Hazel has an American menu with Japanese and Korean twists, and it’s one of the most exciting places to eat in DC right now.
Very strange combinations that didn’t work. Mousse, which was overly processed so bad texture but tasted ok served with zucchini bread. Didn’t work on so many dimensions.
Kimchi eggs were good.
Only coffee available was an $11 French press with maybe 8 cup capacity. Like the food combos maybe sounded good someplace but not good in reality.
Loved how unique all the brunch dishes were. Service was IMPECCABLE. They continuously made sure we had water and whatever else we needed and the host checked in on us too. This was wonderful! I especially recommend the wontons and the sunchokes!
Food was interestingly amazing !! Nice ambience. Totally loved Hazel. Service was impeccable
Had been wanting to try Hazel for a while and it was worth the visit. The menu was small and everything sounded great so we asked the waiter to recommended some food for us. It was just myself and 1 other friend and we went with the roasted sunchokes, gnocchi bokki and sloppy fried chicken. Three items was not too much for us. If we had gotten something lighter than the fried chicken we may have needed a 4th dish. We'll be back when the weather is nicer to enjoy the beautiful outdoor eating space.
Would definitely eat here again when I am in town. The meals were filling and the service was excellent!
We got the Ducked Experience for the table and, because we couldn’t choose, we asked the chef to surprise us with four other small plates. We were not disappointed or hungry after!
For spring break I took my daughter to DC and, since we both love to try new foods, we picked a new restaurant each night. Hazel was our choice for our last night in DC and it was delicious. Neither of us had tried duck before so we ordered the Ducked Up and it was way more than two people could finish, though we did want to because it tasted wonderful. The service was attentive and perfect, the wine was delicious, and the atmosphere was so cozy.
Excellent service -- truly superb! Delightful and interesting takes on food. Overall amazing experience.
Outstanding food; best enjoyed by sharing several medium plates although I’m sure the large duck entree is great as well. Recommend the gnocchi with kimchi - have had nothing like it.
The food was as fantastic as the last time we dined at Hazel and the service was among the best. Our waiter was terrific and enthusiastically endorsed our starter selection of tartare with tator tots, his favorite, and it struck the right chord of sweet, savory, spicy and crunchy (he suggested we break them up and mix them). We ordered the duck sampler which was delicious all around. The duck legs were especially great—falling off the bone. One minor quibble was the texture of the kimchi fried rice, which was a bit sogged, but still good. Keep up the great work and we will return soon to try the other items on the menu
Everything was wonderful - especially the fried chicken - yum!
Great experience. Wish there were a few more healthy options on the menu, but everything we had was delicious.
Great food and atmosphere, but the service was terrible.
As everything was great, i prefer to believe our server was in a bad day - very rude and totally not fitting to the nice food and ambient
The food was great and the vibe was cool. But what took the experience to the next level was the exceptional service provided by the host John. I told him I was celebrating my wife’s promotion. Before she arrived, John handed me a bouquet of flowers for me to give to her. His thoughtful service is much appreciated. I’ll be coming back soon for sure!
Badass spot! Russel and Adam are rockstars! Ducked up is the best deal in town! #firepandaforeva
Loved the unique menu with small plates to share. Will return.
Menu VERY different from what's on website. Extremely limited.
We went two weeks ago during Restaurant Week and such a wonderful experience, we had to go back. We tried new things (except the Zucchini Bread, which we had to try again) this time and, once again Rob Rubba didn't disappoint. Everything was great, but I thought the roasted sunchokes really stood out this time. The table next to us ordered the Ducked Up! menu option and it looked fantastic--definitely on the list for next visit. Can't wait!
Fantastic share-plate experience with incredibly interesting fusion cuisine. Seasonal menus make it hard to recommend anything particular but it's all worth a try.
Service and vibe were excellent. Antonio our waiter was wonderful. The food very good. The only ding is try and avoid eating in the room leading into the kitchen. We were seated in the first table and every time the entrance door opened we were greeted with a burst of cold air and a bang when the door closed. And this room while quieter does not provide the vibe present in the larger dining room.
For Valentine’s Day - $65 a head for 4 shared dishes - not worth it. $130 for a mediocre meal and not enough food. I came here last month and had a fabulous experience. Found it ridiculous that they charged extra for another piece of bread.
Go with the "All Ducked Up" option. You will absolutely not regret it.
First time and really enjoyed the food.
Service was spotty, when trying to order a bottle of wine after been seated for 15 minutes I was abruptly and rudely interrupted by the server to lectured about how we needed to order food.
Great experience! I loved having dim sum for brunch! Awesome job with the bloody mary's too!
Great food and experience. Highly recommend for anyone that enjoys a good adventure with old favorites.
The food is other-worldly. If you’re lucky enough to have Tony as your server, he will take you on a magical culinary experience you will never forget!! Obsessed with this restaurant!!! P.S. Order everything on the menu— you won’t be sorry!!
Food was great, waiter was far more concerned with cleaning up / presumably leaving once his shift was over than he was with making sure we had everything we needed. Too bad, especially at that price point you expect better service but food is excellent
We are vegan and our server was so patient, helpful, and flexible with helping us figure out what we could eat. The food was absolutely delicious and the decor and ambience were amazing! Can’t wait to go back
Awesome meal. Came here during restaurant week so we got (4) menu items and dessert for $35 a person. Food was delicious and well portioned and the service was amazing. Friendly and outgoing, making everyone in their section feel welcome.
Recommended as a nice date spot with reasonable pricing, great food and even better service.
Also had a nice looking outdoor section with fire pits for pre/post dinner
Fantastic experience at Hazel! Have been previously (also great), but latest was during DC Restaurant Week. The staff went above and beyond--which I have found is unusual for RW. Food was tremendous--definitely fit for my foodie spouse. Can not recommend this place more highly. Wish we were a little closer, as we have been looking for a "neighborhood" go-to since Tallula closed a few years ago--Hazel would definitely be it!
The food was inventive and high quality but the small plate format makes it exorbitantly expensive. Also, the Asian touch in the fusion dishes may be too pronounced for some. Decor was congenial but loud music disturbed the ambiance.
Food was very good-interesting flavors and tastes, but not for everyone.
2 suggestions: diet coke, artificial sweeteners for coffee!
The service was very good-helpful with suggestions.
We went with friends who are willing to try new things-and we all enjoyed our dinner.
Nice restaurant with good and different dishes. Stylish and good atmosphere. I recommend!
Wow. Really liked our first meal at Hazel and look forward to returning. Excellent service and because we ate very early (5:30-7) on a Saturday, it was quiet. Loved the steak tartare and the special, John Dory. The rock shrimp and gnocchi were fine, but I would try something else the next time, which I hope is soon!
Too much sugar in savory dishes
Really enjoyed my first experience at Hazel. Donnie, our server, was very acquainted with the menu and gave us great recommendations. The food was original, inventive, thought provoking and absolutely delicious. Particularly enjoyed the eel, the gnocchi and the steak tartare. Great authentic winter cocktails and wine list. We skipped dessert so I couldn’t comment, but hope to return for it soon!
Creative and complex flavors in almost every dish. Best sunchokes I’ve ever had.
It’s a beautiful place and makes a nice effort, but I️ found the menu, food, portions, and prices all very pretentious. It’s trying to be trendy, but does better leaving you slightly hungry and poorer.
Great service and menu was delicious! We tried the beef stew and rock shrimp! The chocolate peanut butter cake was a decadent dessert.
