In 1688, Joseph Haviland built a tidewater gristmill that provided the locally-grown grains to a nearby bakery that supplied farmers and tradesmen with bread. It was the first public oven in New York State. Haviland’s Old Grist Mill and the public bakery were community gathering places for two centuries.

Inspired by Joseph Haviland’s noble efforts, the Haviland Kitchen & Bar has been established for our neighbors. A place for our community to gather and share food and drink that are crafted of the finest in-season regional ingredients.

    Waiter was nice attentive and friendly. Gave our order and waited an hour to have food served. Pork chop was excellent and the boned chicken was great. Not sure u would go back due to such bad service

    We always feel like home when we walk in. Service is great. Food is top notch. They are seed oil free so I feel healthy and good eating there!

    We love having dinner with friends and family at Haviland Kitchen & Bar! The food is always amazing and the hospitality cannot be beaten. Every moment from a warm greeting upon arrival to an appreciative “see you again soon” at departure is an incredible experience!

    Friends of ours told us we need to try this place and boy were they right!!! Service was fantastic and the food was amazing. Try the pork chop it’s “life changing”! The owner came over to check on us and we spoke for a bit, what a great guy!!! We can’t wait to go back! Highly recommend this place!

    Haviland is a must try! It is my favorite local restaurant. East Rockaway is very fortunate to have such an awesome spot. Both the food and service is always outstanding.
