Aside from a hiccup with getting our appetizer timely we enjoyed everything about the place and our food. Will come back next time we visit Asheville.
Delicious food, quick service, quality location.
Great dining experience! Great wait staff, drinks and food!
We had a group of 7. All of us ordered different items. I ordered the calamari appetizer. For $13 it was more greens than calamari. My kale salad with grilled shrimp was very good. Others ordered assorted burgers and enjoyed them. One ordered the country ham sandwich and did it was very good. We ordered a bottle of white wine and it was warm. They kept taking bottle to cool it then would bring it back and forth to serve throughout the meal. A couple of us ordered tequila drinks as it was 1/2 price tequila night. Thank goodness it was!! Our drinks were served in a very small glass and were $7. I would b upset to pay $14 for that little drink! Overall, we enjoyed the food, the service was good, but think bar needs to do better.
The staff was very friendly and welcoming, and what my mom and I ordered was absolutely delicious!!
The fried chicken over garam masala waffle was incredible. My friend had the same and she loved hers. It was a quiet Sunday. Great place for lunch.
Haywood Common is my go-to place for upscale dining and cocktails at a very reasonable price.
It’s also my favorite spot for first dates for it charming, intimate, relaxed atmosphere. Such a nice alternative to spending triple downtown amidst all the tourism traffic.
But most importantly the food is excellent. It’s always fresh. They use a lot of local ingredients. And the presentation always exceeds expectations
Reserved a table for 3, three weeks in advance. It was a business lunch and I wanted to be sure to not have to wait for a table. The day before the scheduled reservation, I received a call saying the restaurant would be closed. The called blamed OpenTable for not updating their records. I don't know who screwed up, but this was disappointing and inconvenient. One of my fellow diners said this had happened to her once before as well. This is not a good business practice when you're trying to be a competitive West Asheville dining choice. My dining experiences at Haywood Common have always been well above average, but I can only recommend it someone who has reserved ahead, if THEY double check with the restaurant to make sure their reservation is valid.
Great, personable bartender. Great cocktails. The salad we ordered was good. The poke bowl would have been good if not drowning in the sauce. Nice casual ambiance. Will go back.
Wonderful! Julia was our server and she was amazing in every way. We had a great girl's night catch up and had a beautiful time. The food was so great, quick, and hot. The drinks were on point. Will be back soon!
great food, good service, small intimate venue with limited parking.
We would recommend the restaurant to others. Food and wine were good. Friendly service. This is a good place to go, not elegant but great. We'll come back.
Food is good when not busy. Homemade sodas delicious. Looking into the bright window sun the way the tables are situated puts the person opposite the table in silhouette so it's hard to see faces.
Most people will like this place. We were looking for something more upscale. You can wear a ragged T-shirt here. Everything was fine. Nothing special. The area around the host station was so sticky. I guess that didn’t help an overall impression.
Enjoyed out girls night outside on the front patio.
Wonderful food, wonderful service and excellent evening.
Excellent food, excellent service, stunning yet relaxed ambiance. Can’t beat the value in terms of food quality and atmosphere!
AMAZING food and drink menu- from someone that is normally pretty particular about food. Very much enjoyed the balance between more 'adventurous flavors' and also spins on good classics- something for everyone! Cocktail menu was also pretty impressive. The brunch was incredible, some of the best I have had in Asheville and the service was outstanding. Very cute and trendy interior/exterior patio as well.
The restaurant is nice, but shares common areas with a bar so it's not all that quiet & the restrooms are not well maintained. Our server was not the best - the wrong plates were brought to our table & he had to go back to the kitchen to try & resolve the issue. The food was good, but not great. With so many other options in Asheville, I couldn't in good conscience recommend this restaurant to a friend.
Even though we showed up just a little before closing time, the food was delicious!
Lunch was great. Craft cocktails, local beer selection, farm to table fare, eclectic, cozy atmosphere.
The food was excellent but they were understaffed and visibly struggling with service. One of our entrees was forgotten and didn’t arrive until much later. Even so, we really enjoyed our meal and would recommend it solely based on the cuisine.
Our party of 5 really enjoyed our brunch! Great service and really great food! And a delicious Bloody Mary!!!
We all enjoyed our evening at Haywood Common. We found the food to be very good and the staff was acceptable to working with minor requests to adjust the menu item to fit food allergies. The staff was attentive but not too much.
We had a big group and they were very accommodating. Food was great and good service.
This was in-part of my graduation celebration from nursing school. I did not mark it on the reservation because I wanted to know what the experience here was like without any "special attention" to the event.
Although the food was positively scrumptious, the staff scheduled for the evening seemed to be in the weeds all night. They may have been short staffed because everyone was running around trying to not let anyone, at a table or at the bar, slip through the cracks--even the bartender was on the floor to help grab orders. Once we were seated, after not finding our reservation at first, it took a very long time to get in our first order--nearly 15 minutes. I don't know if it was miscommunication from the gentleman who sat us (as we were under the impression he was going to be our server) as we got a new server all together and had to start over. We also had difficulty catching the eye of anyone who was working to ask for things such as silverware--we ended up grabbing what we needed from the server's station since we were right next to it. I also found it odd that the bar had run out of a few things and were unable to create some of your signature cocktails which was admittedly disappointing--especially since the one I chose didn't contain components I would be allergic to, so I went without. I am not sure what you could do about noise since the architecture of the building tends to make everything louder than normal perhaps but, not an ideal environment when trying to communicate among each other or our server.
