Half Lobster Tail
Rotating Mignonette / Fresh Lemon
I expected a lot more for the money, waiter was not informed nor did any one come and ask about the food or the evening.
Food and atmosphere was very good, but service was not the best. Our server was very nice but disorganized and the food & drinks took forever to come out. When it did, we had extra food that we were told was complementary due to the delays - which was not true as we were charged for stuff we didn't order. Ultimately, not worth the price we paid (very pricy ribeye and seafood tower) but it could be good with better organization and overall delivery. Might try it again in a few years to see if they get their act together, but there certainly is no shortage of steakhouses that probably do it better than Hawthorn.
Overall maybe C+ - B rating. So much salt!!! The specialty drinks were amazing. If stopping in for a drink. Best place in Dallas. For food; it was okay. Just so much salt.
Our group raved about the quality of the steaks, fabulously seasoned. Hard to find the restaurant, more signage would help. Fabulous dinner, we will be back!
The food was good. They did a great job of accommodating my gluten and dairy allergies. That being said there weren’t a lot of options for me on the menu. But I experienced that almost every time I go out to eat so I’m used to it. We had waygu filets And they were amazing! They accommodated my allergies with the side that I chose which was good! My husband ordered the okra and the au gratin potatoes And he said they were fabulous. The sushi coming out of the kitchen also looked great!
The salad was excellent and the pasta dishes were good the waiter was excellent and made the whole experience very enjoyable
Steak was over salted and the lobster bisque wasn't edible. Service was okay but the food just wasn't good.
The service from the moment I walked into the door to leaving was amazing. The host was very kind and quick to assist me. Our server, Lewis, was amazing! He was honest and knowledgeable of the menu and he was very personable. He provided quick service and checked on us constantly. 10/10 would definitely recommend.
This was one of the best seafood and sushi restaurants I’ve ever eaten at in Dallas and the atmosphere was very elegant and very nice I absolutely loved every second of eating at this restaurant.
I don't usually take the time to write reviews, but I must say the service we received was horrible.
We sat down in their outdoor seating area where 4 other tables were also seated, it felt like most of the time they forgot that any of us were out there.
We got asked our drink order first when we sat down and after the guy came and took our appetizer order. When they dropped off our order, they never asked us for our main dish. It looked under staff as the guy who was working the tables outside was making drinks at the bar, as well as telling the food runners where the food goes. Lack of communication and it was obvious.
The manager was walking around to tables outside helping out and was giving his best service to everyone but us and another table of young girls. We were not served bread and didn't even know there was any until the table right next to us got served a nice bread basket. We politely asked for some as we have been there for almost an hour before our main dish was even ordered. After he brought us bread we had to ask them if we can put in our orders which was very unusual! The manager seemed annoyed we asked for bread because we didn't get any and when it came out to our table it was hard as a rock, stale, and not even enjoyable. They claimed it just came out of a bread warmer which was clearly not the case, the table of moms next to us who we kindly asked if their bread was soft was so nice and said theirs was good.
We asked for another basket of bread and finally our main dish came. We had been at this place for an hour 45 at this point (almost 2 hours before our main sushi dish even arrived at our table).
The service was very uninviting and I was unimpressed. I know these times have not been easy with places being short staffed, but at least check in on the table and let them know that or be more attentive.
We were 3 young girls and I hate when I go to a restaurant and feel as I have been under served because we are/look young.
The food was exceptional!
Eric the waiter was very attentive and friendly. Cocktails, charred octupus, Hawthorne salad, bone-in pork chop and Japanese tart were all outstanding. The pork chop may be the best we ever have eaten! The decor is a little misleading from the website as the pictures show the private Ruby Room but it was still nice. The ambiance greatly improved when the lights were turned down and wish had done that earlier. Great location in the AT&T Discovery District. Definitely highly recommend!
My experience was not the best, not sure why I was able to make a reservation for 1:30 when they close at 2pm. I felt little rushed and did nothing really enjoy my time with my friends or my food. Besides that there was a $50 cancellation fee which I had to add my credit card. Mixed views right now!
Overall extremely disappointed in the service.
Absolutely horrible. It was so bad that we left. Terrible service. They did not have the lunch they advertised. Will never return.
They are short staffed it seems we were there for 3 hours! Then our waiter who only went by our table TWICE over charged us and brought us the incorrect order 😟
Overall, a very disappointing experience.
Food - overall decent. Highlight - great Lobster Bisque, different than normal approach, very tasty and love the texture. Grilled Avocado Caesar Salad also shines. However, Hawthorn Salad lack both aesthetic and taste appeals. Wild Salmon, Steak and Frites are also underwhelming, nothing bad, but with no sparkles.
Service - lagging. Our cocktail arrived after the first course is served. Our 2nd course was served before we finished our 1st course. Even after we pointed it out, the same pattern kept occurring. Our main server (who was very professional) later apologized and explained that due to COVID, they are short on staff and have new staff members. We sympathize this, however, the dining experience became so not enjoyable, that we decided to skip dessert. With the price positioning of the restaurant, the service was severely lagging.
In short, we were excited to pay our first visit there, but with the underwhelming experience, we will not go back again.
