Unimpressed. Let's ignore the loud drunk people at the bar because I didn't think to check if there was anything going on in Uptown tonight. That's my fault. It did make for a terrible date night but this part, at least, was not Haymaker's fault though it does mean that they get no points for atmosphere. We arrived on time for our booking and were seated immediately. The hostesses seemed bored but our waiter was attentive and friendly.
$101 for two entrees, a salad and the pickles with two sodas. That's a lot.
The "Haymaker Salad" was a disappointment. Delicious and perfect lettuce and fennel with a delightful citrus dressing but the farro was beyond crispy. It was crunchy. Unpleasant with the salad.
My wife chose the duck confit leg and while she enjoyed it, it was not much for this price. The confit parsnip underneath was quite good and prepared properly. Lots of flavor there but the rather thin leg of duck wasn't very much. The dish looked more like an appetizer than an entree.
They were out of my first choice, the "Steakhouse Burger" so I moved down the menu to the braised pork shank. The shank itself was cooked perfectly and delicious and quite meaty. I wasn't able to find the "pickled red onion gremolata" in my plate and the "farm & sparrow farro" was quite firm, almost crunchy. Is it supposed to be like this? The collard greens were melted into it and that was the best part.
With the noise, we opted not to try dessert and are now back at home, feeling... hungry. I'm sure I will not be giving Haymaker another try.
Andrew our waiter was very good.
Great place. Make a point to go there.
The service was amazing. Andrew was our waiter and he was very kind and attentive. My only issue was a lack of options for people who don't eat pork. I wish they had chicken sausage or turkey bacon/sausage. Other than this food was good.
Went to Haymaker on a Friday night. Got counter seating and they sat us at a bar overlooking / attached to the kitchen. So we were observing all of the cooks making our food which I found really cool. It was loud but a fun experience. I ordered the pork belly which was amazing and had the tiki cider cocktail which was so good and my boyfriend had an old fashioned and the burger which is massive but he really enjoyed. Great experience all around!
Was excited about this place.... Great marketing and brand design. Unfortunately the food preparation and service was subpar.
The ambiance there is great! The food needs a lot of work in my opinion. Not worth the price
Chef William offers yet another great menu. Great offerings, but delivery fell alittle short of Chefs normal expectations. Very loud for game day but empties quickly. Staff are well trained and very friendly. Amazing location!
We were having a birthday brunch. They didn’t mention the special occasion but they were very busy and we had a good experience!
This was my 2nd visit to Haymaker for brunch. I had the Brasstown Beef burger. It was excellent. Cooked perfectly and very flavorful. My daughter had the Brioche French Toast. She said while it was very good it was cold and had obviously been sitting for awhile. Probably would have sent it back but we were on our way to the Panthers game and in a hurry.
Second time having brunch here before a game and it never disappoints. We are from Charleston SC but always make this our spot for a pregame breakfast. Keep up the good work!
They had run out of 2 plates and had no desserts available. Food took long to come out. All this may be due to staff shortage most restaurants are experiencing but nevertheless it took long and not having desserts especially for a birthday dinner was a bummer
Great food and great service! Must stop while in the area.
The restaurant’s setting is the bomb. The food wasn’t bad and yes, I will visit again but our eggs were cold. A few hiccups here/there but overall the place is pretty sweet. We had breakfast.
Shout out to Cait! She was great!
We had an amazing meal with friends, the service was great and we loved all the menu options. I would recommend and will return the next time we are in town.
The food was absolutely delicious. The smoked bacon Manhattan was awesome. The ladies in our party had a fantastic drink called the Front Porch. The ambience was energetic but not loud. Our server was good but not great and struggled with knowledge of what was gluten free but was pretty good nonetheless.
Excitement over finding a restaurant in downtown Charlotte that features local food faded to disappointment beginning with a server who could not recommend a wine and was unfamiliar with the food. The mushroom toast and pumpkin salad were excellent. The crab fritters were inedible. I hope it will improve.
Experience was under whelming. Food was cold and not exceptional. Basic coffee was cold and watered down. Overall service was below average and impersonal. We had really high hopes after trying so many times to get a brunch reservation, finally did and were honestly disappointed in the overall experience.
It was my guest’s birthday and I decided to bring him for brunch here. It was a little busy when we first got there but it didn’t stay that way. Our server took long coming to our table, checking on us while we were eating and bringing the check. We did get a “free” mimosa due to the wait; but it was mostly orange juice. We really didn’t understand why there was a wait and it wasn’t as busy as we expected. I had steak and eggs mixed with home fries. The home fries tasted like they were reheated. My guest had the burger but he didn’t like it.
We aren’t from Charlotte…this was a weekend getaway for us. We went to a few other places prior to this and we did not experience this type of treatment today no place else. We will not be going back.
Great cocktails, amazing brunch entrees (shrimp & grits FTW). Excellent coffee, as well.
A meeting of the Karens
We booked here looking for a trendy, fun culmination to a weekend ladies' celebration for a 40th birthday. Yes, we were celebrating. We ordered a bottle of wine (for six of us) and did some toasting. We ordered our food and another bottle. In between our food being ordered and served we were cut off. We weren't given a specific reason and to the best of my knowledge none of our party were using lampshades as headwear, calling up the dinosaurs in the bathroom, or really doing much more than having fun at our table.
