Harris' Ratings and Reviews
Definitely one of the finest beef I've ever had. And the wine list is truly impressive. I also appreciated that the table I booked on Saturday evening was ready within minutes of our party showing up. We didn't even have enough time to finish our beer at the bar before being seated. And the service was really very professional. Great advice, pleasantly given.
Haven’t been here in years. Celebrated our son’s birthday. They were accommodating to change our reservation time and party size last minute. Service was slow because we had one waiter (who didn’t even introduce himself) covering 7 tables of 6+ guests. We waited 45 mins before even getting to order our appetizers and entree. It seemed like the staff paid more attention to the tables with all adults who surprisingly were louder than our kids. Knowing how friendly and attentive the service was on our last visit this was very different and not to par. The food was still good, from the steaks (my favorite the Rossini) to our childrens’ kids’s plates.
Harris' is a basic stop for our family in San Francisco. Harris' has the style and decor of a classic restaurant from the San Francisco of a decade before - piano bar, rolled leather tufted button chairs and booths, well dressed staff, attention to every detail --- the kind of place you really don't want to leave.
I have to give credit for the host and all the other people that helped us when we arrived. We had a later reservation but got there right when they opened and they accommodated. So it started off great but once we sat and had our server it went straight down hill. The server was rude the steak was way over cooked which he kept asking me to cut into as if i had never eaten a steak before and he almost forgot we were celebrating a birthday and I reminded him twice. The city has many wonderful steak houses and thats where we will take our business. The host and bartender were wonderful thank you for being so nice and accommodating.
We had a party of 7 and spent $1,700 on a business dinnner last week. The waiter acted like he didn't want to be there and not attentive at all! He did not greet us well, nor did he inform us of what the restaurant was know for!
The food was very good, but for the $$$$ price, we will not recommend nor attend this restaurant again. We even mentioned this to the Manager, and he too acted like he didn't care.
Each of our entrees were superb. Mouthwatering steaks, cooked as requested. Mushroom soup was best Ive had. And they served a sweet cupcake on a Happy Birthday plate.
CON: Wait staff were pretentious when asked the price of specials, put off about it. The reply was sort of "I dont know, its about $XXX," without being definitive. As if, why are you asking? Ive never had such a response elsewhere when inquiring about price.
Overall, from the host, to the bar, and through dinner, no staff member was friendly, with one exception: the man who cleared and reset our table.
My only recommendation is, set the snobbery aside, it doesnt resonate well.
This place never fails. Always consistent high quality food & service. Best steakhouse in San Francisco. Offers a true Cesar salad! We had some confusion over side order & what vegetables came with dinner and they comped us the side dish without us asking. Staff was also very kid friendly.
Love Harris'. Petit Filet and Peppercorn steaks were cooked to perfection. Our waitperson was great. Only complaint - and I have never had reason to complain about Harris - was one of the hostesses. I've never seen her before, think she's new. She sat a couple, whom she evidently knew, in the booth next to us and proceeded to chat with them for at least ten minutes. Meanwhile, she's leaning her hand on the booth so that my husband and I had her hand in our face the whole time she's chit chatting. Incredibly unprofessional and not up to Harris' standards.
The experience was great. The service was very good and no waiting. We had a drink at the bar afterward. Very high class.
But, they said there was a dress code. Not enforced. Maybe one third had at least a jacket. Most did not. Lots of shirts tails and jeans!
Every aspect of the experience was 5-star. Beautiful dining room that offers elegant modern ambiance with a nod to the 19th century. Wonderful, well-trained waitstaff. Everyone warm and polished. Delicious food. A classic steakhouse menu. This is not a place for vegetarian or vegan dining.
I come here every year for my birthday. I had my friend's kid join me. An adorable almost two year old girl. The staff there policed us on her behavior several times and put a damper on the experience. We came at 5.30 pm when the place was empty and they still policed us. So I think I will no longer return.
Food is amazing- we both had the Filet and we split a lobster. The lobster was amazing. The filet was delicious, but not as good as the last time I went. The butter wouldn’t melt on the top, the flavor of the steak didn’t wow me like the last time we went. I had the Baked Alaska, it was banana, I asked for no nuts which was a good choice, I wished I had asked for no hot fudge. The chocolate overpowered the banana ice cream and vanilla cake. A little caramel would’ve been better or nothing at all because that banana ice cream inside is binge worthy! Seriously delicious! Overall, the atmosphere is super stuffy. I wish they had a little bit of a “lighter”, “happier” atmosphere. The guy at the front (host) who looks like Jimmy Kimmel needs to smile once in a while....
Your restaurant can be fancy and FUN!!! What?! Yup, it’s true....
Overall experience was excellent (value , food and service). Our waiter was very helpful and friendly. Prime rib was tasty along with the scallop potatoes and creamed spinach. We didn't care too much for the host. He seemed a bit stuffy and wasn't very welcoming. Going forward, we will definitely come back.
The service staff are all attentive and understand good customer service. Service is a little bit slow but maybe because the restaurant is full. But all in all the experience was good. We will go back there for sure.
By the way, is the owner of Harris Steakhouse the same owner of Harris Ranch in Coalinga, CA?
Another question, how many points did I get for using Open Table ? How many points do I have now since I used Open Table?
We had dinner with whole family two years ago for my husband’s birthday. Food was so delicious and perfectly prepared that we couldn’t wait to come to SF and try it again. This time we ordered exactly the same thing but we were disappointed in flavor and predation of the filets.
It was my 50th birthday celebration. Walked in and immediately they brought us to the back and we did not like the room they put us in. It was quiet and subdued and we knew we were going to drink and laugh and have fun so we asked to be moved to another table in the main dining area. Right away the maitre d had an attitude and said he's have to check. He came back with a grimace on his face and said yes they could move us to another table. The table was a booth in the main room. We were much happier there. Ordered a bottle of Far Nienty Cab which we were really looking forward to since our Napa tour was cancelled due to the horrific fire there and we were not able to visit this winery on the trip. The bottle arrived and we started drinking it. Then a few moments later we looked at the bottle closely to examine the label and no where on the bottle did it say FAR NIENTY. It was a completely different bottle of wine!!!!!!!!. We asked to speak to the Somalier who happened to be the one who sat us. Oh boy, he had such an attitude and began to tell us that Yes it IS by Far Nienty. It's a wine BY them at a different vineyard that is not theirs. We couldn't believe they listed it in the menu as FAR NIENTY but it wasn't. We let him know we were not happy and he said "its a great wine so enjoy it!" By that time half the bottle was gone. We were just so upset by that point. We let the rest sit on the table and we asked to have the head manager come by at the end of dinner. Food was not good. My KOBE steak was chewy and not seasoned well. It was a let down all the way around. The manager did come by at the end of the dinner and let us know how sorry she was that they misrepresented the wine and took it off the bill. Would I ever go back? I would say yes if the food was good but believe it or not, we had a better dinner at ORIGINAL JOES's in San Francisco and the wine there was half the price for the same quality!
