Harvest Ratings and Reviews
My Mom saw this restaurant on a list of restaurants to check out in Massachusetts. We went for lunch and couldn’t be happier. The service was outstanding, atmosphere was great (fireplaces, plenty of room at your table) and the food was exceptional. Do yourself a favor and go here!!
We chose this because it is near a concert we were attending at Sanders Theater, so we were dining early. The food was very good -- not super special, but very good. The service was pleasant but the wait for the main course was extremely long. Not dangerously so for our plans bc we left a lot of time, but it was very slow.
Came here for a date night. Promptly shown to table. Ordered two cocktails, an appetizer, two entrees, and two sides, and we were asked if we wanted bread. Though we answered yes, it didn't ever come. Cocktails came promptly and were good. The appetizer of Beatrix brie arrived, and it was excellent and a highlight of the evening. As our appetizer was cleared, we ordered a second round of drinks to come with our entrees. Our entrees arrived a bit later, but our sides weren't there. We had to remind our waiter that we had ordered them, and though we had hoped they were merely forgotten in the window by the runner, they actually hadn't been put in at all. It took a good chunk of time for them to come out, at which point our half-eaten entrees had gotten a bit lukewarm. The carrot and goat cheese side was another highlight of the evening, but it would have been much more enjoyable matched with the entrees we wanted to mix it in with. Overall, inattentive and forgetful service negatively impacted what would have otherwise been a pretty excellent meal and rendered it just pretty good.
Overall, a very nice evening.
We had to wait a bit too longs for the table, and the service was a bit off, but overall, it was lovely.
The most disappointing aspect was the bar-very inattentive and a bit brusque.
As my son is a bartender, I know the stress of that job, but also how it should be done...Friday night was not done properly!
Given that experience, I would NOT recommend sitting/eating at the bar.
From the moment we entered the a little out of the way restaurant we were treated warm friendly and professionally by all of the staff. We sat far from the open kitchen, a little quieter location but we were never ignored or left wanting of service. The wine list is excellent and extensive couple that with a very knowledgeable staff and wine selection was a most pleasant experience. We had several shared appetisers which were all very good particularly the pork pate’ . Main course were also excellent, stunning presentation and well balanced.
All and all a great dinner, in my opinion the best Harvard square has to offer.
Food was absolutely amazing, from first course to dessert. Our server couldn't seem to be bothered with us. Our very standard meal, without alcohol, somehow took over 2 hours. The server kept mentioning and apologizing for "the delay" yet everyone around us seemed to be moved through with no hassle. Our pear galette dessert took 30 minutes to arrive after ordering. The server apologized after 20 minutes of waiting, but it still took another 10 to arrive. This was not warm, so it couldn't have been baked fresh. It was a tart with some ice cream, so nothing requiring fresh making. Our server no explanation whatsoever for this inexplicable delay and no offer to compensate. All of the tables around us received their desserts within minutes of ordering. It's really sad when the service can really sour the enjoyment of a meal at an institution that really should be an occasion.
We were headed to the ART with my parents. The evening was a Christmas present for them. We reserved at Harvest because it is near the ART and we did not want them to have to walk far from dinner.
I was very pleased with our waitress and the food. It was delicious and we made it out in plenty of time to get to the theater in a relaxed manner.
We ordered the falafel sandwich for lunch, and strangely enough the falafel was the worst I ever had, greasy toasted bread, bland recipe, and chips out of bag, there was a spear of pickles with it, not at all the expected quality, we ended leaving half of it though we were famished
It was a great experience. The food was excellent (the duck on the menu was perfectly cooked and so tasty!); the service was top-notch (very efficient but not overbearing); the decor very attractive.
Plus it was very easy to have a conversation, as the noise level was quite low. A huge plus!!
We went there and ordered the Steak and Frites off the bar menu. I wonder why with such a great steak, why the french fries are not crunchy and crispy but rather limp and soggy. Maybe they can up the quality of the fries to match the steak which was nicely prepared, flame broiled to perfection and really excellent as was the salad.
Excellent all around. One of our party has severe allergies and the chef bent over backwards to accommodate. We eat out a lot with this person and I have never seen a chef do such an outstanding job in accommodating. Everything else was excellent: food, wine list and service.
I took a work colleague out to a business lunch here at harvest and found the food to be impressive as usual, I have been coming here for almost 20 years now. the waiter must have been new, as he was not very assured of anything on the menu, and the wait times for everything from drinks, to food, to dessert was unacceptably long. these things happen, but it was surprising that the service was slowed down so much, luckily we didn't have any afternoon appts so it was ok to have the meal run long. overall a good restaurant.
We have been eating at this restaurant since it opened. It has gone through many incarnations, all wonderful. However, this latest incarnation is by far at the top of the list. While the space has not changed much, making it a place you feel at home, the cuisine and the offerings have changed keeping pace with the times. Last night's experience was really tops. Our server was one we have enjoyed for years. Beverages were delicious. The food experience was outstanding as the presentation was eye candy and the food delicious. Happy to know I can eat there often as it is in my neighborhood.
This restaurant is very popular and has been for many years. Unfortunately, their reputation is exploited and their charges are out of line with the quality of the meal, which was good but not exceptional. We did have a special for new year's eve and expected a higher than normal cost, but the actual cost was unreasonably high. The ambience was fine, but, again, not exceptional in any way. We would not be inclined to return for a dinner. I have had lunches at The Harvest before, and might do so again after making a cost/benefit appraisal, since equal quality is widely available in Cambridge at more reasonable prices.
