Hearsay on The Strand - Galveston
Totally bummed over this place. The ambiance is cool for sure. Waitstaff is good. Food is awful. I write for several magazines in their food column. I can usually find a couple of things to write about that bring a positive spin but today I was stumped. Not only did we both throw all of our food away, except for some fries-which are impossible to screw up, the waiter didn’t even offer to get us something different when it was so obvious how we felt about the dishes. We are at a local 4star Italian restaurant last night for a quick and early dinner and spent less on much more exceptional cuisine. Sorry but this is a HARD PASS!
Attaching pics of the food we tossed & the receipt showing our minimal brunch items. We would have stayed for more drinks had it been better. We literally PAID & left and went down the street for a much better brunch at Olympia Grill.
We celebrated my daughters 22nd birthday at Hearsay. The service was wonderful and the food just as good. I would highly recommend this restaurant when visiting Galveston.
The manager was super nice to my family and I and made sure my table was set nice for my birthday. Our server was
This was the most terrible value for the money kind of place. I ordered a $29 meal which was delivered in form of 4 small slivers of tuna, 3 spears of asparagus and fries. My husband had ordered the truffle fries but received regular fries. Outrageously overpriced.
First rate experience from beginning to end. Awesome food, service (Megan was helpful & friendly). Would definitely return!
Staff was outstanding. Food was very, very good. My only comment is perhaps they could add a tad more in serving size? Or offer up suggestions for an added side?
I would have added the rice and beans, but by the time my meal arrived, it was a little too late to add the side. Otherwise a very pleasant evening!
Beer flight with local beer was fantastic, great suggestion by my waiter.
Very nice decor, good service, our menu selections were hit and miss. Drinks were excellent. Two of our party ordered the Porterhouse steaks, which turned out to be super thin cuts of meat, long boned, and very fatty, hardly 16 ounces of meat, or worth the $26.00. The ladies at our table were pleased with their orders of short ribs, and vegetarian plate. To their credit, the manager offered to change out the steaks for something else.
Fantastic lunch celebrating the 1st weekend of Mardi Gras! Great food, service, and ambience. We will be back!
Server was very accommodating, kind, and knowledgeable! Great food as well!
Excellent service, food, and music!
We wanted to try this beautiful place and added it to our list. We were NOT disappointed! The food was amazing. We had the stuffed chicken and it was to die for. I had cleaned my plate before my husband had eaten half of his.
Our server Matt was friendly and on top of everything. Our bus server Bryan (sp?) was very friendly and he would be fantastic as a server!
We will definitely be back!
Worst lamb I’ve ever had. The preparation seemed to be on point; the meat was perfectly cooked medium rare and came with an excellent fig sauce, yet it was like eating a tasteless rubber boot. I love this cut; I prepare it myself at home and I order it at restaurants. Trader Joe’s sells better quality (by far) than what I had at this restaurant. I feel like $42 is on the high end for for lamb lollipops, even when they are utterly perfect. It upset me to pay that much for such poor quality. I won’t be back.
Love this place. Great service and environment. Would recommend to anyone visiting Galveston.
Amazing food. Amazing service. Will most definitely be returning. Thank you for an amazing 15yr Anniversary dinner with my wife.
Surprised my wife to a fantastic dinner for Valentines. The management and staff pulled out all the stops to make the dining experience unforgettable. The food is extremely well prepared with a great presentation. I asked for two dozen red roses to be delivered and when we arrived and my wife was seated at a beautifully set table they brought out the roses and champagne perfectly. Thank you to everyone who assist with making this experience one of a kind.....
I had high hopes for this venue as I had heard from others that it was very good. Maybe my expectations were set higher due to that but I was somewhat disappointed. We had the lamb and short ribs and both were good but left us wondering where the rest of the food was for the price we were paying. The food that we did receive was good and served in a timely manner. Service was not the issue at all. Rick took very good care of us from the very beginning. I would never say not to give this place a try because my opinion and expectations are different from the next person. Galveston has many fantastic restaurants, give this one a try just remember to bring your wallet
Hospitality is on the top of mind at Hearsay. General Manager Reed was especially welcoming and took time to discuss the decor.
Wanted to celebrate during a bachelorette with a nice dinner and drinks, and this was hands down the best spot we came to in Galveston. Our server Larry was 👌 and the food was so good.
