Harvest Seasonal Grill & Wine Bar - University City - Permanently Closed Ratings and Reviews
It was closed. I set up the reservations a week ago for my sister's birthday. We all travelled to the city and paid for parking and the door said "closed for renovations." I was embarrassed and so disappointed. Someone should have contacted me.
I made this reservation days in advance hoping to get a good meal before returning home from a business conference. I arrived at the restaurant to find it CLOSED. I was never called or informed they would not be open. I'm highly disappointed in the lack of courteousy and professionalism. I will never eat there.
Upon arrival we were told we'd have to wait 30 minutes to allow for those who made reservations. After waiting for 30 minutes we were informed by the hostess that they were still waiting to seat reservations. I happen to visit the website on my phone and saw that four times were available for reservations. I happen to submit a reservation for 8pm and within minutes we were called for our table. I'm disappointed that the hostess did not immediately suggest that we use our phones to make a reservation versus having us sit for over 40 minutes.
We had a fabulous meal, the soup and flatbread as starters were delicious. I had a salmon salad and my husband had shrimp tacos. Both were great and my salad was so big I had to take most of it home. Our waiter was extremely friendly and accommodating. We will definitely be back!
The food was very good, but they could use some less expensive bottles of wine. Our bottle of chardonnay was half of our check (we did not order appetizers). The wine was $48 and very nice, but it would be nice if there were some in the $35 range. There are lots of good wines that retail between $9 and $12 which would still leave a hefty profit margin! We were in University city and enjoyed the walk to the restaurant. We would go again.
It took a while to get a waiter to take our drink order and then come back to take our food order. The restaurant looks great but the service was very poor. ( The people we were with said that they had experienced poor service when they had gone there before - but they were willing to give it another try)
It was perfectly fine, but from the reviews, I had expected more. I would go again, but only if I happened to be in the area...I definitely wouldn't make a special trip to go here. It was roughly equivalent to something like a P.F. Changs...good for a meal here and there, but nothing to write home about.
Generally fine but unexceptional, but the beer menu was the worst I've ever seen. It listed brands, without any information about prices or style. We had to ask the waitress what the beers were, and she rattled them off so quickly it was hard to hear. When we finally figured it out, for some reason five out of six beers were IPAs from different breweries.
Love the North Wales location so decided to try University City. UC has a much busier vibe, less relaxed (the TVs don't help) but still good for a relaxed dinner if you're looking for healthy food, good vegetarian options (easily made vegan) and don't want to spend a ton of money. Highly recommend butternut squash soup
After dining at Harvest, North Wales, I was delighted to meet our out-of-town friends for a once a year dinner. From California and on their way to a 6 week stay in Europe, I knew I wasn't going to present an over the top meal. University City Harvest was a disappointment, particularly in service and the one working restroom. Our server was handsome and good-natured: Score 1! We asked him to bring the appetizer first and then the entree. "I'll do that." Everything arrived at the same time: -2. The room was light and airy and the booth was comfortable, liked the live plants. When we went to use the bathroom, the toilet lid wobbled and it seemed dingy. I know some folks judge a restaurant by the cleanliness of the bathroom. I don't, but this was embarrassing.
3 people - 2 meals good. My meal scallops VERY salty. I sent it back and was offered another choice (not scallop) I asked only for ice tea and they had the nerve to charge me $3.75 even after the salty scallops.
I don't live in Philly so they won't miss my business but my daughter attends Penn and she was witness to the poor handling of the situation and will surely influence her friends to avoid the HG.
Interesting they did not offer to replace the scallops. They must have had the complaint about heavy salt content in the past. I am in the seafood business and know scallops are not salty. It was the preparation in the kitchen.
$130 not well spent
Can a server be TOO attentive? This would have been an awesome meal except for our server, who was very aggressively pushing extras--appetisers, additional drinks, expensive options on the menu, and desert. We just wanted to be left alone to eat and talk, but she was hovering, and then when it was obvious we were just having drinks, dinner and not ordering everything on the menu (and not drinking excessively), she gradually developed an attitude and became a little unpleasant. At one point she whisked away my mom's dish before my mom was finished with it. I'll note that we were not there long, we all ordered drinks and entrees, plus an appetizer, and ran up a nice bill. Still, I guess it wasn't enough for this server. I'll go back, but if we are unlucky enough to be seated in her station, I'll request to be reseated elsewhere.
Our other business in the area concluded early and the staff was very accommodating in moving up our reservation. The service was great. Our waitress was attentive without being disruptive. Food was good. My wife got the crab cake salad, which was tasty. The crab cake could have been a little bigger for an entrée salad, and less greens would have been a better proportion to highlight the roasted corn. My fish tacos were excellent. Two were just the right portion. We would go again. Would love to try the bbq short ribs next time.
I have enjoyed Harvest many times over the years. This past time however our service was exceptionally slow. After waiting 15 minutes to be greeted by our server we ordered drinks from the bar and waited an additional 20 minutes at 5pm on a Friday! I'm pretty sure our drink orders were given to another table that had been seated after us. There were only four other tables seated! After receiving our order I was given an entirely different drink then what I ordered ( a martini instead of a margarita) I addressed the situation with the manager (Daina?) and she promptly brought me a new drink which was perfect. Thank you to that manager that stopped by multiple times for the rest of our visit to make sure we were ok. The food was wonderful and we can't wait to come back.
Service was extremely slow although it was not busy. Had to remind the waitress we had asked for things repeatedly. Ordered Prosseco that never came out. When food arrived I asked waitress where was the Prosseco. She said she had to go and get it from upstairs. By the time I was halfway through my entree I asked her to cancel it.
We had excellent service. The food was very good and fresh. The seasonal menu is a nice touch. The noise level got a bit louder as the meal continued. Nothing unreasonable. Maybe a little pricey, but not too over-the-top. All in all, a nice dining experience. Dana, our server, was excellent.
We have been to Harvest several times before and have always been pleased with our meals. Our group of four included both a vegetarian and a meal lover and each was able to find what he needed. My husband has very specific tastes and the kitchen accommodated everything he requested. We are especially fond of the desserts served in small shot glasses. Each of us had a different flavor and all were enjoyed, Prices are reasonable, We will continue to return here when we are on Penn's campus.
The outdoor patio was charming and the drinks were yummy, as was our cheese plate appetizer. After that, the whole experience fell flat. I ordered crepes, which came out about 20 minutes after my two friends received their entrees. The way the waitress 'apologized' was by offering 'an English Muffin that they'd accidentally made too many of.' I ended up nibbling on the cheese plate for most of the lunch and kept having to politely keep the waitress from taking it. (Getting frustrated all the while since my meal was so late). When the crepes finally did arrive, they were burned. My friend said his chicken wrap was dry, but we did enjoy the carrot cake bread pudding and (as I said before) great drinks! Maybe the next time, we would just opt for cocktails on the patio :)
