Fabulous meal! We’ve lived in Charleston for 8 years and although had not dined here in years, Hanks does not disappoint. Wonderful service, and a divine dining experience- highly recommended!
Food was great. Jessica, our server, was amazing!!!
The food was fantastic. Our server Luca was fabulous. He was so helpful and made it a great experience
We showed up a little early for our reservation and they were able to work us in on a cancelation. Very accommodating and very nice. Every dish we ordered was delicious and beautifully put together! Waitress and table service was on point as well 👌
Overall great experience.
Really GREAT fresh seafood. I had the grilled flounder and was very impressed
Great meal, great service. We were hoping for an excellent seafood experience in Charleston, and Hank's provided just that.
Loved our waitress!
Had scallops, they were awesome
Came at the last minute after a performance at the Guillard for a late dinner. Had one of the best servers I have had in any Charleston restaurant. Didn’t rush me, very knowledgeable and great at wine pairing suggestions and patient with my slow selection. Good sense of humor as well. Food was very good - the tuna was delish.
Hank's never disappoints. The seafood is always fresh and prepared perfectly. Looking forward to my next trip here.
Very much enjoyed everything about our meal - wine, food, and service were all very good. The seafood was fresh and well-prepared. A bit pricey, but worth it for a special occasion.
Did our 40th wedding anniversary at Hank's and we really enjoyed it. Yes good food but great drinks, the bar knows how to use its bourbon! Coming from the Chicago area and being used to good food we were not disappointed.
Overpriced and average food Service was nice as was atmosphere but would not return
Oysters were good. Grouper was excellent and perfectly cooked. Key lime pie best ever. Nice wine list.
Waitress recommended both the appetizer and the main course. For an appetizer we shared the crab cakes which for very different from any more standard cakes, met her description and were delicious. For main course I had shrimp - large and plentiful portion which were very well seasoned and very tasty.
Exceptionally good seafood. We had the seafood combo #5.
Hanks had incredible seafood and drinks. It was a great restaurant to start off our trip.
Excellent food and service
We came here for dinner and fortunately we had made reservations in advance. We were seated promoted and a very nice server Grant. He informed us that fresh soft shell crabs were available and we placed an order before the kitchen ran out. We were served nice warm bread - a big plus in my book. My husband chose the broiled seafood platter that came with shrimp, scallops, grouper, coleslaw and sweet potato fries. The food was served promptly. Both dishes were fresh and excellently cooked and presented. One “complaint” is that the sauce served with my crab was too rich for me. I think I would have preferred to eaten the sweet soft crab plain! The only other small deficiency in our experience was that our water glasses were not refilled nor did somebody came by our table to check on us during our meal. They did afterwards. It was a very busy night.
We both are lactose intlerant and they were most accommodating, checking ingredients and omitting butter from the cooking process. Would go again.
We’ve been to most of the top restaurants in Charleston, and Hanks is our favorite. The roast salmon with mustard sauce is the best salmon dish I’ve ever had. This is our “must go to” restaurant every time we visit Charleston. The service is also outstanding.
The food is to die for delicious and the service exceptional. We didn't have a reservation so sat at the communal table and loved it.
Great food, nice atmosphere! Personable staff. Would go again for shrimp and grits.
We had some out of town guests and took them to Hank's due to the quality and variety of the seafood. It did not disappoint. Food was great and the service was very attentive
The only negative is that it is very noisy.
Amazing place. Wonderful food, terrific service, vibrant atmosphere! Loved everything about Hank's and can't wait to come back. A must when visiting Charleston!
Great- start to finish
My sister-in-law was visiting from VA/France. I decided we should go to Hanks for her last night here in town. We both were not disappointed in my choice.
We each had an appetizer that was shared. The selection of seafood entrees was wonderful as well as the choices of wine and other alcoholic beverages.
Upon finishing each course our table was cleared in a timely manner. We were never rushed.
Dessert was suggested along with coffee. My sister-in-law enjoyed the fruit and sorbet. Our server brought us each a spoon so that it could be shared.
It was a fabulous last night in town for my sister-in-law.
The food was fantastic, and atmosphere amazing. The only draw back was the noise level.
A couple of weeks ago I received an email from Hanks stating soft shell crabs are now in season and availabe at Hanks. It was very disappointing when I was told they didn’t have them that day. My reason for going to Hanks ended up a dissapointment.
Food, drinks, and service were all excellent! We really enjoyed our date night and will try to return if we’re ever in Charleston again!
Great food, great service. Very nice restaurant but still works for families.
We had a big party. They split us up which was very disappointing.
The casino oysters were fantastic! Service was excellent. We liked that there were options for those who preferred old fashioned fried seafood platters as well as more trendy "foodie" presentations. The colonial daiquiri is one of the best drinks I've ever had. It is definitely on the expensive side, but worth it for a memorable meal.
Wonderful, amazing dining experience. Nicely varied menu and the Wondo and Maine Lobsters was cooked to perfection. Cappucino and pecan pie - both the best that I have ever tasted. Service by Ben was attentive and spot on. Very special restaurant, a very special dinner and a rare treat.
My grouper was overcooked to the point of being rubbery. The risotto was just not that good. I can say that the wait staff and management were very nice and replaced the fish with apologies and further checking to make sure we were satisfied. My husband got the same dish but his fish was cooked properly and was decent tasting. It is never fun to sit and watch your dinner companion eat while you wait for a new dish and then eat yours while they wait and watch you eat.
My overall opinion was the dinner was fine. My husband had dined here for a business dinner and felt the service and food was outstanding so when family was in town I thought it would be a good place to take them. However, there were a few areas that could be improved upon. First. we arrived to the restaurant early,4:40 for a 5:00 pm reservation, and were told we had to wait at least 10 minutes before being seated. This would have been perfectly acceptable if the staff wasn't letting other people in to sit at the bar. I thought well if they aren't open I understand, but that didn't appear to be the case. Also, when we were seated and ready to order our drinks our server wouldn't take the order until she came back with water first. After she filled our glasses we told her again we would like to order our drinks and she said she would be back in a few minutes to get the drink order. Really? How many times do we have to ask to have our drink order taken. The rest of the evening went pretty smooth, service was adequate, most of the food was good. One of our guest said her fish was slightly overcooked and no she didn't say anything. My dinner was fine, I ordered chicken because I don't like seafood. I don't expect a lot when I am at a seafood place and don't order seafood, but for the prices you could kick you non-seafood dishes up a notch. I hate to pay that much for a dinner and feel like I could have made it at home. Since my husband's first experience was so above average and this experience was fine I would certainly give the restaurant another try, but was a little disappointed in this experience.
Enjoyed the buzz of this vibrant restaurant. Ordered the soft shell crabs which were fried. It was very rich and I was unable to finish the dish. The crab cake we had as an appetizer was delicious! I heard the clam chowder was very good, but did not try the soup. The seafood looked very good, I just chose the wrong dish. Would recommend giving this restaurant a try.
Incredible seafood, she crab soup and shrimp n grits where epic and amazing flavors.
Outstanding cocktail menu and desserts!
Food was fantastic! We started with the tower which had raw oysters, mussels, 2 kinds of shrimp and lobster. A tower of deliciousness. One one of us had the soft shell crab which was perfectly crispy. Another had the shrimp and grits which were the best she ever had. I had the seafood Wando which was full of seafood with a nice creamy sauce. Our waiter was very nice. Not pushy at all. Very nice experience.