First visit after a recommendation from a friend. The food was good but our dishes did not come out hot. They were warm but definitely should have been served hotter. I had the blackened red fish off of the Restaurant Week menu and it was tasty but lean on the blackened seasoning. I noticed many other of the same dish being served around us and they all had much more seasoning, didn't seem to be consistent in the kitchen. Also we had onion rings for an appetizer and they were very greasy. Our server was very friendly and helpful. She made several recommendations off the cocktail menu and they were good. Ambiance was good and they played good music. Overall, it was an ok experience but probably won't rush back.
Best spot in Galveston.
Three of us ordered the same entree but the portions were very different in size
We were excited about going here but were very disappointed. We felt very rushed to eat and leave. We were served our first course and 2 minutes later given our main meal. Immediately after that our dessert came out. Food was just okay and portions very small for the price.
Everything was wonderful! Can’t wait to go back!
Hearsay on The Strand is a unique place perfect for any special occasion. Drinks are made with precise preparation and the food is beyond delicious! Can’t wait to visit again!
Great ambiance, pleasant servers. Good food. Really enjoyed the place.
The food and drinks were fantastic! Great atmosphere and decor too!
Cold grits and overcooked fish and shrimp. Wait staff standing around talking like 9th graders at lunch. Baby sized salad and the two worst desserts I have ever seen. We were the only diners at 5.
We went for lunch on Galveston Restaurant Week. We were pleasantly surprised at quality of food. Very good. Our server was darling. She was knowledgable about the choices and was anxious to please us.
We are already talking about our next visit... it will be soon
Not until they get new wait staff; he could have cared less that we were in the place. That night, the restaurant had one large party ant two other tables besides ours but people where forced to get bar service because all the wait staff had disappeared. After 30 min and still no drinks were told our order had been lost by the bartender. After reordering, It was still another 10 min before we received our first drink.
Every plate was not what was listed on the menus. When ask about the substitutions, he apologized; and indicated they had been doing it all nigh, then made up some BS story about it not being his responsibility Inform dinners of menu changes. In his view, it was the hoisted that should be informing dinners about any substitutions on dishes, not the waiter’s. In conversation with other of that nights guest, every group had the same type issues.
We went for Restaurant Week and were pleased overall. Service was a bit slow but we weren’t in a rush and my friend’s steak was under cooked. Food was tasty and the wait staff was as attentive as she could be. She had tables both upstairs and downstairs. She even told us that they didn’t expect to be that busy on a Tuesday night so they didn’t have enough staff. Manager came by and when we told him about the steak he offered to prepare another one for her to take home. She declined and he comped our round of wine. We’ll be back.
Good, was delicious, a bit disappointed that there was no desert included. Would have made the meal perfect. I really liked the dinner we had on Friday night as it had a great finish to the meal with the bread pudding. However it was advertised to be served with ice cream and there was no ice cream only a bit of whipped cream. Unfortunate as our taste buds were prepared for ice cream. We asked the waiter who said the kitchen had substituted whipped cream thinking no one would notice. So it comes down to say what you do and do what you say. False advertising.
My husband and I had dinner at Hearsay during restaurant week. The menu was nice and food was very good. Unfortunately they were extremely understaffed. Our food took an hour to come out. We were attending a show that night and barely made it in time. We were very disappointed in the experience.
The food was horrible. The lamb was burnt. The service was ok.
Went on Saturday night during Galveston restaurant week and we chose the Angus Ribeye 12oz. with Cajun Shrimp and the Pan Seared Fresh Blackened Texas Redfish, both were awesome, We were seated as soon as we walked in and had a great seat upstairs with a view overlooking the balcony,
First, we were put in the very back room. It was almost like we were forgotten back there. We had to request silver ware. Our meals came out staggered. In fact, 1 person’s meal was comped it came so late..Our waitress was good just not very attentive cuddle had tables to deal with elsewhere.
The restaurant is very nicely done. We were impressed with the redo of that building, but that does not make me want to return for the food. We will try again, since we did them”Restaurant Week” special to see the difference in food & service.
The service was excellent. The food was very tasty. Would recommend.
Everything was nice. Only thing I would say is the risotto was bland and undercooked. Besides that it was nice and I would go back.
Loved this restaurant. Great atmosphere and service.
