Harlan Social Ratings and Reviews
We've been to this restaurant before and loved it. This time, we waited almost an hour for our food and when it did finally arrive, one of the orders was incorrect. We had multiple managers come over to our table and apologize, but didn't do anything to rectify the situate. I expected to have the incorrect order removed from our bill, but that did not happen. I noticed the table next to us also had issues, with long wait times and incorrect orders, so the issue may have been the specific waitress as she was the server for both tables. This negative experience is a shame, because the food is fantastic. But unfortunately, because of this awful experience, despite the great food, we will not be returning to this restaurant.
First time dining at Harlan Social and were pleasantly surprised. Menu was interesting and delicious. While the restaurant was filled, the energy was positive. Food was good - but kitchen was a bit behind. Appetizers came out quickly, but waited a bit long for dinner. All worth the wait, by the way. Will definitely come back.
Harlan Social has been on our regular restaurant rotation for awhile now, dining there about every 6-8 weeks. Always have appreciated the variety of the menu and interesting dishes, however dining there a week ago things just seemed off. My snapper (as recco'd by our server) was dry and flavor was lacking. My boyfriends scallops were a huge disappointment, a dish he always gets when on the menu. The 4 scallops were SMALL, slightly larger than the a size of a quarter and were way over cooked. It was hard to justify the $30+ price when there wasn't much on the plate. Service wasn't as attentive as normal, no greetings by the manager that night. I hope we just experienced an off night, but for sure will take this off the list for awhile.
It's taken me a while to get to Harlan Social-- and I regret this immensely. Atmosphere is great-- sitting in a booth is especially romantic. Bar scene is very casual and relaxed-- the feel is very different from downtown Stamford where many restaurants bars have a tense vibe, people competing for space, ect. Food is incredible I would recommend the rock shrimp tempura, chicken wings, and potato chips with bleu cheese. We haven't even made it past the appetizers list because they're great to share with groups. Service is great. Beer list/wine list has something for everyone. Harlan Social is a great casual scene, upscale food is really well-done, service has never been an issue. Highly Recommend.
We were surprised to see that the hamburger was the most popular item. However, after ordering the $28.00 duck (that came with no sides), I can understand why. Do you want mashed potatoes? Extra. Do you want a vegetable? Extra. Just add them to the dinner and charge more so that I don't feel gouged. So…. the $17 burger may be your best option. Just be sure that it come with fries.
We went here for dinner on a Tuesday night. The food was fantastic. Rick shrimp is a must! Great ambiance, loved the round booths. Checked out the bar scene for another day and it was vibrant for a Tuesday for sure! Looks like fun! Too cold for dinner outside, but definitely another day.
Close to train station . Are outside which was just ok ... Overlooks a grocery store parking lot. Food is ok nothing special. Portions are small with a nice presentation but for the price, they should offer bread or something to start you off. We ordered apps. we were meeting our daughter from NYC ( we had an 1 and 1/2 hr drive from central CT).... It was a long way to come for a par dining experience.
I have been to Harlan a lot and love the place. The food however is hit or miss. Lunch is always awesome, great burger and chicken sandwich. Salads are awesome but the main entrees for dinner are all just fair. The chicken is not good, and that should be the easiest thing to make. I hope the chef figures something out, this place is great and I would love the food to be better. Otherwise it will only be a brunch/lunch/bar spot for me, never to eat dinner.
We had a Mother's Day brunch and the service was right on target. The food was delicious.
Although, we decided we needed to pick up a few items at Fairway, the only negative is that the nice outdoor dining terrace has a view of a supermarket. Inside, there is ambiance.
This was our second time at HS. We sat in the banquette in the bar area, which is highly preferable to the main dining room which is unbearably noisy. It's a great place for a burger, piece of fish, etc., but the service was slow (however attentive when he was there) and that impacted our experience.
I called on a Saturday originally for a reservation of 4 but soon had to add on 3. Although the 8:30 reservation we were first given, was now not available, 9:30 for a party of 7 was. We first sat at the beautiful bar area with the option of ordering appetizers while we waited. The manager/host was extremely helpful in making our wait as comfortable as possible, even offering to exchange our stools with backs! He even offered to give a discount on our dinner bill which was very generous! Before we knew it, after our appetizers, our table in the dining room had opened up. It was perfect, this way we were able to place our entrée orders and enjoy our delicious meals!!
