New Jersey is blessed with many historic homes that have evolved into restaurants. Few we have tried are as exceptional as Harvest Moon Inn proved to be. The menu is diverse and varied, the food was wonderfully prepared and it was beautifully plated. The service was formal, polite and professional without being intrusive. And the Inn is nicely authentic in its decor and ambiance.
Starters included a most unusual, and especially delicious grilled seafood sausage with polenta, followed by arugula salad with crispy Duck Confit and a salad of seasonal greens, pear, and goat cheese. Everything was fresh and delicious.
Main courses included a fabulous rack of lamb (pictured) and pork medallions (not shown, but larger than the typical medallion). They were both perfectly prepped and accompanied by crisp and flavorful vegetables.
Desserts are made in house and are not to be missed. Cappuccino and milk chocolate mousse with rolled in toasted hazelnuts was out of this world! (see photo) Ice creams were fresh and delicious.
Our only complaint was the bar staff, dull, dismal, and completely unsocial. The bar seemed well stocked and the prices were reasonable, but recommend avoiding the house Cabernet, which was too sweet and lacked body.
Why did we drive by the Harvest Moon Inn so many times and not give it a try? We loved our evening and will absolutely return.
We go to the Harvest Moon a few times a year, and we always come home very satisfied. The dining room is far superior to the bar area if you plan to chat with your party. The live piano music in the bar sometimes makes it difficult to carry on a conversation.
The restaurant closed on a day I had made reservations for a business meal with customers. Everyone arrived as per reservation and restaurant was unexpected closed without any notification.
The salmon special (served over linguini and clams) was very well done; it was really quite delicious.
Have been dining at HM since it was renovated in late 1990s. Has never disappointed me; has surprised me many times with creative combinations and super fresh ingredients. Service is top notch, bartender is great and if course, Charles On The Piano is sensational!
Fantastic food. It was a small touch slow coming out I thought, but everything was very very good. I will go back for sure. We had beef, pork, chicken, tuna and scallops. All were prepared very well and everyone enjoyed.
Food and service were both outstanding. A bit pricey but the food was outstanding quality. The noise level was a little loud, but that was due to the group of people that happened to be dining at that time. Will definitely return.
They should improve their vegetarian choices, pretty uninteresting choices. Menu overall was very good.
One of our favorite restaurants. A dining gem in Hunterdon County.
Excellent food and service, creative menu, comfortable setting
The burgers are to die for, the apple martini was great, the waitress was very attentive and the prices are good also.
I have been coming to this restaurant for many many yrs and just feel so comfortable - one suggestion turn off your
cell phones, some customers are rude in letting their phones ring and ring and then holding a conversation.
Was my first time there . I received a gift card for Xmas from a vendor and was excited to use it. I have heard so much about this place from my friends . The building was very charming and inside was a joy to look at and dine in. The service was first class, our waitress was exceptional and made us feel like part of the family. The food was top shelf and to be honest would stand hand in hand to any on the fine dinning restaurants I have dined at in NYC. I will be back again .
The food was worth every penny, everything was excellent from the crab stuffed onion ring appetizer through to the creme brûlée. My only complaint is the price of beer ($10.75!?!).
This was our first time here and we will gladly come again even with the 15 minute trip. Everything from the appetizers, to the wine, to the salads, the entrées, and over the top desserts were awesome.
The food here is amazing. I live in Chicago and can appreciate a great restaurant. This place is a hidden gem! We had arugula and watermelon salad - so delicious - and paired it with a great bottle of wine, steak, salmon and of course the company of our dear friends who are lucky enough to live nearby. A wonderful experience. Everything perfectly cooked, prepared and served with care. Thank you for a perfect evening.
I loved the waitress.. was very nice. I also love the piano playing of the classics. I will come again.
Outstanding; a perfect place to come for a summer dinner.
We were there for my mother's 81 st birthday. The food is always delicious and the service is great. My mother uses a walker and the bathroom is not wheelchair accessible-the stalls are narrow with no bars and low toilets. It is an issue everytime we go here. There is a lovely handicapped entrance around back by the the beautiful gardens that is very convenient.
our party of five had a wonderful meal on a Saturday evening. Very good food, very good service, nice drinks, a little pricy but worth it.
