Excellent service and the food and cocktails were amazing. The duck was divine. I had dinner reservations booked 20 days in advance and decided to attend dinner amidst COVID-19 concerns. I appreciated that HAZEL management and staff made active/visible measures to ensure the safety and health of their staff, as well as customers (ie: our server visibly applied hand sanitizer multiple times, tables set apart). Similarly, we made visible efforts to ensure we were practicing good hygiene. Wonderful meal.
Hazel has the best food in all DC! Always super fresh, prepared perfectly, innovative, and flavorful!
Always interesting flavors.
Great brunch! Awesome Mediterranean/modern American mashup. Given my affinity for traditional omelets and eggs Benedict, I was a little nervous when I didn’t recognize half the words on the menu, but server was super friendly and helpful and the food tasted absolutely amazing. Perfectly cooked, great flavor. The coffee was how I like my county’s leaders- STRONG! Great place
Great atmosphere and service. Interesting and unique dishes and great cocktails.
Fantastic little gem! Our meal was fantastic - fresh and innovative. Also, the service was impeccable. Adam, our server, was extremely knowledgeable about the menu. My husband is allergic to spicy food and Adam was very attentive to his needs, even asking the chef to accommodate when possible. Highly recommend this restaurant.
Everything was great but at the very last moment one waiter asked as to leave the table because he wanted to use it. Interestingly there were other tables available next to our table. A little disappointing that they have young inexperienced people without very much supervision. I found it very rude after spending so much money to be kicked out like that for no reason just because they wanted the table.
Sam was absolutely wonderful at providing top-notch service and the food was delicious! Everything we had was very good and worth the higher than average pricing.
Good food but a less than ideal experience. We had to wait 30 mins for our table despite having a reservation, and when we were seated it seemed like we were placed into a makeshift table between two other tables so that our elbows were touching others on both sides. We could barely hear one another.
Hard to remember the food because the service was abysmal. They forgot to take our order so we sat there for 30 minutes, with no waitress is sight. Then once we gave our order, the food took over one hour to arrive. However, once the food arrived, they missed half of our order and seemed incredulous that we were still waiting on three more dishes. So we had to wait another 30 minutes for them to bring us the food they forgot to put in. The service was absolutely atrocious.
Party of two waited 45 minutes to be seated...what’s the point of a reservation at that point? Drinks were forgotten multiple times. It’s a shame because the food was really good. Won’t be coming back anytime soon but would try again in a year or so
We arrived at the appointed time; our table wasn’t ready for about 30 minutes. The management took care of us and made the wait bearable. We were asked to sit by the bar, presented with sparkling wine and appetizers, and elegantly comped them. When our table was ready our transfer was done in such a way that we felt “transported” to our table. It was that smooth.
Thank you! We will certainly come back!!
Love the food . We are aficionados of Turkish food and these innovative approaches to those dishes is wonderful. Highly recommend to others and wil return. Restaurant week was a nice incentive to make a visit, but pretty compelling without that special offer.l
Went to Hazel for restaurant week. Instead of the typical 3 ish entree options found on a R.W menu, Hazel had about 5-6 which was a nice change of pace but also made choosing dishes difficult! The dips we got were delicious, as were the drinks. The entree portions were a bit small but still tasty. Our servers were friendly and when one accidentally spilled my friend's drink, the drink was immediately replaced although there was not much left. I would recommend and would like to return for brunch.
The meal , several Turkish inspired tapas plates, was utterly unique. More than that, every plate we ordered was delicious . Serious thought and flavor went into every dish. Highly recommend.
Food was fantastic. We had the gnocchi, crispy kale and swordfish. All were amazing. Service was excellent. The only downside was a wobbly that was corrected once we mentioned it to the staff. I would absolutely go again and again.
I brought my brother from out of town for a Christmas Eve meal and we both loved it!
Everything was fabulous! DO THE TASTING MENU! It's the best value, the portions are PERFECT, and I can't wait to go back and do it again.
The food was good, but took too long to come out. When the bread dips-which are supposed to be a central part of the experience-did come out, we only got one piece of bread for the two of us. I asked for a second and was told they were coming out because they had to be baked, but they didn't come out until 20 minutes later, with the main course.
That being said, the whole experience was definitely subpar because we had to sit on the patio in the freezing cold. The heaters were barely enough, and while we were 5 minutes late past the reservation grace period, I had called ahead of time to explain we were stuck in unexpected traffic. It would have been nice for the restaurant to allow us some leeway to sit inside in the warmth since it was an anniversary dinner. The host did graciously offer us some Turkish wine to help us warm up, but we don't drink. That gesture was nice though.
We had the Turkish breakfast bundle during brunch and all the items were spectacular. Loved the hand pressed fresh orange juice. Service was impeccable and the ambiance was nice.
The table wasn’t ready on time, the service was slow and the food was nothing special.
Went to dinner before a show at the Lincoln—great meal!
Everything was excellent—food, service and drinks. Highly recommend this spot for a twist on the traditional brunch.
Not even close to same restaurant w/new menu.
