Harlowe MXM Ratings and Reviews
I was expecting the food at Harlowe to be good, knowing that it's owned by the people who have Bread Winners and Henry's Majestic. But I was not prepared to by wowed by each plate that came from the kitchen. The food was gorgeous and every bite was complex, full of flavor.
It was an exceptional meal.
This is an amazing gem in Deep Ellum. The food was amazing, and if Harlowe MXM was in another neighborhood you would never be able to get in because it is THAT good.
tonight's special's included a butternut squash soup with fried oysters and lardons - amazing soup for a cold evening. The noodle special - homemade noodles with a tomato based sauce, light and very tasty. Fish special was a grilled redfish with a corn/black eye pea medly and shaved vegetables. Tri Tip was tender and cooked just right with roasted potatoes. The flavors and textures were well thought out and wonderful.
Desserts were equally wonderful - their own take on somemores - a chocolate filled marshmallow with cinnamon graham bites, lemon bars with blueberries, and a pear flan (with rosettes made of thin slices of pear). All were wonderful.
We will be back.
We had the BEST dinner! Love this place! Artichoke appetizer was delicious - so were the chorizo churros. Yummy butternut squash soup too! Entrees we ordered were the pasta (daily special), the charred prawns, fish & tri tip - everyone loved their entree! It was my husbands bday so they brought us a complimentary dessert. We will definitely be back!
We booked a reservation on Open Table only to be told when we arrived that they really didn't have a table. The hostess said we could sit outside if we liked. I asked if there were heat lamps as it was pretty cold. The hostess said well others are outside and seem fine. The others apparently all had jackets because we were freezing. The food was average but the prices were higher than average. Bottom line is they really need to honor reservations, after all that is the point of them. Nevertheless, they can have my future tables.
We had brunch there and it was a good experience overall. I love the look of the place retro-chic. Hostess was very friendly and welcoming and great waitress. Brunch menu reads fancy and on the pricier side and limited needs more recognizable items to choose from. I was not impressed with my meal and had to send back some potatoe item I ordered that had a very unpleasant taste that is indescribable and my friend ordered that item too in hated it. The best part of the whole experience for me was the company I was in and their mimosa bar that had unlimited fresh fruit and juice that you can help yourself to. My would return to try their dinner and the rooftop experience but I won't be bunching there.
Decided to try out Harlowe for a girls Brunch. Our waiter Wille was super sweet and very accommodating to all our requests. It’s got great atmosphere and their courtyard area is cute and allows for a more intimate setting. The brunch menu allowed for each of us to find something to go along with the sparkle bar. Their was no rush to get us through our meal and truly enjoy the great weather, company and conversation.
This is quite possibly the best meal I've had in a very long time. Charred shrimp, Tri tip steak, and the fish special just blew us away. The music in this restaurant is EXTREMELY loud, but the atmosphere is energetic and it was Saturday night so it didn't bother us too much. Service needs work....but the quality, layers of flavor, and creativity in each dish made up for the shortcomings.
The staff makes this restaurant/bar more enjoyable. The food is ok, not great, but good. But the staff is super friendly and accommodating. They also have a unique selection of prepared drinks on tap- great idea! I think maybe it’s more of a bar than a restaurant... which is ok, i was just expecting the food to be better. I will be going back to enjoy the upstairs bar - it has a fab view of downtown.
Went out to eat with my girlfriend, we got a drink at the rooftop bar before sitting for dinner. Rooftop had an great view of the city and of other nearby rooftops. Drinks were made well and the bar had the perfect ambience (also nicely furnished). For dinner, we shared the lamb as an appetizer, she got the lobster roll, and I had the burger, finished everything with the campfire s'more dessert. Everything was absolutely delicious, we raved over the lamb and both our respective entrées. Dessert was a great take on a campfire classic. The whole staff (not only our waitress) was very attentive and very friendly. The music they played was perfect (r&b lounge with good beats and friendly rap), it was on moderately loud, which my gf loved since the playlist was quality. All in all, it was a perfect dining experience which made for a wonderful date. Will definitely be going back.
Upon arrival, we were asked to go to the bar or rooftop deck despite having a reservation as they weren't ready for us. The chorizo churro was very salty and the cheese pairing was incredibly heavy and greasy. The music was too loud, therefore the diners were practically yelling. The noodle of the day was basic, the best thing that we ordered were the raw oysters...
I got the burger w/fries, husband got the whole lobster. We also got the calamari 2 way ,and charred prawns appetizers. All 4 were awful, and so was the service. Waiter never checked on anything, the lobster was way undercooked, yes "under" cooked w/gelatinous, runny gross texture , and my burger which I ordered medium rare came out over cooked &well done. The calamari appetizer wasn't anything special and had maybe one ounce of calamari in it. The charred prawn was also undercooked , meat inside was still gray with gelatinous texture, gross. I m sitting here writing this hoping that we are not going to get ill from eating this undercooked shellfish tonight. This place serves unsafe food.
The service was terrible. Very slow, he got the drink order wrong... this was after we said yes to his wine selection and he brought a mixed drink, then charged us for a different mixed drink (which was sent back). We talked to the hostess about it and the waiter came by and told us that because we complained about him he was going to be fired. The manager came by but didn't adjust the bill. It was an awful experience.
