Hank's Seafood Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
Seafood is difficult to do well at home. Hank’s has it down. We had six different seafood dishes and everyone raved! The wine list was not exhaustive , but did include enough options to allow very good pairings at a reasonable price. We will definitely return.
We had very good service by Justin and were seated in a great front corner table. Food was very good -- but bread was room temp and butter was hard and cold. The first time we went there, the bread was so soft and hot with room temp butter......wonderful. Its the extra touch that takes a restaurant experience from a 4 to a 5. That would have done it for us. Still loved overall experience and will be back.
Our third visit to Charleston and heard wonderful things about Hanks.
Was seated promptly and had a wonderful window table for 2 in a small room off main dining room. Unfortunately there were 4 small tables for 2 in this room and 2 large tables of 8 each that were having a party for some occasion.
You could not speak to your wife or the waiter or hear anything including the specials. Our waiter continually apologized as the party yelled back and forth between tables.
Just a note to Hanks All 4 couples who had dinner at the small tables left as soon as their meals were finished. No deserts-no after dinner drinks-no enjoyable after dinner conversation like you would have at a restaurant.
Just 4 annoyed couples who didn’t enjoy there experience and more than likely not return.
Why you would ever place 4 intimate tables in a room with 16 people is beyond me.
As always live and learn
My husband and I at at Hank's to celebrate our anniversary. We arrived 30 minutes early for our reservation and were able to be seated right away, which was a plus. The food was excellent. We both loved the she-crab soup. His flounder was perfect, as were my scallops. Dessert was perfect. He had a chocolate-coffee torte, and I had the creme brûlée. It was so thoughtful to include a "Happy Anniversary" message in chocolate on our desserts. The only issue was that if you are not in a booth along the wall, you are not afforded much privacy for conversation. I expected the place to be fairly empty with the snowstorm, but it was still packed!
It was our first time to Hank's. Best seafood I've had in Charleston. The Fried Calamari was not too heavily breaded and tender as could be. My husband had the mussels and said they were delicious. We had the salad with the chow-chow which I was skeptical when ordering it. It was amazing. Could eat that everyday.
Can't wait to go back and try other things.
Came into town on 1/1/18 and this was our first meal in the city. We stayed at the DoubleTree just next door as it is promoted by the hotel and saw great reviews online.
We were a party of 5 and between us had the calamari, tuna tartare, she crab soup and ceviche for appetizers. She crab soup was great as was the tartare. Kids enjoyed the calamari....before I could try any, they were gone. We’ve had better ceviche.
Shared the grouper and that was good. The goat cheese risotto was very good and I don’t like goat cheese. There’s just a hint of the cheese taste.
2 Kids shared the #1 platter with grouper and fried shrimp and the other had a kids pasta. The platter was just ok as voted by them. I did try the fried shrimp and it was a good size and fresh but a bit on the tasteless side.
We shared the pecan pie and peanut butter pie. Pecan pie was incredible. Peanut butter pie was good.
I’d definitely return to try other items in the menu. Waiter was great.
The restaurant was one of our favorites during the visit in Charleston. We will definitely eat here again. We had the grouper special with goat cheese risotto and greens and it was delicious. We had a torte for dessert and it melted in your mouth. Wine list was very good too.
Our favorite restaurants were all booked up for New Year's Eve so we made a reservation at Hank's, knowing there was a possibility that we would be seated at a tiny table just a foot or
so from the other tiny tables and that is exactly what happened. It is a noisy restaurant to begin
with but seated so close to other tables with people trying to talk, it is impossible to have even
a normal conversation much less a personal conversation. The food and service were great but
the noise and proximity to other tables just ruined the evening for us. We will not return. If you
are considering this restaurant, go with more than 2 people so you can be seated at a nicer table.
We had our New Years Eve dinner here with good friends. Everything we ordered was delicious. The service was excellent. It was very crowded, as it was New years Eve, but the staff handled it well. We ordered drinks at the bar while we waited to be seated...the bartender did a wonderful job of keeping everyone happy. We would definitely eat here again. Great place, fun and good food!
Excellent seafood place for dinner. All the dishes we ordered was fresh and delicious. For appetizers we ordered crispy calamari & shrimp and steamed mussels. Both were awesome - the steamed mussels is not only fresh but the sauce was creamy and full of flavor.
You can’t go wrong with collards green or pimento cheese grits as side dishes.
Go for the lobster to share. Leave some room for pecan pie dessert.