A restaurant has full authority to cut off patrons (though an explanation would have been nice). HOWEVER, we booked here for the full experience, and to me, part of that experience includes drinks. When our food arrived we felt shamed and unwelcome. We boxed it up after having a few bites.
This is where the Karens met. After ogling our bill ($300), I did ask to speak to the manager (I realize this sentence loses me all credibility). She explained that we made her 'uncomfortable' doubled down on not providing any further details and refused to share her name (hence Karen #1).
She asked us to leave, and I felt my hair change into the classic Kate Gosselin 'do, my soul left my body, and I planted, officially becoming Karen #2. I nursed two glasses of water while Karen #1 called the police (!) because we refused to vacate the premises.
To me, the appropriate action would have been for Karen #1 to offer to cancel our food order when she canceled our imbibing (and subsequently our fun). If Karen #1 is reading this, I'd like to suggest you find a career where empathy is not needed. You could be a prison guard, a Fox News Correspondent, or a cable company rep. Your skill set would be well suited.
For those wondering, of course the police did not come. This was some white lady nonsense. You have a lot of excellent dining options in this area, my advice is to pick one where fun is encouraged and not viewed as a red flag.
Didn’t get seated until 20 mins after my reservation. Order taken another10mins later, asked for condiments that never arrived, food is just ok. Won’t go back
Service was abysmal. This was my first time at the restaurant and I can promise I won’t be returning. I was shouted at from another table by the waitress. The waitress said that the drink were “crappy” after bringing them to the table. Another waiter had to come over, apologize for the poor service, and then run our checks for us. My card was run for someone else’s check.
Food was subpar and came out luke warm. Service was a mess but if understaffed is understandable. Dessert seemed like it came out of a can.
Liked the ambiance. Drinks were very good. We were disappointed by the food though. Most of what we had was ok but nothing I’d come back to this place for.
I wouldn’t eat here again. Service took forever and the food wasn’t hot.
Didn’t have our order taken for at least a half hour, food didn’t come for over an hour. Food was subpar. Just an awful experience unfortunately.
I took my daughter here for a special occasion. Not only did we have to wait awhile to get seated, despite having reservations, but once we were seated, we were not visited by a server for at least another 10-15 minutes. Once the server finally came and got our order, we got our food but had still not gotten our drinks or things for the table. Toward the end of our dining experience, I reminded them about my coffee, and they gave me one to go. I do not plan on going back, especially when I’m planning on celebrating someone, like this time.
Took forever to be seated with a reservation
This restaurant is really struggling with staffing. Issues all the way around, from not putting order in, waiting over 1 hour for food, food being lukewarm, etc, etc.
Seems like it has great potential but if our visit is indicative of normal operations, it is barely hanging on
Being on the second floor I’m sure it’s MUCH harder to serve people quickly so I’m taking that into account. Food is excellent! Wish they could get warmer coffee for brunch and more options, like soy etc. great spot for brunch and hangout time with girlfriends.
Was so disappointed on so many levels. Gave three stars only because of the potential the first floor has with its ambiance. We got seated upstairs which does NOT have the same vibe as the first. I rarely return anything but 3 out of 4 drinks we ordered was unbearable to drink. Even something as simple as a dirty martini and a mule that tasted like 95 percent lime juice. Before a large party sat down we ordered everything to get a head of them and they still got their food first. Our apps came out and were cold before our server gave us plates to share. The pickled veggies had a taste of licorice to it. I was not a fan but to each it's own. The pork belly was delicious and the duck had great flavor but those were the only two that stood out. Maybe this would be more enjoyable if it was Brunch? The upstairs atmosphere, the service, and the food just did not blow me away for my first experience here.
I’ll never go back here again. Idk what their problem was but in a party of 7 people, myself and one other member did not receive their food until AFTER we were asked how we wanted to split the check which was one hour later than when we sat down. We only received the meal because one of our members at the table had to go downstairs and ask where our food was and the waiter said “I did not even know you were missing meals.” Well that’s because he didn’t come by for a while to even check. On top of that, I didn’t even receive my full meal afterwards and the table didn’t receive 3 drinks that were ordered. I had 2 cups of black coffee for the entire hour and a half we were there while majority of the party enjoyed their food. And little concern from the staff was felt. Furious was an understatement. Wish I could get my money back for what I did pay for cause this was the worst service I’ve ever experience. Highly don’t recommend this place and if you do go, maybe sit downstairs or at the bar so you’re in front of every worker there and they won’t forget about you.
Great food and awesome drinks. Would brunch here again. Service was incredibly slow and half our table got and ate their food before the other half even saw theirs though.
We really like the food and ambience at Haymakers
Great food, great tastes, friendly server knew what the recipes very well to answer questions.
First time here. Sunday brunch. Beignets were disappointing -- heavy and dense, not fluffy pillows as Beignets should be. Shrimp and grits would have been excellent if it wasn't extremely over salted. My friends were pleased with the burger and the steak and eggs.
I loved everything on the menu except the BBQ potato chips. They seem out of place as a side item. Other than that - excellent all around.
Overall service was great. Our server was very attentive. Food came out fast. I ordered the steak and eggs and everything was great except the steak was very fatty. There was quite a bit of fat I had to trim off while enjoying my meal. The rest of the dish was delicious, but more expensive than what was advertised on their website ($2 more). The beignets are a must as a starter!
Haymaker’s food was good and came out quickly, but we didn’t receive our cocktails until after we finished eating our food. Service was extremely slow, but perhaps because they were short staffed.
