Hapa Izakaya, located in Vancouver, British Columbia, serves a variety of authentic Japanese cuisine in a casual, sit-down atmosphere. The restaurant makes each meal to order with fresh ingredients, including local seafood and imported Japanese spices and seasonings. Hapa Izakaya offers takeout services as well as full-service lunch and dinner.
Try the tuna avocado salsa dip or the edamame to start out your meal at Hapa Izakaya. Choose from over 40 different types of sushi and sashimi for lunch or dinner or try one of the restaurant's other entrées like the yaki udon or the chipotle beef curry ishi-yaki. For dessert, try the matcha brûlée or one of the restaurant's ice cream specials.
the happy hour menu has changed and the good stuff like the korean style rice bowls are gone.
Great atmosphere, awesome food, and even better service from the friendly and attentive servers.
Came to this location for the first time. Have tried most of their other locations. Music like all their locations was way too loud. Turn down the music. Good was decent. Hapa wings were tasteless. Could of used some seasoning or some lemon in the side. The portions are smaller than at Robson St. Location. The prawns in Ebi mayo seemed a lot smaller too. The mixed mushroom in stone bowl was good. Service was ok.
Four of us ventured to try Izakaya style eating for the first time and thought we'd give Hapa Izakaya a try. It was a wonderful experience. My boyfriend was a little disappointed with the sizes of the dishes. But that is all part of the sharing/small plates concept of izakaya.
The other 2 girls and I enjoyed the sharing style and tasting different flavors. I think it would be something I would do again with the girls.
I also loved the vibrant atmosphere at Hapa Izakaya.
This place is both tasty and fun, so it's great for casual get-togethers . SInce it's tapas-style Japanese, it is a nice bonding experience. We have several favourite dishes which our friends have also enjoyed, but I keep wishing that they'd bring back the chocolate ear grey ice cream ;)
I was there with my girlfriends for dinner and drinks. We loved the happy hour menu and we enjoyed great food and drinks. It is pretty noisy so you should be aware of that.
This is a must do each time i am in Vancouver. IDeal with small groups to share plates. Very noisy though so not for quiet conversation.
Had to wait about 15 min for our reserved table, hostess wasn't very friendly at the start of the our visit. However, our server was extremely patient and helpful with our group. Food was excellent - chipotle beef rice bowl and grilled squid was delicious.
We went to Hapa 2 or 3 times every month for group gathering and the food is always good.
The happy hour price, half price, usually 10-15 per person, very reasonable range.
The service is good and quick.
I loved eating at Happa and I always go here with my friends. I love the food and thats what keeps me coming back. the service is really bad, something in my order is always forgotten and sometimes it feels like im bothering my waitress when i remind her. Also the mango miso for the tropical is a horrible idea and you should rethink that idea because it tastes like artificial bubble gum.
Took the family of 4 out to Happa for Dine Out Vancouver. The food and service was very good. The sablefish was cooked perfectly. The deserts were okay, not spectacular. The restaurant is a bit out of the way for us but we will definitely go back.
While I've been to the Hapa Beach location as well as the Coal Harbour location, Yaletown is my favourite. I can always count on being greeted the second I step into the restaurant and the service is always consistent until I walk out the door. The food is delicious and usually comes pretty quickly. Looking forward to my next visit!
sometimes have to way for the food for a long time when is busy.
We came out for my sisters birthday. Reservations were made about 5 days prior. We had an awesome time at hapa. GREAT SERVERS, cool, fun vibe, and very tasty dishes. Only glitch was that some of the food took over an hour to come out. One dish actually came out close to two hours after ordering. I'm not sure if this is a regular thing, but the rest of the experience was so positive we decided to overlook it. (Everyone was picking at each other's plates so nobody went starving)
I don't think it was the complexity of the dishes, because edamame took over one hour to come out.
All in all, we will definitely go back, the overall experience was great. I will just not visit when I'm very hungry and need food now!
Menu is small, I went because the online reviews said the sashimi was top quality. Every little selection for sushimi. Service was great, atmosphere is perfect if heading out with friends
They ran out of happy hour wine and they asked us to leave after 2 hours because the table is reserved for another guest. But my two friends just arrived and was still eating.
Service was prompt and efficient. Appyies were hot. Ebi mayo tasted better at the Kits restaurant..the sauce was missing on the top. Cocktails were bit on the pricey side, glass was mainly full of ice and hardly any taste of liquor. Drink tasted more like a lemonade...which was pretty expensive for $8.
This was our second time at Hapa Izakaya - Yaletown and once again we were very happy with both food and beverages. We love to drop in!
Hapa Izakaya was suggested do my friend and I when I asked for a decent priced place for an early dinner. Their Hapa Hour is ridiculously affordable that we literally ordered one of everything on the Hapa Hour menu. The service was exceptional and seemed to enjoy their job. The food is flavourful, delicious and surprisingly not stingy on quantity during this time! I would definitely recommend this restaurant, especially during their Hapa Hour!
