Harry Gatos is a Pan-Asian bar and diner harking back to the golden era of '80s Asian eateries—the ones we all grew up with and loved. We’re having fun with our food and drinks menu, taking the classics we know and love and peppering in some Australian natives to bring it all home. With bold flavours, playful twists, killer cocktails, tap beer, and a curated wine list, Harry Gatos is the perfect spot to share a feast, have a few drinks, or just a good time after a paddle at Freshie Beach.

We went for my daughter's birthday, and for a cold, wet winter's night, it was busy. It is small but has a lovely ambience. The staff were very friendly and the food was excellent. We will definitely be back!

Food could have been better. Timing of food coming out a bit slow, also food was not generous not hitting the flavour notes, a bit underwhelming. Staff friendly and attentive. Ambience good.

Your food was delicious & service very good. My only complaint is the wine by the glass for $17.90 was definitely overpriced for the money paid. You definitely have to be more generous in amount of wine per glass if Charing that price. Other than that , as I have said food fabulous & staff great. Thanks Juli

We were there on a Wednesday evening when they have the special $15 Ramen - It was fabulous and a very generous portion. Will definately go back another night.

The experience was ok but there was no suggestions or recommendations on dishes from staff. The curry was lovely but needed steamed rice and the only rice available was fried which had too many flavors to compliment the dish. Same w the Mongolian lamb. We thought it was supposed to be a dumpling place but there was only 1 dumpling on the recipe. It did need some sort of greens on the menu too. It felt more like a place you go to for a nibble w a drink rather than dinner.

We do offer steamed rice, and we’ll be working with staff to ensure they communicate this better. You’re right that we’ve been labeled as a ‘dumpling house,’ which isn’t quite accurate—we’re a pan-Asian restaurant, and we’re working on updating that description. We had a booking for six, but when we arrived, they only had a table for four and told us someone had given our table away—even though we had booked in advance. Instead of properly accommodating us, they squeezed us onto a small end bar table that was really only meant for two, making the entire meal uncomfortable. The ordering system was frustrating and inconsistent—you could use a QR code or order through table service, but it wasn’t clear which was preferred. On top of that, no one checked on us throughout the meal. We weren’t offered more drinks, food, or even water, and the staff seemed disorganized and inattentive. For a restaurant that serves mostly sharing plates, it was surprising that they didn’t automatically provide cutlery or side plates. We also had to sit with empty dishes piling up on the table because no one cleared them, leaving us with barely any space. The food itself was fine but the poor service and lack of attention to detail made the overall experience disappointing. Unfortunately, we wouldn’t return.

Our communal tables with trees through the middle are designed to create a shared dining atmosphere, but we understand this may not have been clear. We’ll work on improving how we communicate seating arrangements to ensure guests feel comfortable.