From the moment I walked in I knew the service was going to be mediocre and it was. The restaurant was at about 30% capacity and it took 10 minutes to get someone to the hostess stand. When showed to our table the gentlemen barely gestured at what table to sit at and quickly walked away. I will say everyone was extremely nice and engaging! One major thing they need to fix is their music has commercials. Several times during dinner the loud music would turn in to loud commercials and it was comical. Never once in my life have I been to a restaurant where they don’t have their music setup to not have commercials. I could go on about the little things but I’ll spare you. Most of the food was good. The Mac n cheese and spicy tuna rolls were delicious…they are a must order!
I would give them another try…they just have some kinks to work out.
No servers, nothing on the menu was available.
There was a large group seated not even near us, but celebrating a birthday, that was so loud we couldn’t hold a conversation.
My salmon was raw in the kiddie, my husband’s steak was way over cooked (nobody bothered to ask how he wanted it cooked, but well-done & dry wouldn’t have been his choice.
Our server was delightful, but the time between courses was very long & our cocktails were mostly ice.
The manager did offer us champagne or dessert as a consolation, but between the bad food & the party that was Obtrusively loud and never made to quiet down, we left.
In fairness, we never got to our food. Our waitress, to put it mildly, was really struggling to keep her eyes focused and open, asked us 4 times questions about the menu itself even though we initially ordered her recommendation. I think this restaurant has a great opportunity and I will be back, it's a rough time to try to launch and relaunch a fine dining establishment. Hope they sort it out.
Everything was exceptional. The only slight little thing was the music was a little loud for table conversation. But that was minor. From the moment I walked in until the absolute moment I left, everything was exceptional. The food was so good I want to return for dinner today. That lobster bisque with the dumpling in the middle .... HOLY! The taste was beyond words I have to describe the pleasure to the palate. I think I'm going to make up a special occasion to return asap. 🤫😊
There was one waiter for the whole restaurant. There should have been at least 1 or 2 more for the lunch service. Consequently, the service was rushed and food was late. Meanwhile, the greeter/bus boy was working half pace. Great for casual dining downtown provided you have the time for a leisurely lunch. Food was good but not worth traveling to downtown.
Our server James was amazing!
Loved his energy and customer satisfaction attitude. Restaurant week menu was a little deceptive. Food was good, menu not really accommodating for people not eating carbs.
Very medicore food for the price, lobster bisque tasted like dirty water. Steak was very tough as well, but cooked well and flavorful.
Our wait person had too many tables. We had to wait exceptionally long for every course. The cocktails were really weak and their wines marginal. They brought different wines out that were not on the wine list ranging from $150-$500 a bottle. So it was one extreme to another. The bisque was more of a broth and was tasteless. I had salmon which was nicely cooked.
We are not likely to return or recommend this restaurant
Staff was excellent and the food was outstanding. Great atmosphere. Will be back.
The food was top notch. Excellent selection from steaks to seafood and sushi. Very flavorful and well prepared. The service was a little bit balky. Overall very good
Went for restaurant week. Very good service and great food.
We tried out Hawthorn for my friend’s birthday and James was our waiter! He took such great care of our group! Amazing customer service! The food and drinks were all superb! Will definitely be back! It was a great place to celebrate a birthday!
We went during Restaurant week because we were looking for a new upscale fish place. They have the right menu but the service was sub par for the pricing.
It took 10 minutes to place a drink order then another 10 to get it. The tables were less than 1/3 full. I actually asked another server who was milling around if he could take our drink order.
The food was ok, the lobster bisque was mainly cream, with a dumpling that had a mix of lobster meat and cream cheese. Let’s say there was a hint of lobster. The artichoke dip was the highlight of the meal.
The salads were ok.
Salmon was nicely prepared on a bed of risotto. The risotto was creamy but nothing special.
The funny thing was every time they brought us a plate they would say “ oh that looks so good” with a hint of surprise in their voice.
I hope they work it out.
Food wasn’t worth the price for us. Decent but not going to visit again
A good place to dine in downtown Dallas but sushi is not their “forte”
We order the filet mignons. We were told they were "out of filets." A steakhouse out of steaks? Anyway, the waitress pushed us toward the Wagu Japanese Beef steaks, priced much higher. The manager, Ricky, came over and tried to smooth things over. Offered us two steaks cut from the tenderloin, but generally used for medallions. But this was a long, stringy steak that was hard to cut and hard to chew. He did comp the potato and spinach side dishes we ordered. Still walked away paying for the steaks and two cocktails...$88 plus tip. A sad experience.
Don’t add a pinch of salt! One persons opinion here. I thought all the food was over seasoned. The egg roll appetizer was very heavy. The menu online was wrong. The waitress said they are recreating there menu. I didn’t expect this to included bar drinks. Speciality drinks were not available. Would not go back.
The food was good but not exceptional. The service wasn’t very good. It took about 10 minutes for the server to come to our table when we were seated. We only had our appetizer for about a minute before the entrees were served. The atmosphere wasn’t for me. It was sterile, bright, and felt more like a diner than an upscale restaurant. The music was obnoxious too.
Very good food. Disappointing that espresso was the only coffee option after dinner.
Too loud, unable to discuss anything
The food was amazing and the staff was great! Good spot for fresh seafood.
The food and drinks were very good. The bartender was able to whip up mocktails for those that don’t drink alcohol. The host walked around to ensure everything was ok. Service was decent but the waitress got busy with other bigger tables so then service slowed down a lot, but patience is important during these times when staff is short. I will definitely be back to eat here again.
Valet wait times were horrible due to short staffing, park in the Neimans parking garage which is a block away to save your self the headache.
