatre culture, giving guests an opportunity to see some of their favorite performers in an entirely different setting.
When you step through Hearsay’s doors, you’ll be treated to an experience you won’t soon forget. And as our name implies, we hope you’ll tell your friends about us, too.
We are regulars at Hearsay, particularly for happy hour, and this was our 48th anniversary. This information was indicated when I made the reservation. I thought my salad, which was supposed to feature smoked goat cheese, was quite lackluster and I could not taste the goat cheese - must have been very little. The scallops which were listed as "hazelnut crusted" had nothing on the exterior and tasted poached (very little flavor and no crust). The lemon chutney still had seeds and without much lighting I could not find them and pull them out of the dish so chewed on several - bitter, of course. On the positive side my husband loved his steelhead and wedge salad. No mention was made of our anniversary, not even a "happy anniversary to you". It didn't feel special at all.
Great place with a wonderful art deco vibe. Food was delicious and we could hear one another as we
conversed which is a welcome change from other echoing restaurants.
Wonderful setting with piano music, terrific service and scrumptious food. We all enjoyed everything. Definitely recommend
The food was amazing. The service was friendly and witty. The ambience was quiet and jazzy. We'll be back!
Hearsay is now our go to place for celebrations and festive dinners out. Great food, really wonderful service and a lovely atmosphere. It is clear that a talented chef is in the kitchen. Glad we gave Hearsay a try; we'll be back!
The restaurant is beautiful. The food is a huge disappointment. The service was marginal. I ordered the halibut, and it was dry. Their margarita is undrinkable. They had a large party and gave that as an excuse for slow service (we had a reservation). This was for our wedding anniversary. Just go to Alchemy.
Live piano player added to an ambiance of a day gone by. Food was well prepared and service was top notch. Close to Oregon Shakespeare Theaters.
Food was excellent. We are from California and my wife read the reviews on trip advisor. Was a great birthday dinner.
The only issue we had with the service was that they ran out of the "soup of the day"-- and we were there not long after the restaurant started serving dinner. The waitress' attempt at informing us that the soup was no longer available was just a bit awkward. She could have handled it with much more grace/finesse.
Otherwise, it was a lovely meal.
Excellent food, atmosphere and Team...a fine dining experience...highly recommend ❤️
Great place. Food & service top notch. We shall return.
We love Hearsay! From the craft cocktails to the small plates we can enjoy and share, it's a great experience. The food is wonderful, and we enjoy the seasonal menu. We keep going back for a pre-theatre meal each time we're in Ashland. Highly recommended.
The food was as delicious as it was well presented. The service was amazing and the ambiance was great. Only complaint was that behind us was a thoroughfare to the tables beside/above us and it we had to move our chairs in frequently so they could get by... not enough room. Other than that an absolutely amazing dining experience!
Four of us all over 70 had dinner on the first Friday in October 2019. We had three different meals. The beef tenderloin, steelhead and jappy hour hamburger were all excellent.
We loved the dinner, our server and the ambiance!
With the cool decor and the pianist, it was almost like a brief return trip to old days of The Carlyle in New York.
Prompt and personal service. Delicious food. A lovely outdoor courtyard. A comfortable interior with colorful artworks and live piano music. Convenient to theaters and shops. We had a very enjoyable dinner.
Love this restaurant. Food and service is always exceptional.
We visit Hearsay each time we are in Ashland and it never disappoints. Great service, exceptional food, and excellent cocktails. When the weather is nice, the garden is a wonderful place to eat dinner. We also love having happy hour in the bar. Try the happy hour steak frites or burger. Great value and delicious food.
Great fresh food and perfect service. Loved the piano player.
Beautiful room and ambiance. Great craft cocktails. Delicious food and attentive staff! Next time we'll check out the garden seating.
A tremendous surprise! Picked the Hearsay at random and it far exceeded our expectations.
Hamburger and Steelhead were very tasty main dishes. We also enjoyed the asparagus appetizer. Our server, Shawn was professional, friendly and efficient. Overall, a very enjoyable meal. Fruit tart for desert was superb!
Hooray for Hearsay! It's a beautiful restaurant inside and out--one that features an efficient and friendly staff, great music (which is kindly set at a volume way lower than 11) and tasty food.
30 Anniversary Dinner & 3 days enjoying Ashland. 2nd Year in a row enjoying Ashland. Green salad not fresh & drowning in dressing on my Wedge salad. Scallops were great. No pace in serving dishes. Not crowded, waiters service not friendly however not rude. Not welcoming. Did enjoy Hairspray & 2 other plays! Cowhorn (Fabulous Winery & Red Lily. Shopping the many wonderful shops with great service! Great tour of Lithia Park at 10 AM on Sunday!!
Fabulous food, great service in a unique setting. Definitely recommend
It was a perfect evening and the back patio is so pleasant. For the prices this is definitely a special occasion restaurant, but it was some of the best food I’ve had in a long time, and great cocktails too. Felt comfortable hanging out and the cadence of service was ideal.
Went to Hearsay prior to attending the he Ashland Cabaret. Menu options were perfect, appetizers were great. We ate of the appetizer menu and had a full meal. We often like to do that. Great wine list. Piano player kept the vibe perfect, stir able to converse. Wonderful interior design. Walk 50 feet and you at at the door of the theatre.
As good as the innkeeper at Iris Inn promised us it would be!
Lovely evening to have dinner on the patio. The corn chowder was amazing!
Our second visit, early-ish on a Saturday: friendly and gracious service, beautiful dining room, lovely garden (tables for dining outdoors too), excellent food, live piano music. Definitely will visit again when in Ashland.
We enjoyed sitting outside since inside was really loud. Our meals were very good, however we did need to request more sauce for the steak since they left it off. Our sever was very good and took great care of us.
Our second visit to Hearsay's and it's definitely on our list of best places to eat in Ashland now. Incredible food, excellent service and great location.
The food quality was not what it used to be. I'd appreciate a call back from Julie, so I can inform her.

Great service, food and atmosphere. Come around 7 or 8 pm and the crowd thins out to go to the plays at OSF.
Great atmosphere, service and food. A regular eating spot on our visits to Ashland for the Oregon Cabaret theater.
Four of us had dinner at Hearsay during our recent trip to Ashland. Overall, this was an enjoyable dinner. The restaurant has a great ambience and the service was excellent. The drinks were excellent and the food was good, especially the beef tenderloin. There are a lot of great restaurants in Ashland, many not as expensive as Hearsay. However, we would go there again.
Nice atmosphere (but noisy by my standards in main dining room). Very Good friendly service. Can be hard to park...but nearby pay garage is cheap.
It's my go-to fine dining experience whenever I visit Ash land. Food and service are both impeccable.
Food and service are consistently very good to excellent. This year our dining experience was marred by excessive noise that reverberated in the otherwise beautiful room.
