About this restaurant

  • Good for special occasions
  • Lively
  • Good for business meals
Located in the heart of Gramercy in the restored Assembly Hall of the landmarked United Charities Building, Hawksmoor is a steak restaurant that celebrates all-natural, pasture-reared, and traditionally dry-aged beef. Our beef is seasoned simply with sea salt and cooked over live-fire charcoal. Our seafood is locally and sustainably sourced from northeastern waters and we use small-farm produce whenever possible. On Sunday afternoons Hawksmoor keeps with the tried-and-true British tradition and features a Sunday Roast.

Completing our offerings are award-winning cocktails, including New York City's coldest martini, and a carefully curated wine selection. The restaurant houses 150 in the dining room and 35 in the bar area. There are also two private dining rooms that can hold 12 people and serve exclusive, family-style menus.

  • Sunday Roast

    Multiple dates available
Sundays at Hawksmoor are all about our Sunday Roast: all-natural, dry-aged, slow-roasted Rump served with crispy beef dripping potatoes, Caraflax cabbage and carrots, gigantic Yorkshire puddings, lashings of bone marrow & onion gravy and the option for a side of cauliflower cheese or slow-roasted bone marrow and onions. Sunday Roast dates back to the 15th century where large joints of meat were roasted on a spit over an open fire; to achieve a similar flavor, we start ours on our charcoal grill and finish them in the oven. Many who've had a Sunday Roast equate it to a Thanksgiving dinner – a comforting, filling meal that is best in the company of loved ones. And, should a Bloody Mary, or two, be consumed alongside it, who are we to judge?

A very attractive and posh steakhouse but it is extremely loud. Our food and service were very good but unfortunately the value just isn’t there. It’s almost like they are seeing how high they can go on the prices before we balk. I’m balking.

Beautiful interior. $21 for a Bloody Mary is steep. Started with a sampler of oysters. The combo of oyster with bone marrow gravy was inspired. Had main course of Sunday Roast. Beef smelled and tasted of gas - unpleasant. (Walking by the kitchen you could smell the gas, too). Yorkshire Pudding, roast potatoes and veg all good. Dessert tasty. Espresso tiny. More like a ristretto. Overall playing of food was good. Average service. Score let down by the pronounced taste of gas on the beef.

Hawksmoor… is awesome. That’s what the general public says but the general public..is missing a whole lot of that awesome. Upon my second visit, I have since determined that this fantastic den of hedonism is in fact a neat trick. Only a Brit, would think to themselves… “I really want to open a super drinking club with extra fantastically well made really boozy cocktails… but to get everybody to show up all the time let’s make a steakhouse to fake everybody out! We can even put a version of Yorkshire Pudding on the menu!” I have this image of everybody in the back room, laughing every single time people order one of those because of course “Sunday roast”but that is the magic. Food at this incredible restaurant is exemplary even if you’ve seen those cast of characters in some iteration previously. The anchovies that factored into the now almost cheap date known as the Caesar salad, were thoughtful…bacony… adding a lovely smoky detail to the briney element it delivered. The au Poivre sauce is an alloy of perfection that a toe would have been happy to sit underneath. The food is sublime. NOW, the REAL story-Hawksmoor, should be rivaling every single one of the best BARS…in the WORLD. The cocktail program here is being overlooked in favor of spots getting far too much shine. DO. NOT. TAKE the brown butter washed 10 to one banana daiquiri off your menu. In fact? Put that drink up against anybody’s in the city right now and watch who wins that was one of the most stellar impeccably executed libations I have had in 2025. Its sibling of Brown butter washed excellence; the full fat old-fashioned is smartly an anchor of your bar menu because it is so delicious it incites daydreams. However? The daiquiri? Pure alchemy. Genius in every way. Also? BOOOOZY. I have an image of the bar staff testing potential cocktails, and saying to the group “would this make a dent on a bender with Peter Sellers, Oliver Reed and Keith Moon? If the answer is no? F OFF with it!! 🙏🙏❤️❤️

This. Was. Epic! I read this aloud to the team today, and had to fight back tears as it made me well up with pride. You are what makes this all worth it. We already love to see you come in Amy, even on your second visit, and we can't wait to welcome you in again. Just so you know...the team was raving about you too! We'll see you again soon!
