About Hapa Sushi Grill & Sake Bar - Pearl St. Boulder

The name Hapa is derived from the Hawaiian term that describes a harmonious blend of Asian and American cultures. Like our name, our food reflects this dynamic combination. The menu is based on traditional Japanese cooking fundamentals which are then amplified, muted, or mixed with influences from many different styles of cooking until they are something completely new: they're Hapa. We have stretched the boundaries of creativity to develop dishes that defy all the rules while holding true to our roots. We hope that you will find our menu innovative, uninhibited, and distinctly fun! Incomplete parties will not be sat until complete.

This place is always reliable and a step above the run of the mill sushi, although not top tiere. Staff is wonderful and service is speedy. Loud and crowded on weekend nights - seating under the heat lamps on a not too cold night may be an option. The restaurant feels shoe horned into the property so you get to know the folks sitting near you even when you don’t want to. Booked through Open Table and it’s worth the crowd.

Sushi was incredibly good, as always. Service was great! Equally impressive was the great attitude of our waiter when we had to cancel dessert in order to depart quickly with the 4 year old, who was ready to go!!!

Food was really fresh. Jury was out because Sushi in Boulder was a ? ...Boulder being landlocked. Definitely recommend Hapa Sushi.
Staff , food and service was great. Thanks to Troy for the amazing appetizers! New York standards met!

I had dinner here with my husband and 2 sisters. It was a busy Friday night so even with reservations we had to wait about 10-15 minutes for our table. Because of this they offered us complimentary edamame. They also have a back bar area that is perfect for a cocktail while you wait. There is a wide variety of menu options for every type of person/diet, whether you are gluten free or vegetarian or just do not eat sushi. I highly recommend the Hamachi Crunch roll and if you are interested in a handmade cocktail, the Spicy Enticer is great!

I had vegetable tempura and cucumber roll. They were both delicious. However, it was unbearably noisy and crowded and conversation was impossible. Now I know! I wouldn't go again or recommend it, at least for dinner.

Good food, had a reservation that wasn't really acknowledged, noted it was our anniversary and we got engaged and it was not mentioned. Service and staff was still excellent and food was very good!

We went with the vegetarian sushi, which seemed almost a shame given the beautiful traditional rolls being served. The dragon veggie roll was outstanding as was the cucumber roll, veggie goza and tempura

I was really glad we had reservations, as the place was packed and really hopping. We had a very short wait for our table, which we spent in the back bar snacking on complimentary edamame. We all agreed, this was the best sushi/sashimi any of have had in this area. The salads were also really fresh and delicious and the miso soup and mussels were incredible. We will certainly be back.

Hapa was great!! It can get a little crowded and loud, but it's all a part of the atmosphere! Service was prompt and unobtrusive. My friend and I were catching up prior to ordering and chatted for quite a while. Our server read our table really well and let us catch up before asking if we were ready to order. Food as always was fresh. Love Hapa!

Pretty good sushi. Not great, but pretty good. I wouldn't highly recommend. So many amazing restaurants in Boulder that far exceed Hapa.

I'm in total agreement with past reviews, food is great, it is loud but we were seated in quite corner, so it was ok.. but what is up with the hostesses... even my young daughter picked up on their not so welcoming attitude ...

Great service and kind to help me with disability. The tables are way too small for the food presented and made for awkward dining especially with children. Cramped tables and noisy. Call me old fashioned but I would go back only if there was more space and lower noise level.

My favority sushi restaurant in Boulder. Reasonable parking rates in the garage directly behind the restaurant. Delicious sashimi.

Love, love, love Hapa! Being on the patio is a treat when buskers are on Pearl St. and the weather is good. Inside can get a bit tight and noisy, but if you have a loud table, no one will notice! Food is great and waitstaff are friendly and knowledgeable.

Sushi wasn't the best I've had, but very good for the price. Service was excellent - our waiter Stephen was very knowledgeable and came by often despite the restaurant being so busy.

Our family of 4 loves Hapa. Our kids love to play with the origami paper, although several of the projects require scissors. Hapa always has delicious specials like the Easter Egg Roll from this past weekend.

Great food. We ate five different sushi rolls, three appetizers and three different deserts and everything was phenomenal. Waiter was super friendly and knowledgeable. We went on a Saturday night so it was a bit loud (it also happens to be in a downtown college campus area after a college event so that could have contributed), but we still were able to have comfortable conversation. Initially we thought it would be incredibly expensive, but at the end it ended up being pretty fairly priced for everything we ate and the quality. Overall a great experience and I would be happy to return.

The hostess had a lot to be desired, couldn't even give a smile. The waitress (DANI) was very nice and quite efficient. I forgot it is quite noisy on a Friday evening. Next time I will pick a day during the week or try and get a seat in the back.
