Our meal was wonderful! We met my niece and her fiancée who have been telling us about the Hawthorne for years. The service and food was amazing ! Everyone is so friendly!

After reading about this hotel I was super excited to visit. We were sat at a table located near the bar, guests and waiters would walk by and bump the back of my hair or stand to order drinks directly next to me and my guest, which was awkward when your trying to eat. Our appetizer order was nachos, they were delicious, however our main course was not. I ordered a burger well done but received it medium well, it had zero flavor and was falling apart, I also did not like the smell of the meat, it was just odd and to make matters worse it was all cold. My friend has pasta which was marked as a favorite but was also not hot, warm actually, zero flavor and appeared to be swimming in water-like sauce. It’s a big no for me to dine as this famous hotel, the food was not good, service was a 5 out of 10.

The restaurant was alright. There wasn’t anything really different or unique on the menu, but the 1925 burger was good. There was live music during dinner so that was nice. I probably wouldn’t stop for dinner unless staying at the hotel next time.

While it was nice to have a pianist during brunch, it was so loud. We found ourselves yelling to hear each other speak. The drinks are what you'd find a bar from a rented hall vs a nice hotel. The pancake was as thick as a crepe!! There were plenty of service staff but no one checked on us (empty water and cocktail glasses). Food took about 45 min for breakfast!! I burnt my hand on my plate as there was no warning it was so hot. Food was just ok. Sorry but for $50 each it's definitely not worth it and we wouldn't recommend as there's so many other nice places in Salem and surrounding area.

Out of all of the restaurants we went to on our trip in Salem, this was the worst one. I expected so much more for the price and reputation. I booked this special for breakfast on the morning of my graduation. The wait staff was rude and dismissive. They all saw us and several other groups waiting to be seated and they just walked past us all until they absolutely had to seat us. I dont know what they were doing because several of them looked at the crowd by the door and acted like it wasn't their job. There was no hostess, by the way. While we were eating I had to ask someone if they'd seen our waitress. It took so long just to order and then they never came back after we got food. No one refilled our drinks or coffee. The food was just okay with small portions. Not worth the price at all. My daughter ordered a breakfast sandwich. It was so small for the price and it came with nothing else. We finally got another waitresses attention so that we could order a second sandwich for her. My daughter was worried that we'd get the food as we were leaving since everyone at the table was almost done eating. She got her 2nd sandwich by the time everyone was done eating but it was fine since we didn't see the waitress at all for the check until 15 minutes after my daughter was done eating the second sandwich. The only two good things about this restaurant was the pianist was fabulous and it's a beautiful old building. Please understand that I used to be a waitress and I am so patient. All off the staff was just disappearing or standing around. The whole experience was truly disappointing.

So very disappointed; I made a reservation for Friday, Apr 14th, at 7 PM. We arrived at 658. It was very busy there, but also the hotel had a wedding in the grand ballroom. We waited about 5 minutes for a host to appear; a group of 4 before us also had reservations. The hostess let them know it would be a bit as there were no free tables. She shared the same with us. At 715, one of the group members went up to talk to the hostess; she said there was only one table almost ready to leave. The member asked for something complimentary - say, a glass of wine. The hostess approved. I went up directly after that discussion to find out more information; the hostess informed us no worries and that we would have a table; however, she did not offer us a cocktail for our wait. A moment later, she offered us to be seated at Nathaniel's across the lobby, with the same menu. Because we were hungry, we accepted, but it was not the ambiance I was looking for on a date night! Unfortunately, we won't be rushing back to check out the tavern.

Nathaniel’s used to be our go to Benedict brunch, but the flavors just weren’t up to scratch this time. The live music was a nice idea, but way too loud for conversation. Maybe try just acoustic? Our server was very accommodating, refilled our coffee regularly. Pricey for the quality.

The Tavern is always a welcomed visit. Upholstered chairs with a 'throw' if needed is just one of the many reasons we love this place. Warm friendly service and good food is a constant. The Tavern has been like this for as long as I can remember and here's hoping they never change.

Both Nathaniels and the tavern were very busy but luckily we had a reservation in the Tavern. We ordered quickly as the staff seemed overwhelmed. My husband ordered the chicken parm sandwich - chicken was burnt to a crisp - no Parmesan cheese just marinara sauce on the side - my burger which I ordered medium was well done and served with onion I asked to omit!! My glass of white wine was warm! We have had enjoyable meals here in the past and we’ve come for Easter brunch many times - hopefully this was just an off night

The staff couldn’t have been nicer when we had one of our party running 15 minutes late. They also didn’t rush us at all which was great. We had brunch - the food was great and the portions were very generous!

This is a wonderful restaurant for long leisurely meals involving good conversation in a pleasant, comfortable atmosphere. Nice selection of food, attentive service, convenient parking. Kind of a throwback to a different unhurried, less frantic era, but not a bit stuffy or pretentious. Consistently good experiences.
