Hearsay Gastro Lounge Ratings and Reviews
We were made to sit in front of the restroom when the entire place was empty for over an hour and a half after we arrived. I tried to get a time of around 6.30/7 for the reservation, but opentable was showing that my best latest dinner time available was 5.15 pm. Like I stated before, the place was EMPTY, and I am not exaggerating, at one point around 6.15, there were more than twice as many restaurant staff than people in the place. We did ask for a different table, but we were told ALL of them were "reserved"! Food is strictly OK, for the price they charge, I would not bother with this place. I am curious why this place has such good ratings, probably the other places in Houston are not as good is the only explanation I can come up with.
First and foremost, the food was outstanding and reasonably portioned. Don’t go with a huge appetite without being prepared for a large bill.
With that said, our service was so terrible, I don’t know we would return. Our waters weren’t being refilled and our expensive cocktails seemed to be the last ones attended to for each order. For two of us, we spent 1.5 hrs for a 2 course meal, a bit excessive I’m my opinion. Maybe it was due to the holidays, or maybe the service just needs another look.
Anyways, hope this helps the next group making an educated guess on where to go out for a nice downtown Houston meal
While I still love this place, I was a bit disappointed by our luncheon on Christmas Eve. We had friends in from the UK & this was our only chance to get together & visit. I did not know they were going to have a band during our lunch. While the band was good, it was impossible to hear or visit with one another. Luckily, it was a nice day so the hostess let us change our table to the patio so that helped. The soup of the day was absolutely delicious but my steak salad was sadly lacking. Just a bit of very tough steak that was barely edible. However, the service was good & we love the history behind this place.
First visit was outstanding. Rashad (hope that is correct sp.) was on top of it! My bottomless mimosa never hit the bottom. Food was served promptly and he constantly checked on my table even with a packed house we never felt neglected. Sad I cannot say the same of my second visit. Dexter was the exact opposite and the place was just about empty. I waited 10 minutes before I had to ask the manager for my waiter to order a drink. The guests at my table and I had to continually look for him to order food or more bottomless mimosas. Eventually, we complained and the mgr took care of us until 2pm when bottomless mimosas ended. Then he disappeared and no one ever asked us did we need anything? Did we want our tab? Nothing. This went on for an hour until we finally saw Dexter again and asked for our bill. I am willing to try again just without Dexter's service. Food and ambiance is generally great!
We have been meaning to go for quite some time. So glad we did because it was really good. We tried a couple of things that other diners had recommended (the beer battered asparagus and the poblano soup) and my husband had a steak and I had the cajun pasta (don't remember the exact name of this dish, but it had shrimp and lobster). Everything was really good and we will go back again as there were lots of great things on the menu. My only turn off was the fact that they had chairs stacked by the restrooms and in one of the over-turned chairs, there was actually food in it (onions and onion skins). Not a good impression.
Very Austin-like. Small, trendy and food was delicious. We had lobster tempura -fantastic and smoked salmon app. Entrees were- Ahi tuna - very good and spring roll app that I ordered for main dish. The steak salad was the only thing disappointing- greens were good, but steak tasted like it was left over. We will definitely come back.
Food was ok, thinking it was an off night. Was here about two weeks before on a Thursday had the same meal and it was much better then. Service started off great and quickly went down hill. Our waitress got loaded with several tables and no help. Ordered a second drink that never came. Asked for a dessert menu which never came, eventhough our waitress came back to our table twice after we asked. Overall we wouldn't go out of our way to go back.
Despite a week’s notice of reservation, we were first sat at high-tops, with a 7:30 close-out. The hostess then said that we could move to a table downstairs, with no close-out time. We chose the table downstairs.
While the waitress was wonderful, we were celebrating my boyfriend’s birthday and nothing was said or done on part of the restaurant. I noted in the initial reservation that we were celebrating a birthday.
Overall, the restaurant had good food and ambiance, but the staff gave off a different first impression.
My bestie and I ate there recently Dec. 2017. We had the Tempra Lobster...awesome! It was also Steak Night on Thursday. We have the Delminico steak aged and grilled to perfection along with Truffled fries. It was charred great and melt in your mouth steak and the Truffle fries were rich in tastes! Check out Steak Night!
This place is good for cocktails and that’s about it. The food was chili’s or Applebee’s quality at a mid-high end price. Both steaks ordered came out at the incorrect temp. I ordered the NY, it was very dry, over cooked and lacked flavor. A good server would have come back to the table to make sure everything was prepared to our liking and perhaps then he would have noticed that some of the food was not being eaten. Overall amazing ambiance, pot service, very poor food quality.
The place you have is very cool inside and we liked the setting. But the food we had the stuffed red fish and salmon were not very good at all. Flavors were lacking and the only thing you could taste was the salt which seemed to be piled on.
For our anniversary it was a big disappointment.
The only reason I am not giving this a 5 star review was the noise level. There was a band for the brunch and we literally had to yell at each other to hear our conversations. For was great and the portions were generous.
2nd time back in two weeks. Tried different dishes than from the previous visit & was not disappointed at all. The ratings given here would also apply to the first visit.
Only concern was that after we finished the main course & didn’t have desert there, it took a little long to get someone to acknowledge us & bring the check. This is minor & I will be back.
