Harvest Ratings and Reviews
Went to Harvest for Sun Brunch to celebrate a friend's milestone birthday, which included a surprise element of folks arriving from far away. The staff was terrific, and very, very helpful. Food was fabulous: fresh, great flavors, perfectly sized portions, attractive presentations. This is the second time I have eaten at Harvest -- the last time was about 10 years ago -- and it lived up to my memory. Would highly recommend it.
We were having dinner before going to the theater and the manager and wait staff were incredibly helpful in getting through in a timely way including helping us with transportation. While it was timely there was no sense of being rushed. People were just attentive. The food was fantastic.
We went here for dinner before a night at the theater. The service was great and they were able to accommodate our schedule and get us to the theater on time. The restaurant has a great ambiance, with warm lighting and dark wood. The menu features local ingredients and is delicious! Be sure to check the menu ahead of time as it changes seasonally (and the menu isn't very expansive given its emphasis on local ingredients). Overall a great start to the night!
I loved that it was quiet enough to talk at a comfortable level without struggling to hear. Made it more enjoyable than many restaurants for us. Our waiter was simply terrific. I told him I am a huge fan of Holiday Baking Championship and that we are very excited that Josh Livsey is on it and he sent Josh out to our table when the desserts arrived. Josh was so personable and warm and it was so nice of him to come talk to us, and it was really such a nice touch of our waiter to arrange it. We all really appreciated the personal touch of both if them.
Weekday reservation - arrived on time, yet our overwhelming sense was that they wanted us in and out as fast as possible. From asking if they could clear our plates while we clearly were mid-meal, to not even asking if we wanted to see a dessert menu. It was bizarre service, pretty much from when we arrived. And it wasn’t just one person - it was at least 3. Did not plan to complain, but since you asked for a review, here it is.
To be fair, the food was excellent.
But I have never felt less welcome in a restaurant before. So, will not return.
There was an amazing spaghetti squash dish on the specials menu the night we were there. The dish contained meat. Between the waiter and manager, they were able to have the chef prepare a vegetarian version specifically for my dietary needs. It was FANTASTIC! Thank you so much for a lovely evening!
We knew from prior experience that the meal would be pricey but we expected the food to be really good. Three of us had the seafood in broth and we were all disappointed, some more than others. I thought it was very bland and rather meager in quantity. I should have asked for some crushed red pepper or something like that to jazz it up.
One of my twenty-something nephews ordered the beef dish and the other ordered the sea bass. They were both happy I think but would have been too polite to complain about anything. This place has a very comfortable noise level and it was a pleasant place to relax and enjoy the evening. But we spent almost $500 for the five of us and the food was definitely overpriced. Won't be back for quite a while.
I found the menu to be so unappetizing that I left without ordering. The food must be excellent because the choices are not. I have been coming to the Harvest since it opened but I shall not be back for food until the menu changes. Exceptionally disappointed.
Harvest - what an institution! I have been going here for over 25 years. Back then they were one of the only really inventive restaurants around, and despite the explosion of the restaurant scene in Cambridge in the past 15 years, it remains a favorite as they stay fresh, and never fail to please. The service is wonderful. If it is a special occasion - even just "we stopped in to celebrate that my cancer scan showed no new bad things" - they bring champagne on the house and treat you like kings and queens all night. But even if you say "I am here with a friend, catching up!" they still treat you like royalty (though maybe no gratis champagne). The food is consistently excellent, with a superb variety of kinds of dishes. I just love the venison - it is perfectly done with superb flavors. I eat out about 3-5 nights a week at mostly upper end restaurants. Harvest is a bit too pricey for regular dining, but it is definitely worth the occasional splurge, just because. So glad they have stayed at the top of their game!
I've been eating at Harvest since the 1970s. After the past ten or so years of disappointing meals and poor service, we had a top-notch experience most recently. Our waiter was perfect: friendly, welcoming, knew the menu well, delivered the food promptly, but not at all intrusive and did not rush us. The food - especially the special salad and the regular roast chicken dish - was excellent. I'm hopeful that Harvest is back! Now just bring back the original Marimekko fabric on the bench seats, since it's finally back in fashion!
This was a joy from the moment we entered and the attention we received from the hostess.
Our waiter was attentive, warm and explained in detail any questions we had.
Now to the food and presentation of how plated>>>>>absolutely fantastic, equal to many of the 5 star restaurants we have dined at.
The desserts looked like paintings from the museum and even tasted better than that.
We left b y making new years reservations.
Our waiter was outstanding! I was having dinner with a friend visiting from Rochester, and her husband is a chef. My friend was excited about the menu, and our waiter answered a lot of questions and made good recommendations for wine and food. We had a 3-hour dinner. We also ran into several friends from different times in my life--some of whom were seated at the bar and others a table away. It was a nice feeling to be in good company and to be enjoying good food. The lobster dish was very good--only complaint was that there was very little lobster!
I have been dining at Harvest since 1973 and this was my best meal ever. The seasonings, and the presentation were outstanding. The service was friendly and prompt. That atmosphere is European and cozy. Our top restaurant in Cambridge and for that matter the US.
Haven't been to Harvest in a while and we thoroughly enjoyed our evening. Great restaurant in Harvard Square with an interesting and delicious menu! Everything was fantastic and the desserts were outstanding, creative and beautiful! Glad we made the visit...will be back on our rotation!
Outstanding food. The courses tasted wonderful and had some innovation on old standards. I got the venison leg on a pumpkin polenta and it was surprising and delicious. The dessert was OUT OF THIS WORLD - 'candied' apple which I cannot possibly begin to describe. It was stunningly beautiful and tasted even better than it looked. Will definitely come back next time I'm in Boston.
This continues to be my favorite 'go to' place in Harvard Square, as the experience is always consistent on many levels: Ambiance, Food, Service. This time, it was a business dinner, and Tim made me look like a rock star for wine choices (It was all him!). Thank you, Tim!
Harvest never disappoints. The food is always tasty and the service is friendly and efficient. My friend and I were there for lunch. She had the lentil soup, and I had the French onion. We shared the housemade buratta and beet salad. And we enjoyed a cappuccino. Everything was delicious.
Very nice menu, food well prepared, and service was exceptional. Hard to talk about ambience, as we were seated towards an end, I think. It kind of winds around, so hard to say exactly what the ambience is. The prices are moderately expensive. It seems like a special occasion restaurant.
Hadn't been there for at least 20 years, and it was even better than we remembered. Tim was an excellent server, and sent the manager to the wine cellar to find the special bottle of wine we ordered - and he did! Sitting outside in November was a treat too!