We arrived right on time for our reservation but were told the restaurant was significantly overbooked and we could sit outside if we wanted. Given the temperature (although did have heaters) it was quite chilly. We waited outside for over an hour before a table was open for us. Overall the food was delicious, but the amount of food for the price was surprising. Between 4 of us we spent over $200 on dinner (not including the drinks in the cold) and left somewhat hungry. So - while yummy - the price for value was low - but we'd go back but with different expectations - snacks not dinner.
Everything was amazing. Just got back and had to do a review. The service was amazing in that multiple people stopped by to check on us, not just our main server, Kavon, who was also perfect. And apparently, all the servers share tips so there is incentive for everyone to take care of everyone. It was the perfect amount of attentiveness.
Everything we ordered was at the same time full of flavor, but not overbearing with any one ingredient. We got the tahini for our bread and it was great. The brussel sprouts with the egg was fresh and delicious (not cooked to death like brussels at many spots). The crispy rice with the duck confit was amazing both in texture and understated flavor. The short ribs were absolutely scrumptious. Melted in my mouth, and again the flavor is on point - not overkilled with spices, but perfectly prepared to allow the flavor of the actual food to come through with absolute appropriateness.
The ambiance and the drinks were on point. Great place for intimate conversation, and an overall relaxing environment. Looking forward to going back in the spring to enjoy their large outdoor seating area, which looks equally inviting.
Service was friendly but somewhat aloof. We were seated at a table right next to an open kitchen, so there was tons of traffic from wait staff and distracting noise coming from the kitchen. I understand they are trying to utilize what would otherwise be wasted space, but why would you ever put a waiter staging area right next to people dining? Most of the food was good. You could tell it was made from fresh ingredients, but it was not all that creative. Only two or three items on the limited menu were eye popping. Overall, it is over priced for food and a disappointed atmosphere in an otherwise trendy neighborhood.
Fabulous experience through and through. Excellent value for money and a superb service team combined with creative food make for a special memory.
The patio was fantastic!
Great food!! Unusual and delicious selection. Great waiter—very knowledgeable and helpful. Six of us in town for business really enjoyed it and highly recommend Hazel.
What a stellar brunch! The food is incredibly creative with many Korean- and Asian-inspired flavors: think scrambled eggs with kimchi, topped with a garlic aioli and bonito flakes... or a bibimbap/donburi rice bowl with smoked hamachi and pickled accouterments. SO GOOD. Service is outstanding with servers always there when you need them to be. And the ambiance of enjoying a leisurely brunch on the outdoor patio is unparalleled. Highly recommended!!!
While Hazel creates an inviting atmosphere with fun and creative sounding dishes, all of the flavors of the meal were off. My sister and I shared 4 items and none of them were particularly tasty. I rarely dislike food, but there was one asparagus dish that I could not take more than one bite of. Chef seems to be confused about how to harmonize flavors. I will not be going back to Hazel.
Super! Great food and drinks.
The place has great ambience! We sat outside, which was delightful. However, our waiter was neither warm nor welcoming and had an odd affect until the end when he was giving us our bill. The food was okay. We were advised by the waiter to get way more food than we needed; we were glad to not have listened fully. The place is cute, but it was disappointing on the whole. I do not intend to return, unfortunately.
Fantastic, perfect course execution and timing.
Compliments to the MOD for the welcome to DC toast
The food was very good and creative. Steak Tartar was wonderful! We sat at the bar, as the restaurant area nor the patio was very inviting. I was disappointed with the vibe of the place. I feel the atmosphere of the restaurant does not match the price point of items. I
This place is awesome! The food is absolutely amazing! The decor is wonderful! I really want to go back again sometime. I was in town for vacation, so glad I got the chance to experience this fabulousness!!!!
Two of us came to Hazel to celebrate a graduation and sat outside. The service was very kind and personable, and the server gave a good wine recommendation.
Pea shoot salad: salty! but really good, just needed a lighter hand
Crab salad: is the bomb digity. Sweet crab meat paired with crunchy radish and acid from the pickled strawberry. This was our favorite
Potatoes: also, SO GOOD! the familiarity of potatoes and kale with ranch, but better.
Falafel: so good. The fennel jam was perfect and the yogurt sauce is interesting
Beets and Shrimp: the shrimp were cooked perfectly, but the peanut mole was a litttttle heavy in my opinion
Miso Blondie with pineapple: It's dessert. so it's always good. That said, the blondie was over baked and cold. Totally fine that theyre baked earlier in the day but it either needs to be tender at room temp or warmed up! I think they're baked in muffin tins, but chef you should bake them in a pan and cut into squares!!
Overall, it was so good. It's both tweezer food and unpretentious. It's familiar but surprising. And the food is really good, I just have a very high bar set.
Ducked up was good. Food was good. Service was friendly when they came around. Overall decent spot, you should try, especially if you live in the neighborhood. Pretty convenient and good food.
Celebrated a wedding anniversary here. Service was everything...so much fun, attentive care. Only surpassed by the Nirvana-like experience which was the food. You already know it's a cool ambience. Just do it.
