Never had a bad meal at Hazel. Wouldn’t say we dine there regularly but when we’re in Melbourne it’s one of our go to restaurants. Two observations (not criticisms btw) from our most recent visit. First, there didn’t seem to be enough wait staff on the floor. This could be Covid related but we found ourselves having to flag down our waiter a few times and always felt bad because he was serving so many tables. Second thought was in relation to the wine list. There was a good selection, but would have liked to see more diversity. It’s very Victorian centric. All for it, but my thought would be to work with your wine brokers to build it out a little wider.

As we were a group of 6 we had to go with a set menu, which sometimes can be a little disappointing, but we were far from disappointed. All the food was inventive and full of flavour. We had a couple in our group that have food intolerances and Hazel went above and beyond to cater for them. Very impressed.

Very very disappointed. It was supposed to be a long overdue thank you to a client at a special restaurant of their choice. One problem - they made the wrong choice! It is very expensive and the food was totally underwhelming. To cap things off, the service was atrocious.
