Food and cocktails were great. Don’t order the beat salad. Was upset they didn’t take it off the check but that’s ok. Overall great experience. I’d suggest getting all tapas and sides.
Grouper was freezer burn
Love this restaurant! Great food.. great ambiance.. great service!
Menu was very limited for mid day on a weekend. We would have appreciated additional options on the menu.
Great food and ambiance. Perfect location! Will definitely be back.
Very good food and cocktails. Love the extensive wine selection!
Vegetarian entree with dumplings and mixed vegetables was excellent. Only suggestion would be to add a few more mushrooms as they are so flavorful!
The food was terrific and great atmosphere.
Food was pretty good. Reservations is a must and helps with the long lines for Sunday brunch when the Panthers are playing. I’d go back if in the area again.
Menu is great, portions are smallish. Drink service was wildly inconsistent in appearance and quality of beverage. Specifically Bloody Mary. Glass size, without explanation of contents (ie was is a double or just more tomato) and garnish (none on second drink) overall enjoyable but lacking in the polishes that make me want to return frequently
Was the perfect brunch spot! Limited menu, but the quality speaks!
Service was excellent, the food was really good. I have already recommended this place to a friend. We are looking forward to going back.
WE had 2 vegetarians in the group - chef made a great meal for us so PLEASE, put a vegetarian option on the menu! You will get more people in the door!!! The noise level is deafening
2 people had the grouper and said it smelled bad and didn’t have much taste. 3 of us had the steak and it didn’t have much taste.
There was apparent mishap with our main courses that delayed it coming out an extra 30 minutes, all together probably waited almost an hour to get our main courses out. Only thing we were comped was two glasses of wine and it was a struggle to even get that.
Food was mediocre at best. The duck confit was the worst duck confit I have ever had. Mac and cheese had no flavor. Ordered bread and that didn’t even come out till after we had our main courses.
Will not be going back.
This is my new favorite. Wow, wow, wow! From the moment we walked in until we walked out, this was an amazing dining experience! Aaron, our server, was T.O.P. N.O.T.C.H.!! Warm, friendly, knowledgeable, accommodating, helpful, prompt. We were seated near the kitchen, which was fully visible - actually there are bar seats in front of the kitchen so you can watch everything being prepared. I was able to see that from where I was seated, and it was just plain cool.
My daughter and I shared several small plates, and every one drew oohs and aahs, both in description and appearance/presentation and in taste. I can't say I had a favorite - everything was amazing! Roasted carrots (don't think ordinary here. they were eye-popping), shrimp a la plancha, roasted beet and pear salad, foraged mushroom toast, candy roaster squash soup, and chicken thigh... every bite of every plate was memorable and mouthwatering and complex.
All local, all sustainably sourced, all fresh, colorful, flavorful. And while they were busy, we were well attended - the server and manager checked in on us to make sure everything was to our liking.
I cannot rave enough. It was amazing. If you are a foodie, you must go to Haymaker.
First time visit for lunch before theatre. Restaurant was very busy due to marathon finishing up across the street. After some awkwardness with the host, who had already seated my party, but did not realize that, and then told me my reservation was gone because I was 15 minutes late (I wasn’t) I found my people and we had an enjoyable lunch. Food was good, waiter was attentive, and we all agreed we would come back.
We were uptown for an event we attend every year and happened to have our 9 and 14 year old with us. Felt like they stuck us in a far away back corner next to the only other table with a child, so it was hard to appreciate the aesthetic. But, we all agreed that the food was delicious (hush puppies, mushroom toast, pork belly, shrimp la planca and duck confit) , so it was worth the terrible view! Would definitely come back. With or without kids!
We were very underwhelmed with Haymaker. Our server began with a long list of disclaimers - the dumplings are not stuffed, they are more like gnocci; the steak is cut like a square, but it is a steak; this dish has a sauce, but it's not a soup. If your menu is this unclear and has misled people (as it seems), then perhaps you need to change your entrees. We asked for the most popular dishes. The hushpuppies were highly recommended. In fact, we saw that most every table had them. So we ordered them. They were nothing special - just hushpuppies. If hushpuppies are the highlight of your menu, then you might want to rethink your menu. We had the shrimp and grits appetizer which was good but expensive for a small plate. My cucumber mule was super basic. Overall, totally not impressed, so we left.
