About this restaurant

  • Good for special occasions
  • Lively
  • Good for business meals
Located in the heart of Gramercy in the restored Assembly Hall of the landmarked United Charities Building, Hawksmoor is a steak restaurant that celebrates all-natural, pasture-reared, and traditionally dry-aged beef. Our beef is seasoned simply with sea salt and cooked over live-fire charcoal. Our seafood is locally and sustainably sourced from northeastern waters and we use small-farm produce whenever possible. On Sunday afternoons Hawksmoor keeps with the tried-and-true British tradition and features a Sunday Roast.

Completing our offerings are award-winning cocktails, including New York City's coldest martini, and a carefully curated wine selection. The restaurant houses 150 in the dining room and 35 in the bar area. There are also two private dining rooms that can hold 12 people and serve exclusive, family-style menus.

  • Sunday Roast

    Multiple dates available
Sundays at Hawksmoor are all about our Sunday Roast: all-natural, dry-aged, slow-roasted Rump served with crispy beef dripping potatoes, Caraflax cabbage and carrots, gigantic Yorkshire puddings, lashings of bone marrow & onion gravy and the option for a side of cauliflower cheese or slow-roasted bone marrow and onions. Sunday Roast dates back to the 15th century where large joints of meat were roasted on a spit over an open fire; to achieve a similar flavor, we start ours on our charcoal grill and finish them in the oven. Many who've had a Sunday Roast equate it to a Thanksgiving dinner – a comforting, filling meal that is best in the company of loved ones. And, should a Bloody Mary, or two, be consumed alongside it, who are we to judge?

Nobody cooks a better steak in NYC. Perfectly cooked. Thy have a unique charcoal method. Outstanding! And the sticky toffee pudding is unmatched in NYC too. Its like dining at a classic English steakhouse.

The food was outstanding, we shared some oysters , the Sunday roast and a "small" 14 oz chateaubriand from the board and a pavlova for dessert. The chateaubriand was exceptional and everything else was top notch. We were both very full but not to the point of feeling sick. Unfortunately the space with its beautiful vaulted ceilings was EXTREMELY loud, especially since there were a lot of families with children on a Sunday afternoon. They really should set up som sound mitigating panels in that space. Also our server didn't get our drink order right, and the. acted upset the entire rest of the time like it was our fault. I hope management didn't dock him for the drinks. The chateaubriand took a long time, 40 minutes, which our moody server never explained and when we asked if they could bring the roast first he was not at all helpful. I'd go back for the food but maybe sit at the bar because the room paradoxically is less loud and hope for a friendly bartender.

My second visit to Hawksmoor was as good as my first. My two lunch guests enjoyed the oysters, and had nothing but praise for their food - as well as the friendliness of the staff, starting at the front door!

Loved the Sunday roast. The gravy and potatoes were outstanding as was the roast beef. Came on a nice and warm plate and even ate my veggies!

I’ve been to the Knightsbridge location in London, so I was eager to check out the NYC location. The food and the service was excellent; I don’t often eat steak, but the meat was flavorsome and cooked just as we ordered (medium rare). Our table finished with the sticky toffee pudding, which was done just right! The converted space was lovely to look at, but I’m afraid the noise level was extreme; it was difficult for our table of three, who were seated quite close together, to hear each other or the server, who had to bend down to our ears to be heard! Perhaps lunch would be more tolerable?

Great service. Beautiful atmosphere in iconic building. Had the scallops for an appetizer. Tasted great with great presentation. Split the rump steak and the veal chop. Actually lived the veal more. It is the loudest restaurant I have ever been in my entire life. No hyperbole. I literally have a sore throat from having to scream to my dinner date and I was pressed up against her ear. Don’t know a way around this. It’s enough to make me not go back. Maybe I would figure out off hours when it’s not that crowded. Other than that it’s perfect. But that’s a lot.
