About this restaurant

  • Good for special occasions
  • Lively
  • Good for business meals
Located in the heart of Gramercy in the restored Assembly Hall of the landmarked United Charities Building, Hawksmoor is a steak restaurant that celebrates all-natural, pasture-reared, and traditionally dry-aged beef. Our beef is seasoned simply with sea salt and cooked over live-fire charcoal. Our seafood is locally and sustainably sourced from northeastern waters and we use small-farm produce whenever possible. On Sunday afternoons Hawksmoor keeps with the tried-and-true British tradition and features a Sunday Roast.

Completing our offerings are award-winning cocktails, including New York City's coldest martini, and a carefully curated wine selection. The restaurant houses 150 in the dining room and 35 in the bar area. There are also two private dining rooms that can hold 12 people and serve exclusive, family-style menus.

  • Sunday Roast

    Multiple dates available
Sundays at Hawksmoor are all about our Sunday Roast: all-natural, dry-aged, slow-roasted Rump served with crispy beef dripping potatoes, Caraflax cabbage and carrots, gigantic Yorkshire puddings, lashings of bone marrow & onion gravy and the option for a side of cauliflower cheese or slow-roasted bone marrow and onions. Sunday Roast dates back to the 15th century where large joints of meat were roasted on a spit over an open fire; to achieve a similar flavor, we start ours on our charcoal grill and finish them in the oven. Many who've had a Sunday Roast equate it to a Thanksgiving dinner – a comforting, filling meal that is best in the company of loved ones. And, should a Bloody Mary, or two, be consumed alongside it, who are we to judge?

Dropped $700 for dinner for four at Hawksmoor NYC and left feeling… underwhelmed. We had 2 cocktails, a bottle of wine, 3 small appetizers (think personal-sized portions at premium prices), and 4 steaks. To be fair, the appetizers—especially the pork belly and oysters—were excellent, and the sides were also delicious. But for the price, the portion sizes felt skimpy. You don’t expect family-style, but a few extra bites wouldn’t hurt the bottom line. We came for the steaks, and while the crust was absolutely on point (crispy, flavorful perfection), they came out only warm and slightly undercooked for what was requested as medium rare. That’s a miss when steak is the headliner. Service-wise, the staff was polite but oddly dressed in street clothes—think jeans and sneakers, which detracted from any sense of elevated dining. Presentation across the board was minimal, almost like the food was doing all the talking… but it whispered more than roared. The dining room? Brutally loud. You had to raise your voice just to chat with someone across the table. Not exactly the setting for a comfortable or intimate meal. At this price point, NYC offers better steakhouse experiences with more polish and better value. Final scorecard: Food: 8 Presentation: 4 Waitstaff: 4 Value: 4 Overall Experience: 6 Would I go back? No thanks. One and done.

We were excited to try this restaurant for my partner’s birthday. The space is gorgeous, and the food really is excellent. The issue we had was with the service, which didn’t quite match the level you’d expect from a place at this caliber and price point. After placing our order, all four of our starters came out at the same time. This included oysters, a salad, and two hot appetizers. We were seated at a small two-top, so the table couldn’t even fit everything. One dish had to be taken back to the kitchen simply because there was nowhere to put it. It felt like the meal wasn’t being coursed properly, which was strange, especially after the server mentioned the steaks would take some time. Either the kitchen or the server jumped the gun and fired everything at once. Our server was apologetic, and thankfully the sommelier happened to be at our table and offered to take the other hot dish back. We were told by the server it would be remade, but when it came back out after we finished the cold appetizers (about 15-20 minutes), it was clearly the same dish that had just been sitting under a heat lamp or placed under a broiler before being sent out. That felt a bit careless considering the earlier mistake, but we didn’t say anything. The rest of the meal went smoothly, and again, the food was great. But no one from management ever stopped by to acknowledge the issue or check in with us, which was disappointing. The sommelier did bring us after-dinner drinks, likely because we had ordered an expensive bottle of wine with dinner. She was lovely and by far the highlight of the service. All in all, we’d consider coming back for the food and atmosphere, but for a special occasion, the experience just didn’t feel as polished or thoughtful as it should have.

Our server Orellia was amazing and everything she recommended tasted delicious. We loved the scallops and the surf& turf. It was on the louder side but an enjoyable meal. We celebrated our 10th anniversary and were very satisfied with everything

A great experience. My family always gets the same thing. Filet, creamed spinach, mack and cheese, Shaky Pete, and of course the famous Hawksmoor Martini. The Floor Manager came by to see if everything was okay. Quality and service are very high here. The only caution is the noise. If you are looking for a quiet meal, this is not the spot.

Great dining experience, but very noisy, it was Mayoral election night when we visited which have added to the noise level.

We absolutely loved our experience! Wine list is great; and options by the glass are high quality and interesting. Loved the exciting different toppings for oysters (and that you can order just 3 instead of committing to 6/12). The scotch bonnet ones were so good! Our steaks were cooked perfectly, and the roasted bone marrow put it over the top. Also, Bianca was an excellent server and really gave us a memorable experience. Can’t wait to be back!

I could bathe in the bone marrow gravy and die a happy woman! Fantastic service, unbelievably good food (it’s rich, decadent, and comforting all at once), and a gorgeous ambiance. We are already looking for a Sunday brunch reservation!
