Excellent and unique food and drink!
My husband and I had a date here once and we enjoyed it. The drinks were unique, food fresh and waiter was knowledgeable and friendly. When deciding where to take my family when they were in town to see a play, we thought this would be a good choice. Sadly it was just ok in every way. The waitress, who resembled Taylor Swift, was cold almost to the point of being rude. The food was just not flavorful this time. Overall it was a very mediocre experience for us all, which was a disappointment compared to our first visit here.
Dinner was good. I had the steak, and my wife had a pheasant pasta dish.
It was a lovely evening we will be back! The strings were big. We had the chocolate swiss cake it was great
Cozy atmosphere, great cocktails, and interesting plates!
Sitting on corner of S Poplar St and W 3rd St is the Haymaker restaurant. I’ve sat in Romare Bearden Park, this is diagonal to this restaurant, to catch the sun rays and sketch a handful of times and never noticed Haymaker staring back at me.
We recognize things in due time; when they are meant to become important to us. On this good Sunday, my fiancé and I were more than ready to eat. We snagged the perfect street parking spot adjacent to haymaker and strolled in!
We reserved a table for two on the OpenTable app just five minutes before walking in and we’re set immediately upon entry after letting the hostess know we have a reservation.
Nestled in a cute corner across from the staircase, we sit and drooled over the menu. I ordered the cinnamon bread French toast with a side of farm grits and a side of scrambled eggs. My fiancé ordered the haymaker breakfast plate, no bacon with scrambled eggs. That plate came with chunks of red potatoes and jalapeño biscuit. Yum!
This particular day was very windy thus the restaurant was pretty chilly inside. Our waitress didn’t notice us trying to grab her attention, however, another waiter noticed us and took my coffee order to pass along to our waitress. The teamwork seems tightknit because throughout the entire visit several different waitresses and waiters came to refill our glass the very second it went low. They didn’t say things like, let me go grab your waiter etc. What great customer service!
We scarfed our plates down! The food was worth the 20 minute wait it took from us ordering until being presented with our food. The farm grits were a bit salty however everything was so tasty. This restaurant is a must-visit!
The tall windows, industrial open ceiling, greenery everywhere and spectacular light fixtures brought everything together. It all felt neat and trendy and loud and perfect for our Sunday. Loads of families were there along with tables filled of gossiping girls and others filled of nerdy guys
Until next time!
Be sure to make a reservation, this place is usually packed. Brunch is great and drinks are good too.
The food was very good and I enjoyed the atmosphere. My one complaint was that I ordered (and paid 4$ for) fresh squeezed orange juice that wasn’t fresh squeezed. Not a huge deal but if you advertise fresh squeezed than you should really serve what you are offering.
Made a reservation for Sunday brunch at the Haymaker after having been for dinner a few times. Server was great and took good care of getting our drinks and food to us asap. Bloody Mary, beignets, Benton's Breakfast and the Haymarket Breakfast were great and the leftovers even better!
We stayed at the Kipton and had brunch at Haymaker the next morning. It was delicious! The beignets are to die for! A must have!
Tasty food !
Had to wait 20 minutes for a table even though we had a reservation. Appetizers were good. NY Strip was salty, tough, and cold. Coconut cake was good.
Very charming farm-to-table style restaurant with excellent blends of entrees and some stellar mac'n'cheese.
We were in town from Greenville SC and we had a great meal at Haymaker everything was prepared and presented beautifully. Haymaker is a great place
Food was ok, nothing special for the price. Cocktails were outstanding, the best part of the meal. Service was great but we waited a long time for our food compared to other tables and it was like warm when received. The fat on the duck breast was not fully rendered, which was disappointing.
I have been to Haymaker a few times and I never leave disappointed. The menu has something for everyone. The menu changes throughout the year and each time I find myself trying something different. The dishes are diverse and exciting! My favorite dishes are the charcuterie boards, hush puppies, tater tots, and pork belly. The servicing staff is attentive, charming, respectful, and knowledgeable. I always end the dining experience with their decaf coffee and one of their desserts. Haymaker found a long time customer.
Grouper and the mushroom toast were the table favorites
I had been there once before. It has deteriorated substantially since that time. It has an air of being content with mediocrity. Usually a death knell for trendy spots.
Staff very friendly and prompt. Food delicious. Inventive.
Nice urban vibe but not crazy noisy. Dessert came with a candle for my birthday. Lovely spot before a show or concert or ballgame.
Got there a little late but the service was very good. Very nice and attentive. Food was good and the duck entrée was noteworthy.