Harlan Social is busting with activity-- groups, singles, couples--in a high-energy spot in a trendy new neighborhood. Drinks abound with a moderate-level wine list. Food is good and comes in appetizer, small plates, mozzarella starters and, of course, main courses. Choices abound for meat lovers or vegetarians. Service is good and not over-bearing. Right next to Fairway!
Mixed vegetable salad with an apple cider vinaigrette dressing, burrata with tapenade, duck breast, seared scallop on pork and mushroom risotto, and rack of lamb with spaetzle were savory, delicious and prepared just as they should be. The restaurant atmosphere is very relaxed. There are no table cloths which add to the relaxed feel but the tables are large, the space is very clean and modern and you can be comfortable in jeans or a tie. The service is professional, efficient and very pleasant....everything happens with a smile. The wine list is reasonably priced and has some interesting selections that demonstrate that Steve, the wine director, took some real time and thought putting it together.
This is our third time dining here, we like the food, but always are underwhelmed with the experience., Everything is always pretty good, but not amazing. Sometimes it is the presentation, for example the rock shrimp app., is great in the beginning, but because of the way it is dressed and served in a bowl, the bottom layer is soggy and a disappointment. If the serving dish was adjusted to a plate, this could be amazing. Or the tuna tartar is very delicious, but the spicy flavor is just a tad over-powering making it so the flavor of the tuna is getting masked. So all the food is tasty, just could use some tweaks to make it amazing.
This is the second time that I had an outstanding dining experience at the Harlan Social. The small plate,of Roasted Lamb Barbacoa tacos, was filled with wonderfully seasoned, succulent lamb in a delicate sauce. The Spicy Tuna Tartare appetizer just burst with flavor. On my two visits to the Harlan I've thoroughly enjoyed delicious entrees;the Grilled Long Island Duck and the Seared Sea Scallops. I can honestly say that I didn't have high hopes,on my first visit, that the dessert course would stay on a par with the outstanding courses that preceded it but my first mouthwatering bite into the heavenly Pumpkin Cheesecake (with the warm bourbon pecan sauce) made me realize ...I underestimated the talent of the chef and his skillful team.
Always wanted to come here and finally reserved a table this past Saturday night during prime seating. Restaurant was in full swing, crowded but not uncomfortably so. I like the noise level, loud but not screamer loud.
I really liked the tuna and octopus appytizers. The tuna was my favorite. I ordered the sea scallop and risotto, they were jumbo serious and bounced like a trampoline. The risotto was creamy. My ma ordered duck. Big brother ordered cavatelli. We ordered a rhubarb strawberry tart for big brother's birthday. Our server was very nice with curly hair, and belted out a tune even though he didn't have to, which forced me into the sing along which I didn't want to.
Really liked my meal, but why no candle sur ma table?
My husband & I have been to Harlan several times and were disappointed by the service & food quality. Maybe it was an "off" night but for a Saturday night, I was greatly disapppointed
We had to wait 15 minutes for a table even though we had a reservation
The server did not offer any specials, recommnedations or bread. In the past, the servers have been very helpful explaining the dishes & offering suggestions, we got none of that on this visit
When our food came, no one offered pepper for our dishes. Speaking of the food, the mac & cheese was bland. My husband said Kraft mac & cheese was better. He ordered a burger medium-rare and it was rare, almost raw
I hope this not a sign of things to come at Harlan
I think we've gone three times in the past month. It's our spot to meet other couples, bring my parents to brunch when their in town, or to grab dinner. I always plan on ordering the same thing because it's delish, but I end up leaving with new favorites. The hummus is to die for, they just need to serve it with more naan/pita. The ricotta cavatelli is out of this world. We were a little disappointed we were told we couldn't be seated upon arriving on time for our reservation. Once we were seated, there were numerous two tops and larger tables open. Regardless, it's not the type of thing to ruin my experience. I'm plotting a way to get there this week already...
