The food here is excellent and we like to take friends from out of town here but tonight we waited an hour for our meals and were offered not much more than an apology. When we asked for something for the inconvenience they obliged but I would say they really couldn’t handle the Saturday rush.
Spectacular meal, as always. We're unable to check out more restaurants in Sonoma because Harvest Moon changes their menu daily, uses only local, sustainable ingredients, and has chefs that are true artists. Why go elsewhere? Our foodie family from Chicago were blown away. The outside garden is such a lovely environment, and the service is always spectacular.
Waiter seemed distracted, I asked him to recommend a wine with my appetizer. He brought me the wine, but forgot to put in my order for the appetizer. They started bringing out the entrees, so I told him forget the appetizer. The entrees didn’t come out together either, which was bad. The first served was a steak dinner and then over about a 5 minute period the rest of the food came, bad expoditing. The food was decent, but the sauce for the flat iron steak tasted strange, so I scraped it all off. It was supposed to be horseradish but it tasted like lemon. I thought maybe it was rancid. Finally we finished and got the bill. Then he told us that the $20 corking fee would be waived if we ordered a bottle off the menu. He didn’t mention that a half bottle didn’t count, even though it cost $28. We had to put our foot down, finally he removed the fee.
The service was very slow overall. I doubt I would go back.
Harvest Moon is consistently awesome, our go-to in Sonoma (which is saying a lot) when we want a delicious night out.
Food was perfect. Fantastic waiter. A little noisy.
LOVED the pate~
Harvest Moon = Top 3 restaurants in the town of Sonoma - end of story.
Harvest Moon is the culinary child of a husband & wife team with true foodie pedigree: Nick & Jen Demarest, the chef and pastry chef respectively, hail from Chez Panisse (Berkeley) & La Toque (Napa).
We're fortunate to eat out frequently (throughout the Bay Area) on a regular basis . . . and know and appreciate food and enjoy overall dining experiences.
Tonight we shared the . . . Marinated beets and celery with tonnato sauce, tarragon, micro mustard greens and fried capers ($13.95) = Amazing !
We both thoroughly enjoyed the . . . Liberty Farm Duck three ways: grilled breast, confit leg & liver toast with Brussels sprouts, lentils and currant sauce ($26.95) = This was CRAZY Good / Memorable.
The menu here changes daily, although they do keep some of their staples consistent, just prepared a different way that evening. Late in the day you can check their website to see if tonight's menu is posted yet . . . to preview your game-plan for that evening.
Cozy casual dining with great service and a fun/approachable wine list that's not out of control . . . offers a wide selection and at great prices (imagine that). Tonight we brought a nice bottle of Williams Selyem to enjoy - Corkage is $20.
If you can't get in here . . . Cafe La Haye . . . or . . . Girl & the Fig . . . will work culinary magic.
This is my favorite restaurant in the town of Sonoma. Its fairly quiet which I enjoy, the pasta is the best I've ever had anywhere, great wine list, the bread is the BEST and much more. Its pretty consistently wonderful with only 2 times this year out of about 20 where I wasn't overally satisfied with the fish. They have a very large outdoor patio and its heated in the winter which is great.
Date night just after the holidays resulted in a fabulous steak dinner for two. we really enjoyed the back patio area which was tented and had heaters so all was cozy. The waiter was very friendly and the food was delicious.
If a restaurant is going to prepare a fixed price menu for special holidays, it really needs to be special. Far from it, especially given the price charged. Really disappointed!
Had New Year's dinner, special three course set menu with choices for each course.
Fabulous country Pate with truffles, duck breast cooked to perfection and Grand Marnier crème Brule. The perfect way to ring in the New Year.
This is one of our favoirite restaurants in wine county. Great service and the food is always a revelation.
