Whenever I travel to the states I already have a reservation at the best steakhouse in the area. For San Francisco, that's Harris'. EVERYTHING is perfect, except for the Dark chocolate Blondie for dessert; that's a little bit better than perfect. I ate at the bar to be closer to the live jazz which made a great meal better.
This is a classic Steakhouse for a classic Steakhouse event adult not a big tourist spot enjoy a nice leisurely dinner you bring your own wine for a corking fee of $30 that's a fair deal good location on Van Ness
Anniversary dinner .. was very wonderful
The environment is cozy. Service was professional. The steak was out of this world.
The other restaurants do something special for the graduates but this restaurant did nothing. We been to similar ones like House of Prime Rib, Ruth Chris.
My husband and I celebrated our 60th wedding anniversary.
Our wonderful waitress was so very friendly and accomadationg
I found my meat rather tough. I sent it back as it wasn’t cooked enough, and they sent me back a smaller but much better cut of meat. Very nice.
Restaurant was a fantastic slice of old SF to take a significant other on a romantic date. I had mentioned through the reservation app that it was for a birthday not expecting anything. Was a pleasant surprise when my girlfriend was surprise with a little birthday cake to top off a fantastic night.
Always a great time at Harris's - Never disappointing and always enjoyed by all.
Leave very full and well taken care of
Every everything was great
My family loves this restaurant, and I’ve been here a few times. I brought my boyfriend here for his first time on his birthday. I requested a booth and envisioned one of those beautiful round booths for our romantic dinner setting. They brought us to one of the tiny little tables on the side - they were kinda booth-like, so I didn’t ask for a better table. We were about halfway through dinner when I noticed they were sitting other couples in the beautiful larger booths. It got under my skin because we are quiet and I’m hard of hearing - it was louder in the area we were seated.
In any event, everything else was amazing! We skipped appetizers and ordered the lobster Mac & Cheese. It was very tasty and I would order it again, but there didn’t seem to be much lobster in it. I then went for my usual filet mignon, which was perfectly cooked. Boyfriend ordered the Prime Rib and was very impressed with it, although he didn’t care much for the creamy spinach side. We both got scalloped potatoes and totally loved them. For dessert, we had the dark chocolate butterscotch blondie. It was delightful, but the blondie was very sweet. I could have just had the espresso ice cream with magic shell, cookie crumbles and butterscotch drizzle and been just as happy.
Old fashioned style of eating- all about meat. Salads too heavily and cloyingly dressed.
Atmosphere is terrific- service also shines.
We have enjoyed this restaurant for many years. The service is second to none and the steaks are the best! This last visit was a birthday celebration for my son. It was memorable to say the least . The wine, a Keenan cab, was excellent. I can't say enough about the level of service you receive from the moment you arrive. Just a wonderful place for a special occasion.
I have been going to Harris' for 40 years. It's never been anything but wonderful. One of my favorite restaurants.
California is not known for steak houses-but what an exception here!! Loved every bite. The atmosphere is western chic an lovely. Could not praise more highly.--loved loved it!
Harris's is a very good place to meet for dinner or lunch. The ambience reminds one of SF of an earlier time. A group of us will meet there once a month for business; it is centrally located for people coming from the Peninisula, East Bay or North Bay. One goes there for the meat options
My parents, my boyfriend and I went to this place for dinner. although we all have different needs and focus on food, every one was happy and satisfied by harris. Their tartar was delicious and well season. The onion soup was classic and super delicious, every bite made me happy (although I wish there was cheese in the soup, I still love it). the steak was amazing !!!!
We also had a pretty reasonable restaurant price wine (not cheap but regular price you see in the restaurant) , and it fit our steak perfectly.
Even though we were so full after the steak, we still got the dessert for the happy ending. We had chocolate warm cake.. and it was a stunning happy ending.
Also, the service was great. Friendly and professional
Overall, it is a great dinner. we came for a special occasion, we are satisfied about what we paid.
Excellent meal and even better service. Attentive without being obtrusive.
Not the best, but decent for a steak dinner. Staff was great- we sat in the bar area and there was music playing. Filet was on the the thin side but still tasty. There were some incredibly loud children dancing and singing to the music. Not what you want when spending 2-3 hundred bucks on dinner.
Great food and atmosphere but really strange service. Our waitress started off taking drink orders from 3 people and then skipped the 4th and we had to call her back. She took appetizer orders from 2 people and then started walking away. She took entree orders from all of us but we had to stop her and tell her sauces we wanted and some additional items. She didn't seem busy or anything but just very inattentive and uncaring.
Best au gratin potatoes ever.
Top notch service and amazing mouthwatering food! Paired with wonderful wine from their wine list made the dining experience complete.
Wow. A fabulous celebratory evening. Timing was perfect as the restaurant was not packed.
We loved our server Michael G. He was very attentive.
Our daughter said we must have the lobster Mac n’cheese : incredible
The meat selection we had was served perfectly!!
Our daughter had dinner here last month and insisted that we take her there for her birthday dinner.
Special evening - we look forward to our next meal.
Aim from Scotland and we produce some off the best beef in world, but what I had to eat that night came very very close to Scotland's finest can I thank all the staff for a wonderful meal and wish you all the very best for the years to come Gerry Pearson
Our family of four enjoyed our dinner. We were looked after extremely well by our waiter. The wine list was indeed exhaustive. And the steaks were simply grand.
The book was very good but they did not acknowledge the note that we were there to celebrate a birthday which was disappointing. We were also stuck on a small end cap book.
The food was delicious, the service was outstanding. I made a reservation for my boyfriends birthday and our parents. All generations loved this place. My parents 60th wedding anniversary is coming up and most likely we will have it here. Thank you for a amazing night.
Food was very good and service was timely. Only downside was it was a little chilly.
The food and the presentation was incredible!!!
Epic dry aged steaks in classic but classy steakhouse.
Best steak restaurant in the city!!! Worth the drive. Why would anyone eat prime rib any where else in the city???
Wonderful steaks but also poached salmon with champagne sauce!
Overall my experience was great!!! However, for being a steakhouse my steak was overcooked.....When brought to the attention to my Waiter, He quickly took care of meal.....Unfortunately, i was eating my steak when my dinner date was finished with his meal.....Many steakhouses in SF....I may reconsider a quick visit...
05/06/18 29th wedding anniversary
The food was pretty good. That’s the only positive thing I have to say about my experience.
The host was incredibly unpleasant. He didn’t smile the entire time we were at the restaurant. Not a good first impression to say the least. The server did a fine job as did the drink runner. The food runner was rude and unpleasant and added to an already lackluster dining experience. I don’t expect the royal treatment when I dine out, but if I’m paying $300 for dinner at least pretend to be welcoming and pretend that you like your job. I’ll stick to Bobo’s from now on.
Birthday dinner. Great service!! My prime rib wasn't too good - dry and not very flavorful. The others I was with got the filets, which they thought were very good.
Good, service and atmosphere were outstanding
Old school San Francisco feel which was great. Expensive but worth it
Excellent service and professional staff all around. In terms of food, the steak was good and cooked well. However, I have to ding points for not having great cutlery for bone-in steaks. A steakhouse should definitely invest in having a knives of all types, as they may have guests who request other knives. Having a clean cut adds a lot of value to the flavor of the steak.
Felt rushed to leave
I really love this place and try to go anytime I'm in San Francisco. The steaks and sides are wonderful, the drinks are excellent, and the general atmosphere makes it easy to have a conversation (tables are well spaced). The service is also excellent and very professional.
