Harbor Lights Tacoma
Everything was ok. Thanks very much.
For a great, classic waterfront dining experience Harbor Lights did not disappoint. Reservation was on time, price was reasonable and the food was great. Above all, service gets the top spot. My family has had many "less-than-positive" experience with other venues in these past 2 years but Harbor Lights will be memorable based on the service alone. Nothing spectacular, it didn't need to be. Just attentive, clean, friendly, helpful and available. Next area dining we will contact Harbor Lights without a question!
A very enjoyable experience with quality food profiles.
The description of the food on the menu is deceptive. The shrimp cocktail is actually a shrimp salad. Some things are great like the crab dip while others are terrible such as my over cooked and rubbery shrimp scampi. The consistency between all 4 of our dishes was all over the place. We will never go back for the averageness this resturant radiates.
Always a favorite stop at the Tacoma waterfront. The menu offers a nice selection. Too bad dungeness crab and other shellfish are in short supply at this time. I really like their Dungeness crab leg sections sauted to perfection.
Ate outside on the deck at noon, perfect 73 degree weather, view of the Puget Sound; quick, efficient service including a request to have a perfectly cooked trout "revised" a bit from the menu (blackened on the menu, came without the spices...perfection). Slightly sweet rice pilaf was a great accompaniment.
My guest was also quickly accomodated, excellent fresh seafood, water kept coming without asking.
Great food, great service, very reasonable prices.
Harbor Lights has been on the waterfront since 1952 (and has that same 1950's look and feel), a throw-back. You don't stick around that long unless you are doing a lot of things right....and they are.
Personally i didn't like the Clam Chowder it was the worse i ever had!!!
Reservation on time, courteous staff, delicious food, good size portions and food hot when arrived at table (butter melted as it should on the baked potato which we really appreciated.) Terrific view of beautiful Puget Sound from every table. Wonderful experience overall.
Attentive service, great food, with a greaet view!
Great service, food was good but a little less butter on the green beans would have been better. Also, it would be great if the starter salad was included instead of ala carte. Price would then seem more reasonable.
Sockeye salmon and oysters were delicious.
Table was ready for our reservation and the server was great!!
Server was not very attentive. Other than that, my girlfriend and I had an excellent date night there. The sunset was beautiful and the scenery we loved. I do highly recommend this restaurant.
Always good food and great service. We will be returning again. We recommend this as an excellent place to dine.
Food prices where high for what you got. We had steak and to add shrimp it was a additional $9.00 and all you got where two little shrimps. Service was ok only came to check on us twice. We have always loved to eat there but i feel it will be a long time before we go back.
We have been going to Harbor Lights for 40+ years, we will always love this restaurant!
Food and drinks are constantly good, along with service.
Very nice, small restaurant on the water, with beautiful views. Portions were just right and tasty. A friend had recommended the "crab paws" from a visit a while ago but those weren't available. Seating outside, which we should have taken. We were seated inside (which we asked for) but in a small area with a very large, loud group. That made it difficult to hold a conversation.
We had reservations for our anniversary. They were out of crab, oysters, and clams. The restaurant was very loud, the service was mediocre, and the interior was pretty rundown. All of this would've been totally fine, but the price point of the restaurant suggested a finer dining experience. The food was okay, steak and prawns were overdone.
One of our favorite restaurants on the sound. Always great food an excellent service. 😌
The menu was very small which is understandable. However, the portions were very small. The seafood mac and cheese was watery and everything needed seasoning. The baked potato with the scampi was over cooked. The server was wonderful and very nice and efficient.
Very Limited Menu for a Seafood restuarant. No oysters and No prawn shrimp cocktail. Even clam chowder was not traditional white or red! No bread available etc. I will not be back. The food was OK...just very disappointed that this was not a great fish restuarant.
They reserved a wonderful corner table for us. The clam broth chowder was an unexpected surprise, and delicious! The trout was perfect and the green beans were flavorful, nicely crisp and not overcooked.
The food was awful, couldn’t cut the green beans with a steak knife, steak was equally as tough. The noise level was so loud we couldn’t even hear each other at our table. So not worth it for the prices.
Awesome pan fried Oysters,my MIL loved them. Great service and view. More of a family style, comfortable.
The fried oysters were outstanding. Great portion and taste. The prawns were bland and not worth the money.
Great food. Server was awesome and the setting outside was great!
Good seafood and service in a charming old-school setting, but menu was quite limited and they were out of what we wanted.
It was a great visit with friends and our server was awesome.
View was fantastic, food was very good. We had a reservation for 4:30 and they were out of several items on a very limited menu.
Crab was one of the items we were most looking forward to but the delivery was going to be the following day.
We were celebrating a special occasion and I had contacted the restaurant ahead of time asking for a great spot to sit. We were a bit disappointed finding dirty water glasses on the table and two dead flies in the windowsill of the corner table we were seated at.
I brought a special cake to be presented after our meal but the waiter never took it from the table, we ended up bringing back home with us.
I guess our expectations were to high for this “Landmark Restaurant” of Tacoma. Dinner was very good but our waiter was very slow in returning with extra condiments that were requested.
It was ok for a local spot nothing fancy. The drinks were very good.
Had a nice dinner, Harbor Lights has always been my favorite restaurant, but the server didn't do much and wasn't very attentive, she was nice but didn't pick up the dishes passed by our table many times and it wasn't very busy.
We ordered dessert to go and the portions were so small it literally was only 3 bites, that was very disappointing. The food though was amazing as always and me and my husband had a wonderful date night.
Would highly recommend! Staff is very friendly and attentive. The Halibut was lightly seared and grilled till just done. The fish and chips were very good also.
We had not been there since start of pandemic- we were seated next to window snd able to enjoy the scenery- saw a heron and a few other bird species. We had not been together for over a year- very pleasant luncheon.
Friendly staff make this older place continue to be a great spot. Food is very good and the views of Puget Sound amazing
We’re regulars and generally always have good food and great service…last nights food was not so great! The fish was thin and so overdone/fried, it was chewy. The shrimp was also over fried but was mediocre. Tessa we love, so no issues with service, just food. 😕
Very nice service and food! Perfect place for a date
So glad that dining is open again. We have missed going to Harbor Lights. Love this place.
Wasn’t the best. We have been there before ages times before and have always received great food and service. Not so much this time.
Harbor Lights is very dated. The food, decor, and general vibe of the place reflects that. I'm sure it does well with elderly folks (which is great since there are many living in the area nearby) and it looks like the bar attracts a good number of people as well.
Excellent views with great food! The calamari appetizer was amazing. Only thing is the menu is limited but what is there is amazing. Will be back.
