About this restaurant

  • Good for special occasions
  • Lively
  • Good for business meals
Located in the heart of Gramercy in the restored Assembly Hall of the landmarked United Charities Building, Hawksmoor is a steak restaurant that celebrates all-natural, pasture-reared, and traditionally dry-aged beef. Our beef is seasoned simply with sea salt and cooked over live-fire charcoal. Our seafood is locally and sustainably sourced from northeastern waters and we use small-farm produce whenever possible. On Sunday afternoons Hawksmoor keeps with the tried-and-true British tradition and features a Sunday Roast.

Completing our offerings are award-winning cocktails, including New York City's coldest martini, and a carefully curated wine selection. The restaurant houses 150 in the dining room and 35 in the bar area. There are also two private dining rooms that can hold 12 people and serve exclusive, family-style menus.

  • Sunday Roast

    Multiple dates available
Sundays at Hawksmoor are all about our Sunday Roast: all-natural, dry-aged, slow-roasted Rump served with crispy beef dripping potatoes, Caraflax cabbage and carrots, gigantic Yorkshire puddings, lashings of bone marrow & onion gravy and the option for a side of cauliflower cheese or slow-roasted bone marrow and onions. Sunday Roast dates back to the 15th century where large joints of meat were roasted on a spit over an open fire; to achieve a similar flavor, we start ours on our charcoal grill and finish them in the oven. Many who've had a Sunday Roast equate it to a Thanksgiving dinner – a comforting, filling meal that is best in the company of loved ones. And, should a Bloody Mary, or two, be consumed alongside it, who are we to judge?

Waitstaff was engaging; venue was extraordinary; and the food was phenomenal It has supplanted Keen’s. Peter Luger’s and Old Homestead as my favorite steakhouse(s) in NYC Recommend Pop music from UK for acoustic ambience

Every item, save the dessert, was overly salted. Otherwise, fine, if underwhelming.

We went there for the first time to celebrate my birthday. We both ordered their famous signature Sunday Roast, and it was really nice. A generous portion of well-prepared roast beef, delectable Yorkshire pudding, crispy beef-dripping roast potatoes, and other tasty veggies—all on one plate. The gravy was perfectly delicious too. As expected, the interior of the restaurant was beautiful—I’d seen lots of pictures in previous reviews, and it definitely lived up to them. Just a tip: don’t forget to ask for horseradish! It’s a must with roast beef. Our server (a woman) kind of disappeared halfway through our meal, and we were left hanging for a bit. (She was very nice, though) I was hoping to ask for some horseradish, but there was no one around to ask. Thankfully, two other servers eventually helped us out, and they were awesome. The female server especially—was super nice, sharp, and just had a great vibe. It would’ve been nice if someone had told us what was going on or passed things off a bit more smoothly. Not having a server for a while was a little annoying, but that was really the only issue. All in all, it was a wonderful restaurant, and we’d love to go back again sometime soon. Thank you!

The dining room is too bright. It’s like dining on the surface of the sun.

My family loves eating at Hawksmoor. It’s on the expensive side but not if you consider you’re in midtown Manhattan. The food is always outstanding and the service and staff are always amazing. We have had dinner there numerous times since my wife and kids found it and to tell you the truth we’ve never had a problem or a bad experience there. I would highly recommend making a reservation and enjoying one of the best steaks on the planet. The chefs know how to season a steak and the bone marrow gravy is outstanding.

Our waitress was extremely tentative. She explained the menu thoroughly. I will likely return again very soon just because of the fantastic service!

Fried shrimp appetizer with dill spicy dipping sauce was delicious. Ribeye steak charbroiled was done to perfection. Smoked Salmon was scrumptious. Mashed potatoes and sautéed spinach were perfect

The ribeye was melt-in-your-mouth quality. The gravy with the mash tasted like a mushroom sauce and was really addictive. And that French 75 was something else. I capped it off with a coconut sorbet that was almost ice cream like. I shall return.
