Sundays at Hawksmoor are all about our Sunday Roast: all-natural, dry-aged, slow-roasted Rump served with crispy beef dripping potatoes, Caraflax cabbage and carrots, gigantic Yorkshire puddings, lashings of bone marrow & onion gravy and the option for a side of cauliflower cheese or slow-roasted bone marrow and onions. Sunday Roast dates back to the 15th century where large joints of meat were roasted on a spit over an open fire; to achieve a similar flavor, we start ours on our charcoal grill and finish them in the oven. Many who've had a Sunday Roast equate it to a Thanksgiving dinner – a comforting, filling meal that is best in the company of loved ones. And, should a Bloody Mary, or two, be consumed alongside it, who are we to judge?

It’s a simple concept: bring any wine you like – doesn’t matter if it’s a first-growth Bordeaux or a bottle of Barefoot – and we’ll only charge you $10 corkage (for up to two bottles). Take a stroll over to our neighbors at the Aqua Wine & Spirits store (they’re literally on the other side of the street) and they’ll help you choose something to make your meal pop. You can even call us ahead of time and ask one of our somms what they suggest.

After a previous subpar experience I gave Hawksmoor a second chance because I read many positive reviews about their Sunday roast. Unfortunately the result wasn’t much better. The plates (as we were warned) were hot, but the food was not even room temperature. This came after waiting roughly 30 minutes for our order. The only appetizer we had was sourdough bread, which took about 20 minutes to arrive and was also cold. Obviously it was a holiday, but it did not seem any busier than any other afternoon. Our waiter was attentive and professional, as was the rest of the staff. The actual product, save for the gravy was disappointing (my stepmother is born and raised in London - I have some experience with Sunday Roast). In general, for Steak, after two tries, I’m likely to go back to Bavette’s after two strikes.

Unfortunately, my party and I were very disappointed. except for the cocktails the rest of our dinner was a disappointment. we received our appetizers which were good. We waited at least 45 minutes for our entrée because the order was not entered on time, we were told. When we did receive it, we were very disappointed in the flavor of our steak, but I might attribute this to the fact that I was tired of sitting there after such a long wait and I was not in the mood of eating. The 2nd floor dining room is very boring also so there was not much to look at. it was obvious to me that a lot more training is in order. Also, for the high prices I was surprised at the very casual dress of the servers.

Broccolini was tough. Creamed spinach was lacking flavor. Steak was expensive and they didn't have the desired cut (chuck end). Should not have to pay extra for extra gravy. Dessert menu was not impressive. Service was good.

The steaks and ‘all the trimmings’ were amazing! Steaks were cooked perfectly and the gravy is heart-clogging ‘goodness’ but so worth it. Biggest Yorkshire Puddings ever but again, well worth the calories and exercise to burn these things off. Highly recommended and show up hungry! Will not be disappointed. Our server Heather was so good and really appreciated the complimentary desserts for Father’s Day and my son’s graduation. Unexpected and totally delightful.
