Hearsay Gastro Lounge Ratings and Reviews
Everything was wonderful. The food is good, however, the service is even better.. Make a reservation for guaranteed seating. Get there early and have a drink or two at the bar before your meal. The bartenders are amazing mixologist. Vincent (our server) was remarkable. He assisted with menu and drink selections that suited our taste perfectly. He without a doubt made our evening better. Would definitely recommend for a casual night out. Will definitely return again.
We were looking for a downtown pre-theater casual dinner spot open on Sundays, and Hearsay fit the bill! The food and service were up to par, and we enjoyed the great craft cocktail offerings. We were told their chef had departed, but hopefully they will carry on with a fun & eclectic menu from sandwiches and salads to full course entrees.
So overall, I would probably try this place again because the food was so delicious! The service was average. It was my birthday celebration which my husband indicated when making reservations but nothing extra was done. Also, the linen table cloth had food on it when we sat down. The drinks however, were unique and worth the price.
Our first visit to Hearsay Gastro Lounge and it was fantastic. Will definitely go back. Convenient location. Valet parking. Nice bar scene. I'm normally an alcohol bourbon or scotch purist, but tried the Wall Street Insider cocktail and was fantastic. Understand the bartender invented it. Spicy shrimp and calamari appetizer was great. Short ribs and lamb lollipop were both great entrees. Nice veggies accompanied each and the tastes were amazing. Plate presentation eye appealing. Wine is reasonably priced. Daisy was a great server and floor managers were very attentive (Candice and a male manager). Both had bread pudding for dessert and was very good. Kitchen was a little slow getting food out, but we never mind a casual relaxing dinner and not getting pushed to turn the table. The place was packed so definitely need a reservation. Historical building had a lot of charm. Second oldest building in Houston I think. I bet we go back and take friends with us.
I took my sister, mother, and mother in law here before seeing Kinky Boots at the theater. AWESOME cocktails and appetizers! Beautiful setting. Loved it! Would've enjoyed more convenient valet with the drizzly weather (we were there at 4:30 - prior to their valet being available) but valet across the street was fine.
We were made to sit in front of the restroom when the entire place was empty for over an hour and a half after we arrived. I tried to get a time of around 6.30/7 for the reservation, but opentable was showing that my best latest dinner time available was 5.15 pm. Like I stated before, the place was EMPTY, and I am not exaggerating, at one point around 6.15, there were more than twice as many restaurant staff than people in the place. We did ask for a different table, but we were told ALL of them were "reserved"! Food is strictly OK, for the price they charge, I would not bother with this place. I am curious why this place has such good ratings, probably the other places in Houston are not as good is the only explanation I can come up with.
First and foremost, the food was outstanding and reasonably portioned. Don’t go with a huge appetite without being prepared for a large bill.
With that said, our service was so terrible, I don’t know we would return. Our waters weren’t being refilled and our expensive cocktails seemed to be the last ones attended to for each order. For two of us, we spent 1.5 hrs for a 2 course meal, a bit excessive I’m my opinion. Maybe it was due to the holidays, or maybe the service just needs another look.
Anyways, hope this helps the next group making an educated guess on where to go out for a nice downtown Houston meal
