Even though we showed up just a little before closing time, the food was delicious!
Lunch was great. Craft cocktails, local beer selection, farm to table fare, eclectic, cozy atmosphere.
The food was excellent but they were understaffed and visibly struggling with service. One of our entrees was forgotten and didn’t arrive until much later. Even so, we really enjoyed our meal and would recommend it solely based on the cuisine.
Our party of 5 really enjoyed our brunch! Great service and really great food! And a delicious Bloody Mary!!!
We all enjoyed our evening at Haywood Common. We found the food to be very good and the staff was acceptable to working with minor requests to adjust the menu item to fit food allergies. The staff was attentive but not too much.
We had a big group and they were very accommodating. Food was great and good service.
This was in-part of my graduation celebration from nursing school. I did not mark it on the reservation because I wanted to know what the experience here was like without any "special attention" to the event.
Although the food was positively scrumptious, the staff scheduled for the evening seemed to be in the weeds all night. They may have been short staffed because everyone was running around trying to not let anyone, at a table or at the bar, slip through the cracks--even the bartender was on the floor to help grab orders. Once we were seated, after not finding our reservation at first, it took a very long time to get in our first order--nearly 15 minutes. I don't know if it was miscommunication from the gentleman who sat us (as we were under the impression he was going to be our server) as we got a new server all together and had to start over. We also had difficulty catching the eye of anyone who was working to ask for things such as silverware--we ended up grabbing what we needed from the server's station since we were right next to it. I also found it odd that the bar had run out of a few things and were unable to create some of your signature cocktails which was admittedly disappointing--especially since the one I chose didn't contain components I would be allergic to, so I went without. I am not sure what you could do about noise since the architecture of the building tends to make everything louder than normal perhaps but, not an ideal environment when trying to communicate among each other or our server.
As I said before, food was top-notch and I specifically chose this restaurant because of the staff's ability to accommodate a variety of diets--which can be hard to find. I have dined here before but it had always been from ordering at the bar and taking it over to The Whale--which is fabulous and I hope you never stop doing this BUT it may be what I do from now on to avoid the disappointments I experienced this evening.
Terrific gastro pub food. We enjoyed an Asian Chicken sandwich and a Kale Salad , both really excellent. Friendly and efficient server, great vibe.
The service was outstanding. Even though Haywood Common was fully booked out the night of our visit and we had a reservation, the staff was kind, attentive and proactively communicated to us that our food order was backed up on the line but would be coming out in a few more minutes. We were a little nervous because we were going to be late to another event, and expressed that to our server/hostess. The entire kitchen crew pushed through our order and our food arrived moments later, and they even gifted us some delicious macarons for my husband's birthday and as a gesture to say thank you for the unusual wait for our food. The food itself is always really good: the chicken and waffle is perfectly spiced, the tuna poke bowl is fresh and filling. I recommend the Spring Buzz cocktail; it was a nice twist on a seasonal favorite. The atmosphere is energetic, the FOH filled with natural light. As a local, I always recommend Haywood Common to visitors, and I got to see for myself how their whole team pitches in to make a diner's experience over the top. Thank you!
Great local relaxed atmosphere.. comfort style creative food. Very affordable..not super healthy but yummy
One of the best restaurants we have eaten at. Love all of the food, ALL of the servers are fantastic. It’s a wonderful restaurant. Do yourself a favor, and make a reservation!
This was delicious and a wonderful atmosphere. It felt laid back but at the same time there was something special about it. They also have nightly drink specials! Would definitely recommend!
Always great good and drinks at HC! Chicken and waffles never disappoint.
Our hipster server forgot about us. Not joking. He admitted that he forgot about us. So the service sucked. We got our food (which wasn't prepared to order) and that was it. The kid was GONE. Poof! Impossible to get his attention too (despite being two tables away). This restaurant is fine, but they should get some servers who at least have half a brain. Do not recommend.
Well, I certainly hope you wouldn't weigh your entire impression of a place on one experience. I assure you we take these matters very seriously and very rarely have issues like this come up. I sincerely hope you give us another shot because you're missing out on a great thing if not.
The food was absolutely amazing and such a confortable and romantic atmosphere
Great experience! All 6 of us are Asheville residence x 35 years and really appreciated the service, location and reasonable prices. We all agree we had a fabulous waiter, Jordan (I believe was his name).
We 3 couples have been friends for over 25 years, each raised 3 boys, have worked and, for some, continue to work in the field of nursing, medicine and teaching. Our dear friend now has serious cancer and we other two couples take them out once a month ( between her treatments ) to have a special dining experience...
Haywood Commons was perfect for our night out! Thank you
wonderful food and very knowledgeable server. love that it is local with families and small children playing in the play area.