Very cool place in a great location. The staff was friendly and attentive. The food was fantastic.
This is the second time we’ve tried this place. It has a very cool vibe. We had the steak for a main, hush puppies and the salad as an appetizer. They didn’t have the wings. It is a very small menu, so it’s disappointing that they wouldn’t have something available. Everything was solid but not special. The steaks came to temperature but didn’t have a crust the way a Del Frisco steak would. I think this is a great place for friends to meet up for drinks. I would eat here again but it’s not one of those meals where I’m planning my next visit. The service was friendly and prompt.
Everything about Haymaker was great, especially the food. I had the chick pea dinner and loved our charchuterie plates as well. Will return for sure. My only (small) complaint was the restaurant was very cold. We were seated by the door, and every time someone opened the front door, the cold air came rushing in and it became super cold. We were able to move to another table, but it was still very cold from the cold air coming in from the front door. I was shivering while eating dinner. My suggestion would be to put up some kind of barrier by the door that blocks the cold air/wind.
Great food. Nice ambience. Attentive service.
NYE was probably not a good day to judge the restaurant. It was very crowded, loud and the service was not what I expected for the price of the meal. I think that is mostly due to the large NYE crowd.
We went for the prix fixe New Years Eve meal. Mushroom toast was amazing along with the Grouper and Coconut cake. Bison tortellini was disappointing. Service was outstanding and of course the ambience was fun being New Years. Priced a little high for value but no different than any other uptown restaurant. We would go again!
We love the sophisticated yet relaxed atmosphere of this restaurant. Locally sourced, seasonal ingredients are prepared to perfection in appalachian-inspired combinations you’ve never before experienced. We’re lucky to have Chef Billy D in CLT.
Had a reservation at 7:30 and was told they double booked our reservation and we could either sit at the bar or continue to wait. We were finally say an hour after our reservation time. Service was good, food was average. Won’t be going back.
Presentation was great, waiters were great, food was absolutely horrible. I could have went to McDonalds and done better and I dont even eat that garbage. No seasoning whatsoever food drenched in oil and THATS IT. Are they crazy? What cooking school did they go to? Better yet, what did their mommas feed them at home that they actually thought this was any good???
My wife and I dined at the Chef's Counter and LOVED IT! We went for the 5.30pm New Year's Eve dinner service. It was a fixed 3 course menu with multiple options. FYI, everything the Haymaker serves is from the Carolinas. So I had the NC lump crab cake with a side of kimchi. I'm guessing the cabbage was local. My wife had a quail for her first course. The crab cake and the quail were both top notch in presentation and taste. For the second course I had the NY Strip (medium rare) and my wife had the Grouper. Both came with Broccoli Rabe and other local vegetables and were plated to perfection. It was really awesome watching the Chef create his works of art using his long tweezers. For our thrid course I had a coconut cake and my wife had a brownie cookie called a Blondie. True to form, both were absolutely delicious.
The price for each dinner was $65. The fish and steak were well portioned and I thought it was a really good value. I strongly recommend getting the Chef's Counter if you can. It is a straight up awesome experience watching the brigade work. Or sit anywhere. The food is absolutely delicious! Great job team Haymaker.
Absolutely fabulous meal, cocktails and service. Thank you Chelsea
Everything was delicious, though we felt some portions were very small. Service was very good.
First time using OpenTable and first time dining at Haymaker, very pleased with both. The food was AMAZING! Ian was very attentive and had great recommendations. The manager with the glasses even stopped by and answered the barrage of questions we had about their local farms. All in all we were super pleased and would highly recommend. We will definitely be back!
Great food and service and a nice location! Thanks to the chef for his hospitality!
Great service, food was quite good but not off the charts. Biggest detractor—it was way too cold in the restaurant and we needed to keep our jackets on. That interfered with our overall experience. Hopefully this is not a common problem.
Great food and a great time!
Not as good as the last time I ate there. No one told us what was on the charcuterie tray. We played “guess what you are eating”. Menu needs more variety, and food needs improvement. The Summer Dream cocktail was delicious! Need more GF options.
Went for brunch on a Sunday morning. Service was good. Food was fine. We liked that everything was local and made in house. Small menu. Not many brunch choices.
I always enjoy this place. The ambiance is nice and intimate and the food is always good.
Overall just ok. Server not engaging. Had reservations well in advance and was seated upstairs by column. Dark and dull upstairs. Food ok but only lukewarm. Would not repeat at this restaurant.