We came here prior to attending Hamilton last Sunday. Upon seating we told our waiter we needed to expedite service and ordered our food almost instantly. After over an hour, we did not receive our food. Because we were attending the show, we told the server we could not wait any longer for our food and would only be willing to pay for our drinks. The manager had the nerve to resist even though we NEVER received our food. We spent over an hour waiting, only had 2 drinks, and ended up going to the show hungry. Not sure if there is a staffing or service issue at Haymaker, but our group was really disappointed. I can't vouch for the food here but the service was terrible!
We went for brunch before a football game and it was great! Great food, nice atmosphere, very hip and cute place.
This was our second time dining at Haymaker and we really enjoyed it. Although the menu is very limited the food is very good. I would like to see maybe a nightly special to offer one more choice. I'd also like to see a few more wines by the glass. There's nothing in the $15 price range and the ones below aren't very good. We had the grouper and it was cooked perfectly. The vegetables along side were also very good. Slate did a nice job waiting on us and made good recommendations. Parking can be tricky but it's worth the trouble.
There were highlights to our meal but overall we were not overly impressed. The mac and cheese was fantastic - the unique blend of the heaviness of mac and cheese with a light tang was great. Our fish dishes were unremarkable. Our server was fantastic - the kind of server who makes a meal with his timelines and personality.
Good Food Disjointed Service - Service was very good despite the waiter having to bus all his tables and deal with the second-floor issue. I do not recommend sitting in the upstairs area as it seems to be treated as if you are dining in another restaurant. There were awkward delays in food and service because we were seated upstairs. That combined with the low ceilings creates an awkward dining ambiance. The food however was very good when it comes to the simpler dishes. Items like the shrimp and grits were as well as the hushpuppies were great, but the mushroom toast and the salad were overkills.
Our new go-to before a show. Our waiter asked us right away if we were going to one, and he timed it all just right. My husband and I ate off each other’s plates because we couldn’t decide which meal was better. Excellent all around.
Overall a good experience. Sunday brunch cocktails a little expensive . Wife’s shrimp and grits were lukewarm. Would try it again though.
Food was awesome. Get the donut holes for dessert.
Great food and service!
Nice dinner. Excellent dishes. Service staff very nice and attentive. A nice selection of beer and drinks. Nice view of street and Romare Beardon Park.
Too bad. Food was good—space is beautiful. Service needs to have training—and operations, too.
Have never dined in a restaurant, particularly a SOUTHERN restaurant where we had to ask for 1) spoons to stir the coffee 2) napkins 3) salt and pepper 4) cream or milk for coffee 5) coffee topped off to stay warm 6) butter for Southerm biscuits!!!!! C’mon you guys, you will
Not make it when the customer has to ask for EVERYTHING, no matter how pretty the space is. There’s a LOT of good food in Charlotte. I hope you get your act together on service and operations so you can stay n business! Your food is good and the space is lovely. Fix it!
Over priced bar with rather unimpressive drinks and short pours! Not impressed but food solid.
Good, not great. If I get a $30 steak it should be tender and hot.
My fiance and I decided to have dinner at Haymaker before catching a show at Belk Theater. Our server was kind enough to ask us if we happened to be going to the show before we ordered so he could make sure we would make it on time. We decided to get the mac and cheese, pork belly & hushpuppies as starters and split the duck as our main entree. Everything was AMAZING! Will absolutely visit again.
Second time with business group. Excellent all the way around. Dumplings were heavenly as was the grouper!! And those hush puppies. More please!! Just keep those lights dimmer we aren’t in Grandmas kitchen!! Thanks!!
Charcuterie board is pate’ rather than meats as described on the menu. Macaroni has goat cheese but the menu does not say that.
Zoe was an awesome host!! Haymaker is a great restaurant. I will definitely be back and if you can get Zoe as a server that would be even better!
Great brunch, great staff, supper unique food. Loved all of it.
Excellent experience. The food was amazing as well as the service. Thanks for all of the great recommendations Aaron. Great place to have an early dinner before the Symphony.
5 star experience. We had 6 people age 4 thru 80 and all meals were terrific to perfect. I personally had the catfish which was voted best dish by our table and the best single food item I have had since a trip to Charleston last year. Service was A+ too and my son asked what time they closed to come back for dinner;) We will be back!
Great service and food! Went there for Sunday brunch. Awesome ‘Bartender’s choice of champagne cocktail. The French toast was amazing. Will definitely go back!
We enjoyed it! Liked the vibe of the restaurant and the service was good. The food was a little pricey for what it was, but we still had a great time.