I had been there several times before. I feel that the food is more expensive and the exception of the dishes is getting worse. Also the wait was extremely long even though it was not very crowded. I had the smoked trout appetizer which was overloaded with salt. For the main dish I had the chicken and waffle which was not as good as it had been previously. The chicken was overcooked and the sauce and salad was subpar compared with previous visits. I feel that there has been a change in the kitchen and it is no longer one of my favorites.
We had some recent issues to work out in the kitchen and we very much appreciate you bringing these matters to our attention. It's a shame that you would knock a previous favorite for a less than exceptional meal. I hope you'll give us another shot because our food quality and service has been off the charts lately and I'm very sure we can win you back.
Had a delicious lunch with friends. Second time here and we’ll be back. My only complaint/annoyance is with the music volume. It’s very hard to have conversations. Maybe it was a one time thing because I don’t recall the music issue on a previous visit.
Thanks for letting us know about the music volume. It is typically very low but we'll be sure to keep an ear out if it gets too loud.
First visit to Haywood Common. Had a terrific Kalyan’s Pork sandwich that I highly recommend. Husband had the Buffalo Chicken sandwich and raved. We asked our excellent, attentive and knowledgeable server , Crawford R , if we could swap our sides for their nori/sesame fries and they were indeed special. After consulting with him about what brews were on tap we ordered a Porter and an IPA and I’d call this a terrific lunch on a dreary day. You can trust it will be a good meal when you get to say hi to a well known and respected Asheville restauranteur who also was having lunch. We will be back for dinner soon!
I thought the food was good. The service was average. I would recommend it. I wouldn't do flips but I also think the food was acceptable.
Good place for dinner
The food is always amazing always changing but everything is fantastic!!
Second time eating here. First time—food was great. Second time — not so much. Frid
We were looking forward to a nice brunch and disappointed on their brunch menu . It was very limited , expensive and food was very heavy . Service was very good until we were told that amex was not accepted . This was very surprising since Asheville ‘s main business comes from tourism ... we will not return .
Always an interesting menu that blends consistently creative and locally sourced choices.
Bar menu outstanding... Servers conscientious to individual allergen needs. We enjoy entertaining
out of town guest here. #westavl rocks!
Haywood Common is a unique place to dine. A wide range of good food at reasonable prices. Enough noise to let everyone hide their own conversations but not so loud that your own voice disappears. I've been there three times, two for lunch and once for dinner on Valentine's Day. It even has a lot of free parking!
Excellent food with a medium sized focused menu that draws on both comfort food and Asian influences
Haywood Common is hands down one of my favorite new restaurants in town. SO MANY options, all great, I've never ever disappointed there (well, only a little, when they're out of tuna for the poke bowl, but the tofu makes a great substitute). Would recommend this to absolutely anyone on the West Side. Brunch, lunch, dinner - it's all great.
Food is amazing!!! Brussels Sprouts with Maple are divine. We shared several small plates—Animal Fries and Mussels plus some great cocktails. All GOOD!
We very much enjoyed our dining experience, food, service, drinks, atmosphere! The only issue is the door not being sheltered from the cold air in the front are of the restaurant, please consider a winter enclosure.
Great food at a reasonable price. Not rushed and noise level tolerable. Great service. Only problem was we were seated near side entrance (foyer to Whale and rest rooms) and there was a chill sent our way everytime the outside door opened. Maybe a curtain???
My Favorite spot on haywood road, Asheville NC - love the diversity of food and beverages they serve
I reserved a table for 20 for a birthday celebration, and the staff were so accommodating and friendly. We had such an excellent waiter who was attentive, so nice and got every order and check correct. This is one of my favorite neighborhood restaurants, and I'll definitely be back.
My biggest disappointment was I had ordered a medium rare burger that was more medium well without any touch of pink in the middle. Normally I'd have sent it back, but we'd sat a while before ordering and I was starved.
There were 6 of us for dinner including a 9-year-old. Food was great. Loved the boiled peanuts.
We were a party of 5 for dinner. Everyone enjoyed their entree choice. Would have like a bigger beer selection. But no complaints! Looking forward to the patio in warmer weather!
We love eating here, food, beer & service are excellent!
I was extremely pleased with my experience at Haywood Common. Everything was fantastic! Delicious and unique food made with local ingredients for a reasonable price. Ambiance was great! We will definitely be back next time we are in Asheville!
Loved everything about it except a bit too loud for conversation on a busy Friday night, for our senior ears. Will definitely go again, on weeknight or lunch when probably a bit less crowded. Happy for the owners ; there is a warmth and conviviality they must love!