As I said before, food was top-notch and I specifically chose this restaurant because of the staff's ability to accommodate a variety of diets--which can be hard to find. I have dined here before but it had always been from ordering at the bar and taking it over to The Whale--which is fabulous and I hope you never stop doing this BUT it may be what I do from now on to avoid the disappointments I experienced this evening.
Terrific gastro pub food. We enjoyed an Asian Chicken sandwich and a Kale Salad , both really excellent. Friendly and efficient server, great vibe.
The service was outstanding. Even though Haywood Common was fully booked out the night of our visit and we had a reservation, the staff was kind, attentive and proactively communicated to us that our food order was backed up on the line but would be coming out in a few more minutes. We were a little nervous because we were going to be late to another event, and expressed that to our server/hostess. The entire kitchen crew pushed through our order and our food arrived moments later, and they even gifted us some delicious macarons for my husband's birthday and as a gesture to say thank you for the unusual wait for our food. The food itself is always really good: the chicken and waffle is perfectly spiced, the tuna poke bowl is fresh and filling. I recommend the Spring Buzz cocktail; it was a nice twist on a seasonal favorite. The atmosphere is energetic, the FOH filled with natural light. As a local, I always recommend Haywood Common to visitors, and I got to see for myself how their whole team pitches in to make a diner's experience over the top. Thank you!
Great local relaxed atmosphere.. comfort style creative food. Very affordable..not super healthy but yummy
One of the best restaurants we have eaten at. Love all of the food, ALL of the servers are fantastic. It’s a wonderful restaurant. Do yourself a favor, and make a reservation!
This was delicious and a wonderful atmosphere. It felt laid back but at the same time there was something special about it. They also have nightly drink specials! Would definitely recommend!
Always great good and drinks at HC! Chicken and waffles never disappoint.
Our hipster server forgot about us. Not joking. He admitted that he forgot about us. So the service sucked. We got our food (which wasn't prepared to order) and that was it. The kid was GONE. Poof! Impossible to get his attention too (despite being two tables away). This restaurant is fine, but they should get some servers who at least have half a brain. Do not recommend.
Well, I certainly hope you wouldn't weigh your entire impression of a place on one experience. I assure you we take these matters very seriously and very rarely have issues like this come up. I sincerely hope you give us another shot because you're missing out on a great thing if not.
The food was absolutely amazing and such a confortable and romantic atmosphere
Great experience! All 6 of us are Asheville residence x 35 years and really appreciated the service, location and reasonable prices. We all agree we had a fabulous waiter, Jordan (I believe was his name).
We 3 couples have been friends for over 25 years, each raised 3 boys, have worked and, for some, continue to work in the field of nursing, medicine and teaching. Our dear friend now has serious cancer and we other two couples take them out once a month ( between her treatments ) to have a special dining experience...
Haywood Commons was perfect for our night out! Thank you
wonderful food and very knowledgeable server. love that it is local with families and small children playing in the play area.
I had been there several times before. I feel that the food is more expensive and the exception of the dishes is getting worse. Also the wait was extremely long even though it was not very crowded. I had the smoked trout appetizer which was overloaded with salt. For the main dish I had the chicken and waffle which was not as good as it had been previously. The chicken was overcooked and the sauce and salad was subpar compared with previous visits. I feel that there has been a change in the kitchen and it is no longer one of my favorites.
We had some recent issues to work out in the kitchen and we very much appreciate you bringing these matters to our attention. It's a shame that you would knock a previous favorite for a less than exceptional meal. I hope you'll give us another shot because our food quality and service has been off the charts lately and I'm very sure we can win you back.
Had a delicious lunch with friends. Second time here and we’ll be back. My only complaint/annoyance is with the music volume. It’s very hard to have conversations. Maybe it was a one time thing because I don’t recall the music issue on a previous visit.
Thanks for letting us know about the music volume. It is typically very low but we'll be sure to keep an ear out if it gets too loud.
First visit to Haywood Common. Had a terrific Kalyan’s Pork sandwich that I highly recommend. Husband had the Buffalo Chicken sandwich and raved. We asked our excellent, attentive and knowledgeable server , Crawford R , if we could swap our sides for their nori/sesame fries and they were indeed special. After consulting with him about what brews were on tap we ordered a Porter and an IPA and I’d call this a terrific lunch on a dreary day. You can trust it will be a good meal when you get to say hi to a well known and respected Asheville restauranteur who also was having lunch. We will be back for dinner soon!
I thought the food was good. The service was average. I would recommend it. I wouldn't do flips but I also think the food was acceptable.
