About this restaurant

  • Good for special occasions
  • Good for business meals
  • Lively
Located in the heart of Gramercy in the restored Assembly Hall of the landmarked United Charities Building, Hawksmoor is a steak restaurant that celebrates all-natural, pasture-reared, and traditionally dry-aged beef. Our beef is seasoned simply with sea salt and cooked over live-fire charcoal. Our seafood is locally and sustainably sourced from northeastern waters and we use small-farm produce whenever possible. On Sunday afternoons Hawksmoor keeps with the tried-and-true British tradition and features a Sunday Roast.

Completing our offerings are award-winning cocktails, including New York City's coldest martini, and a carefully curated wine selection. The restaurant houses 150 in the dining room and 35 in the bar area. There are also two private dining rooms that can hold 12 people and serve exclusive, family-style menus.

  • Sunday Roast

    Multiple dates available
Sundays at Hawksmoor are all about our Sunday Roast: all-natural, dry-aged, slow-roasted Rump served with crispy beef dripping potatoes, Caraflax cabbage and carrots, gigantic Yorkshire puddings, lashings of bone marrow & onion gravy and the option for a side of cauliflower cheese or slow-roasted bone marrow and onions. Sunday Roast dates back to the 15th century where large joints of meat were roasted on a spit over an open fire; to achieve a similar flavor, we start ours on our charcoal grill and finish them in the oven. Many who've had a Sunday Roast equate it to a Thanksgiving dinner – a comforting, filling meal that is best in the company of loved ones. And, should a Bloody Mary, or two, be consumed alongside it, who are we to judge?

It seems the restaurant has two faces. What I got used to was a professional team, warm hearted waiters, and great food to share. What I experienced yesterday, was a completely different facet - ignorant if not racist somm (the one with longhair) who never showed up to pour the wine. Ok-ish food (oysters still solid though). And a waiter who is trying his best to fill for the somm’s absence but a bit lacking experience, still 10x better than the somm though. Would probably go back again, given not paired with this somm again. Ruined the whole experience.

Food is not worth the price. Not bad though. Drinks were great. Bar only might be worth returning.

I really wanted to loved Hawksmoor but the value just wasn't there. We spent $800+ for a party of 4 and there were a few really shocking issues for a dinner of that price point. Here's what was at issue: - We got the surf and turf and it was clear the lobster has freezer burn - it was very mushy and borderline inedible. - The pricing for their grass finished and other steaks were not transparent. We had to ask repeatedly about pricing, the complexity and permutations were mind boggling. - The restaurant is shockingly loud, all hard surfaces. I've been in noisy restaurants and bars but this was at another level. It was like eating in grand central station as they are throwing a festival. - There were a lack of reasonable wines on the menu, the median price of a bottle of wine was easily $150+.
