Good Food - Good Service What else can I say! My wife and I were first time customers and were very glad we used Open Table for a reservation on a Sunday night. We've visited Charleston many time but never got to Hanks. We're glad we did and will return.

We have vacationed in Charleston several times and never tried Hanks. This trip was special our 40th anniversary. We picked different restaurants do to the occasion. So glad Hanks was one of them. Food was excellent and the service was impeccable.

Amazing food, great service, and a beautiful setting. The shecrab soup was delicious and so was the Seafood a La Wando. Will be back again.

As usual Hanks was wonderful! Everyone enjoyed our meals and we sat in a booth which was very comfortable and gave us the ability to talk and catch the whole scene. Looking forward to coming back again.

Just average food. A nice salad dressing and tasty collards but the tuna tartar was tasteless and fried seafood was the same as you can get anywhere. Good wine selection by the glass. Excellent server, Jamison. Had asked for a quiet table, were given a prime table by the front window but it was beside a noisy table for 8.

After dining at several Charleston Restaurants we ended our trip at Hanks. We had a late reservation and the restaurant was only half full. Our waitress seemed to be distracted even though she couldn’t of had more than a few tables. The food was average. The pimento cheese grits were good but the spinach was bland...just cooked fresh spinach without seasoning. We had fried shrimp and grouper which was good but not anything that you couldn’t get at other Charleston Restaurants.

Hank's is a local favorite. We had the steamed clams in white wine and garlic, British Columbia raw oysters and shrimp cocktails to start. Then for dinner we had the live main lobster and the Ala Wando....all dishes were fabulous, as always. You can count on excellent seafood and service every time you go to Hank's. If you are in more of a social mood be sure to sit at the community table (first come first serve) to meet wonderful folks engaging in fun conversation.

Decided to have 2 appetizers for my meal. I had the lump crab meat cocktail and 1/2 pound peel and eat shrimp. Both were incredible and satisfied my cravings.

Always try to hit Hank's when in town. Please make sure to get s reservationin advance to ensure that you will get in.

We enjoyed our dinner and dessert Thanksgiving night at Hanks. Our son newly graduated from USMC boot camp on Parris Island and we decided to spend our Thanksgiving holiday in Charleston. This restaurant did not disappoint. We had a fantastic dinner; most of us had Seafood a la Wando and my son had the Seafood Platter #5 (non-fried) and loved it. The service was impeccable and staff is well-trained, efficient and incredibly polite. We hope to make it back to Charleston someday when we can spend more time in the city but we will make sure Hank's is on our list. The bourbon pecan pie is simply outstanding! Our server Jamison made the experience extraordinary. 🦀💕👍😍🍷🥃🦐
On a side note, it was Thanksgiving night. They were slammed busy. Our reservation if 5 people was for 8:15. At 8:30 our table was nearly ready, many others still waiting. A VERY RUDE family of 6 walked in, looked around, and seated themselves at our table! I watched it happen but said nothing. The hostess, to her credit, realized what had happened, tried to take care of it and they would not leave the table! The waitress handling that section then told the RUDE, ENTITLED-FEELING family that they needed to get up. They were angry, and rude to us! They glared at us and even made a few very rude nasty comments to my son and husband. They acted like WE had done something wrong. The staff and management handled the situation perfectly. They were stern but polite to the rude guests, seated them at a different table and sat us at our intended table. They apologized over and over to us and compensated by buying our dessert and wine. Unnecessary but appreciated. The incident was not the fault of the restaurant staff or manager but they all went out of their way to make us feel welcome. They were professional and did not overreact to an unfortunate situation - instead they all handled it with the utmost poise and class.

Our dinner was well prepared and the food tasty as always at Hanks. However, our evening was ruined by the father and twenty something year old daughter that sat next to us. They were fighting and swearing at each other throughout the whole meal. It was like being at the most uncomfortable, dysfunctional family event ever. Thought we were on a reality TV show. We really couldn't enjoy our dinner. We told our waitress once they left, as did the couple who sat on the other side of the nightmare table. All she said was she wished we had told her. Well we did tell her. I was shocked we didn't even get a part of our meal complimented. The lady who sat on the other side said she wasn't planing on drinking, but decided with all the drama she had to order one. In fact the drama played out so long she ordered two! If it hadn't been Thanksgiving we would have left. So disappointing. Hanks management, I know it is not your fault. You can't control the behavior of your guest. But two tables had their evenings ruined and your staff didn't do a thing to make it right. Of that, you have to take ownership.

Amazing dinner, the grouper was absolutely delicious. My husband enjoyed the beef tenderloin with palmetto grits and fried green tomatoes. This was our first time dining at Hanks but not our last. Great service, no wait. Strongly recommend.

Grant our waiter was great. He spoke well and described and answered my questions very well. The only thing I would have changed is my seating and the shrimp was not as good as expected for this type of restaurant. I had shrimp on Monday from another nice restaurant, but on King and definitely it was better grade, cook and seasoning on their fried shrimp. When it's 2 people the table in the middle of the floor is always uncomfortable for me. It's unfortunate that only larger parties get the comforting booths or outer seating.

In for the holiday and Hank’s is still terrific!
Rocky start as table was not on-time, but management offered a communal high top and appetizer, which was kind. Our server was charming, informative and accommodating: the shrimp on the salad special was exceptional. Grits at Hank’s are always a treat, and last night they lived up to the memory. Relatives had the she-crab soup and were very pleased. Their seafood platters were fried and tasty, but portions so hearty that we have snacks today. Loud and lively, but consistently good seafood.