Everything was great but the fact that we had just finished dinner and our waitress rushed the bill on our table and was like whenever u are ready kinda made us feel like she wants us out ...
Stopped by before the hockey game - great, efficient service. Good value, and got out with time to spare before the game.
We hit happy hour - 5 in our party, the place was full, we never waited or felt ignored. Staff took the time to make suggestions and the food was great.
Food is always good at hapa, but of all the locations the service at the Yaletown location is not great.
I took my mom to Hapa Izakaya because a friend recommend it, and I assure you that she was right. It was a great experience but the most amazing thing was the service, he pay attention to every single detail from my email and he was really passionate about the food and explain all the menu because it was our first time there. I don't think a have to explain more that my mom ( who is really picky lol) was impressed with the food and service. Thanks
Overall very good, The food is very consistent to my prev experiences, however we ordered the large sashimi salad for the first time. It was full of lettuce and hardly any sashimi. Def not worth the price.
went here with my hubby after seeing the opera. not too busy for a sunday evening, but people were in-and-out throughout the evening. this was our first time at this location (have visited the coal harbour location) and it is definitely a great spot for a date! it's pretty cozy, trendy and has an energetic feel. our server said she was early in her career there, but she was knowledgeable enough to suggest how many tapas and which tapas we should try and everything was excellent! we had walked in 10min before our 6pm reso, and she even made an effort to get some of our order in before 6pm so we could take advantage of the happy-hour prices! she was great! would recommend to anyone for great fusion-sushi.
This was one of the only times that an unknowledgeable server has actually disrupted a dining experience for me to the point that it was unpleasant. We asked several servers for clarification on a menu item and received the same answer. My friend and I ordered it and it was not at all what the menu or the servers said it would be. I could not have been more clear with my question, and I would expect the staff in a Japanese izakaya to know what oshi/pressed sushi is without my having to spell it out for them. The menu item turned out to be a ball of rice (listed under sushi rolls). Will not be returning here again. Go to the Kits or Robson locations if you don't want to be frustrated by staff who have no idea what they're doing.
We recalled the last time (July) and thought the sauces weren't quite the same - the service was lacklustre..........a couple of dishes were cold (and shouldn't have been........) but still a tasty treat!
Have been here a few times and always delivers. Food is excellent, service is prompt. Highly recommended.
The food was interesting and tasty, and reasonably priced. The servers were polite and friendly. It was very noisy, even outside. The decor throughout is uninspired--unless "crowded" is a theme. Fine for a very casual supper or hanging out with friends for drinks and appies, but definitely not the right choice for a special or romantic evening out, and by no means "fine dining".
My host was not pleased. His rating is a so-so, unlike his previous experiences at this Hapa. The dishes were tasty but small, and pricey. Delicious but not worth the menu price. Ambience was good but not worth returning. Too many other great restaurants in Yaletown to patronize!
Everything we ordered, from the drinks to the food, was like a work of art...and we didn't have to wait long either! Great restaurant!
Awesome food! Loved how you could choose lots of different meals for great prices etc. big set back- rude servers!! No smiles, asking how we are. It was my bday and she knew it and she didn't wish me a happy bday. When I asked a different server to take a pic of she took an awful one with bad lighting (didn't care about out pic). So when I asked for another she rolled her eyes and frowned!!
Hapa's is always my destination food place when I want good food, excellent service and perfect ambience. Best part is, they always deliver. Have introduced several groups of friends to Hapa over the years and now my daughters do the same with theirs. Keep up the great work and we will keep returning. Thank you!
Had a party of 8.... Was a Saturday evening.... Table ready, waiting....service was fantastic... And noticed every table was getting fast service.... ALL food came out piping hot... Fantastic presentation...super friendly and outgoing, extremely attractive staff....
Very reasonable pricing.... Would highly recommend to anyone... Although... This is our third visit... All three times were 6 or more with a reservation well in advance.... Not sure of walk ups...
Regardless... A gem of yaletown...
Two enthusiastic thumbs up!!
enjoyed the Cardova location but Yaletown even more! I would recomend arrving early and trying for the patio as the noise level inside can be too much - the food was REALLY good, with delicious sauces and outstanding pricing. We had a dinner for 2, 7 items, with beer to start and hot sake with our food for about $100.00!!!! Service was good - not particularly friendly but effecient.
We had a reservation and went when it wasn't crowded but well before closing. Our server kept trying to take our food and drinks away before we were finished and rushed us out before a half an hour in the restaurant. Considering, it's is not a cheap place, this seemed truly unacceptable.
Very good food at a very fair price. Great quality and selection
Went and enjoyed Hapa Hour. Lots of choices, even for my vegetarian wife (lacto, ovo, pesca). We always get the kinoko ishi-yaki, but have trouble waiting for the rice to get crunchy (we're a little impatient ;).
Love Hapa. The ishiaki was delicious as was the Dungenous Crab Tempura roll, ebi mayo and tuna+avocado thing. I'd eat there 3 times a week.
