Hearsay Gastro Lounge Ratings and Reviews
We have yet to have a bad time at this restaurant. The atmosphere is wonderful, with the high ceilings and original brick walls. The added decor does a great job of breaking everything up a bit and to add some vibrancy. The beautiful chandelier greets you as you arrive, and so does the smell of incredible food. The booths are cozy and intimate, and you may feel at first you are a bit close to others but it's incredible how fast that feeling goes away as you have drinks and dinner. The service is always wonderful - waiters have a warm, welcoming vibe constantly and always make a diner feel like they are the only guest. The upstairs seating is just as fantastic with a neat few out the windows and down at the other patrons below. Great and diverse menu - food and drink. Honestly I am always happy with the wine we pick and the food we order. Recently had the salmon; cooked perfectly with an incredible, complimentary sauce. For each dish I've had, there is always an enormous, but not overwhelming, amount of flavor that makes your taste-buds quite pleased. Everyone always seems quite at ease and a spirit of camaraderie permeates the air. A wonderful find in downtown, with a great balance of intimacy and openness to the restaurant around you.
Had an early reservation to make a 7:30 show. Server was very accommodating with our request to keep it speedy. Really nice cocktail list (mine had bacon on it!). Ahi tuna was delicious. My salmon dish was good, but very salty (but I still ate it because I like my food saltier than most) and gave this feedback to the server and without prompting, she discounted half my entrée price. I very much appreciated this!
Food was great, service bad. We had our apps for about 5 minutes, someone came to clear and told us to hurry up our entrees were coming and he needed to make room. After entrees got cleared our waiter dropped the check and ran away. Had to flag him down to ask for dessert menus, guess he thought we didn’t need any.
This was my second time at Hearsay. I enjoyed the first time, sitting upstairs at the bar. There were no reservations available so my friend and I had our dinner up there. The drinks were excellent and the food was superb. I decided to come back with three other friends, but it didn't start well. The waitress told us that they were out of the scotch that we ordered so I switched to a martini with blue cheese olives. She immediately said they didn't have that, so I asked her to bring me some blue cheese and some olives and I would make them myself. Josh, the manager, came over, apologized and made sure my friend had a good pour with his replacement scotch and I had my blue cheese olives. We were all happy after that. The food, of course, was as good as the first time. We will be back.
We went to Hearsay Gastro Lounge prior to seeing a show, and it was definitely a fun date spot. However, it was loud (mostly due to the Astros game but the building doesn't help the noise level) so it wouldn't be a great "get to know each other date" option. The cocktails were great, although I do wish they had more beer & wine options. The lobster tempura starter was delicious and the lamb chops were to die for. I definitely was disappointed with my meal - the New York loin strip. The temp wasn't even and ranged from a perfect mid rare to medium well (the entire left half of the steak was medium well). Also the truffle fries sounded promising and were a complete let down! I would completely take those off the menu because their roasted fingerling potatoes in the mustard sauce were mind blowing.
We showed up for our reservation and nobody greeted us. After 5 minutes of our entire party awkwardly standing at the front door, I walked to the bartender and asked if we could be seated. She brushed me off and said someone would seat us eventually. We finally got our seat and the waitress was grumpy. It seemed like the whole staff was grumpy. Our food came out cold but the waitress never asked how it was so I ate it anyway. The mananger walked by our table about 5 times but never asked us how we were doing.
From the time we sat down our waiter was very rude and short with us. It was our first time here, celebrating my friends birthday. We noticed he treated and tended to his other table with a better attitude than with us. Everything we asked him about the menu he really did not want to elaborate on. All his answers were one worded and very short. We wanted to ask him questions but he would storm off very quickly. Our glasses of water were empty for over 5 minutes, and he seen that they were empty. The manager had to tell him that our glasses were empty. He didn't even offer us the dessert menu, I had to ask. He did ask very rudely when our last guest was showing up, and I asked well are you all about to close? He responds we go to jus apps after 10. Okay no problem. Our last guest shows up at 9:40....he doesn't give her a glass of water or nothing, we have to ask another waiter to get him so that she could order before 10. He still took his sweet time, coming ten minutes later, it was 9:55 by now. I was over the whole experience all because of his poor service. I really hope it wasn't because the color of our skin because he treated his other table so nicely. I was looking forward to having a great time, but he ruined it. Overall the food was amazing.
Food was fantastic. Waiter was meh. Part of your dining experience is the waitstaff and he wad very slow, could care less we were celebrating a special occasion and acted like we were annoying him when we had questions. It was our first visit and I'd like to give them another chance because the food was great and the ambiance was fun.
My fiancé and I had a date night. The food was really good. The ambiance is extremely inviting. We had a very nice upstairs view and the environment overall was great. The only thing is that our table was pretty small so we had to maneuver to make the space work.
In summary the Hearsay experience was pretty sweet!
Although it initially took her a while to come to our table, our waitress, Samantha, was polite and attentive. It was our first time there and we loved the atmosphere and the ambiance, as well as the brunch. However, what made our visit such a horrible experience was that Huey, the manager, greeted everyone on the lower level and checked on them except us. When we brought it to his attention, he gave us a politically correct apology and walked over to the bar. Customer service is everything to me, and the fact that the manager did not understand the importance if that ruined the experience for us. It will probably be a long time before we rerurn.
The atmosphere is so much fun. I love the band that was playing for Sunday brunch. A bit hard to talk over at times but my husband and I really enjoyed the music.
Food wise I wasn't really happy. My wedge salad was warm. Then I had the shrimp and grits and the shrimp was metallic tasting and the sauce was too much. My husband liked his main course however they brought out the wrong appetizer for him and a different person than our waiter brought it out and no one came back until the main course came so he didn't get to ask for the correct appetizer.
Our waiter was very nice but just didn't visit enough once we got our food. He forgot our drinks and the issue with the appetizer left our experience a little wanting.
When I was leaving I saw the chicken and waffles which looked amazing so I will come back for the band, beautiful building and to try those!
We went for HRW 2017 and the food was very disappointing. Even a simple dish like devil's egg was made poorly. The taste was very bland and the presentation was not appetizing at all. The entree was just okay. I have heard so many great things about this place, but was not impressed. I'm hoping it was just because it's HRW.