We have been to Harvest Moon Inn previously for special occasions and enjoyed it. We hadn't been in a while. What a disappointment! We did not have the traditional steak that is served and tried some other menu items. We were so disappointed with the gnocchi (no sauce or flavor at all on them) and the seafood sausage (tasted very fishy). Sadly my birthday dinner was ruined.
We had a lovely time for dinner - it’s a bit pricey so we haven’t been for some time - I had the breaded chicken over risotto which was absolutely delicious, my daughter said her NY strip was cooked perfectly- our waiter was very good and friendly!!
Thus is a wonderful, quiet inn with excellent food and service
This elegant setting has an elegant menu to match. The chef is always on his game and the meal never disappoints. There is always something for everyone. This was a wonderful birthday occasion.
After so many great dinners here, I came in for lunch. The Grilled Pork Medallions, done with asparagus and risotto and the Arugula salad with crisp duck confit were ideal courses. Lunch or dinner, I have to rate highly the meals I've enjoyed here.
This was a Saturday night dinner out and the food was fabulous; everything to perfection from the hot rolls to the peanut butter brownie dessert and everything in between. The staff was also great and more than accommodating and friendly. The wedding in the bar area was a bit intrusive, and it felt odd to enter the restaurant through the wedding. Wonder why they don't have another entrance for the restaurant when a wedding is in progress. Overall, I would go back again and recommend this restaurant to a friend.
Went there on the night before Mother's Day. EXTREMELY loud wedding in bar area spilled into dining room. For some reason, they couldn't figure out how to keep the door between the two rooms closed, so they used a napkin wedged in the door frame?!
While the food was very good, portions are very small and the service was marginal. We've been there numerous times, and we'll be back someday, but not in a hurry...
The food was fantastic. The service was excellent. I highly recommend it!
Very nice ambience and quiet enough to carry on a conversation easily -- not too many places like that! The Peking duck breast with asparagus risotto was outstanding.
Charming restaurant. Menu selections were very appealing and varied. While I am not vegetarian, I did select a tomato based pasta with vegetables and it was outstanding. The flavors were still resonating with me the next day. Would definately recommend. Food, service and ambiance were excellent.
Always consistently very good or better. Food is delicious, eye appealing, and served on very warm plates. The wait staff is very pleasant ( not overbearing). The noise level in bar can be a bit loud if there are groups.
Always a great and delicious meal. My wife and I eat here at every opportunity we have. You won’t be disappointed.
The service and food is excellent. We have been there several times over the past few years and have never been disappointed.
A great special occasion place. I went with four others and all of our meals were amazing.
The food was perfect, the waiter couldn't be better and the live piano playing was beautiful. even the bar was so quaint!
Excellent menu; city pricing in dining room -- less expensive options in Tavern.
My wife and I went to Harvest Moon to celebrate our anniversary on a Thursday night. The restaurant was not crowded so, we elected to sit in the tavern. Our cocktails were expertly prepared. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. Dinner was fabulous. Our steaks were perfectly cooked, the presentation of the meal appealing, and most importantly delicious. Our meal was finished off with a complementary dessert acknowledging our anniversary. Looking forward to going back again soon.
Always a special treat. Great value for an excellent meal.
All aspects of the dinner were outstanding... service, food, setting
Dining here with a friend who has never been here before, I think the Harvest Moon made a very good impression. The starters and Entrées we selected were great, as was the service.
Portions good size though
Piano player a plus
Filet was tougher than expected
We have driven by several times and always thought "we need to check that place out". Finally got around to doing so after a friend who dines out a lot mentioned it's their favorite restaurant. One week and two visits later, I have to say it's now one of ours too. Per our friend's recommendation we ate in the bar both times; it has a bit more relaxed atmosphere than the restaurant (although still very charming) so we didn't feel out of place in our jeans but could still order from the full menu. First visit we had the sausage/goat cheese pizza and the beef tenderloin sandwich. Second time we opted for full dinners - started with the spinach and romaine salads, followed by the grilled chicken breast with gnocchi, bacon, and peas and the grilled pork medallions with whipped potatoes and red cabbage. All of it was delicious - we thoroughly enjoyed. Service was attentive, prices reasonable, and the ambience charming.... we're glad we found this gem!
