Harlan Social Ratings and Reviews
This is a nice place, nice atmosphere, but don't let them seat you near the window in the first table if you are there at night. Every time a car is driving toward the restaurant, in the busy Fairway parking lot, the lights glare in onto that table. It's awful. That being said, we had a lovely dinner with friends. Everyone enjoyed their meals, scallops, veal chop, salmon. All good.
First time at Harlan Social. The decor is great, gives you an modern/industrial feel. Staff were great and attentive. Food was very tasty but expensive and portions can be a little small for the healthy eaters out there.
I had the Ahi Tuna Poke, which is always a treat to find in an east coast restaurant. Having fallen in love with the dish in Hawaii, I was a little disappointed when I saw a small half-cup sized dish come out for $14. I could have bought a pound of poke in Hawaii for $14. It was incredibly tasty and really left me wanting more. The fried rice at the bottom resembled a hashbrown and didn't really belong in the dish but it offered a different texture.
Next up was the 10z grilled hanger steak, which was also awesome. Ordered medium rare and it came out perfect. Wife had the Veal chop, which was encrusted in almonds. The almonds gave it a nice subtle crunch while the chop was nice and juicy. Veal and pork sometimes comes out dry in restaurants, but not here.
They have booths and tables available. Booths are located in front of the bar so if you are interested in watching a game, you will have a good view. Tables are in the front of the restaurant and have a view of the outside area. Parking is ample as it shares the lot with Fairway supermarket.
My birthday dinner at Harlan Social was a great experience. The menu is broad and the food is fantastic. The decor is beautiful and isn't as loud as other Stamford restaurants, making it a good option for a family occasion. We always enjoy Harlan Social whenever we go.
We've been there before and had a nice, fun time. The service was friendly but he disappeared so many times. Gaps of no one helping out, the manager stepped in several times. It was clear that they were short handed. It happens...but it did affect our night. The food was good, but I can't say it was as good as it had been. All of our entrees were good but not great. The place was about 50% busy too...not like it was a super busy night.
The food was fantastic but we couldn't see it. We all needed to take out our phones to read the menu AND see our food! It wasn't embarrassing because everyone else did the same. The waitress even said that they've discussed it at meetings. So they should fix it. It was really ridiculous.
The initial server refused to serve my friend and I and only took the tables where the clientele was over the age of 50. However my friend and I ended up with a better server and ended up getting 3x the amount of drink and food as the other tables. There were 5 tables occupied all night.
The food was great but the service needs major help.
Very mixed experience. We arrived 30 minutes early and were told we could sit in the bar or "outside." I assumed that the main dining room wasn't open yet. The outside option was then revoked so we (happily) repaired to the bar. We were then informed that due to a wedding we couldn't actually eat in the dining room...but we could "take all the time we wanted" eating in the bar. The food was generally good -- especially the mussels -- and my daughter appreciated the "all you can drink" Bloody Mary option. The waiter (who was actually the bartender) began to buzz our table with increasing frequency, then shared his life story and how late he was going to have to work because of the wedding -- all in an effort to hasten us out the door. Irritated, I dragged my feet because we HAD A RESERVATION that they could have cancelled. OTOH the bartender did comp my mother, who was celebrating her 80th b-day, a glass of wine. And as I said the food and drink are good...so you be the judge.
This has been my go to place . The only real criticism I have is I found out that they change menu items seasonally.
So if you have a particular dish that you regularly order the ingredients could be different .
Otherwise good well prepared food . Also they should include sweet potato fries on the menu
Our waitress was awful. We asked her 2-3 times for lemons for our drinks. Never brought them. We ordered a bacon cheeseburger which when we got it was a cheeseburger with onions no bacon. We told her there was no bacon and she said we don't have bacon. I think k she should have mentioned that originally and why she substituted sautéed onions for bacon on a kids burger is beyond me. She was totally spaced out.
We had a lovely meal. The service was outstanding. They had an interesting cocktail list and we tried two different ones. (One each!) The salads we had were delicious but I think, perhaps, a bit expensive. Nevertheless, we had a very enjoyable time and would definitely return and recommend.
