We had a great experience! Hank's menu for Restaurant Week included a variety of delicious options. The portions were generous and the food was fabulous. We look forward to going back to Hank's!
My favorite restaurant in Charleston. Always great, food service and experience. Never leave, Hanks!
Go Hungry. Don't expect a lot of atmosphere, do expect to be very close to the stranger at the next table - if you were home they would be at the same table - BUT, the food is very good.
Very busy, convivial place! Really enjoyed the roasted grouper! And, my husband was hungry for lobster. He ended up with not just one, but two smaller Maine lobsters! Very cool!
This was our first visit to Hanks. The food was excellent and the atmosphere very relaxed and welcoming.
Matt was an excellent server! The other staff were very pleasant and accommodating as well. Our Grouper was a little over cooked in all 3 of our entrees. Tuna on 1 entree was perfect tho. Bathrooms were different with stalls for women and men side by side which was a little odd and awkward. We live in the area and enjoy Hanks, but the Grouper is usually much better.
Our go to when we want to show off Charleston Low Country cuisine.
Excellent meal. We've dined often in Charleston and there is frequently an issue...the food is just ok, the food is great but the service leaves something to be desired. Hank's is by far the best we've experienced. Delicious food, a great setting and a staff that has no issues if you wish to dine in a slower manner and savor the evening. We'll definitely be back and you should go as well.
Awesome experience. Food was Excellent! Had broiled seafood platter
My wife and I were in Charleston for the weekend of September 13-15 celebrating our anniversary. We are both seafood lovers and Hank's was highly recommended. They did not disappoint. The three course optional meal we selected featured a peach salad, an entree of broiled shrimp for my wife and grilled swordfish for myself, and pound cake or key lime pie for dessert. It was one of the best dining experiences we've ever had. We understand why Hank's Seafood has been ranked one of Charleston's top restaurants for 18 years. It is a must stop for culinary connoisseurs.
This was our first time to Hank's and it was great. Excellent waitstaff and the food was spot on. Clean sweet raw oysters, fantastic bouilliabase, etc. Also the drinks were perfect. We came for my wife's birthday and she was extremely pleased. Thanks.
We were celebrating our anniversary with a few friends. When we arrived for our reservation, we were quickly seated. In addition to regular menu, Charleston Restaurant week menu was also available. Two in our group ordered off regular menu and two ordered off the special menu. One of our diners has some allergies and her needed substitutions were filled with no resistance from our waiter. Our food arrived and was delicious as always. Hank's continues to deliver the excellent service and fresh seafood dishes which has made this our favorite Charleston area restaurant for many years.
What a wonderfully delicious evening! The oysters and tuna tartare were outstanding. The shrimp and grits did not disappoint. It has to be the best in Charleston. Two of us savored the tasty seafood sample. Our waiter, Casey, made sure our gluten-free eating diner was given a variety of selections. He made the evening very special with his attentive service and knowledge of the menu items and wines.
Food and wait staff were very good, the only reason we rated 4 stars and not 5 was the extreme noise level. I was sitting right across from my wife and had to lean in and turn my ear towards her just to her what she was saying. FYI. I’m not old or deaf.
Visit with medical school friend!
Excelled food and the service was superb
I had 2 one lb lobsters. Best I have ever tasted. My wife had tuna, which was also great.
The food and service easy exceptional. I will certainly recommend it to my friends.
Hank’s is always wonderful! The moment you walk in the door you are greeted with a warm welcome. The food is just amazing! The staff is always top notch! One of our favorite restaurants to visit.
Good food and service, seafood was fresh and delicious.
Out ALL TIME FAVORITE!!! We will be back! Stay safe from the storm!
Consistency, consistency, consistency. My go to in Charleston.
Outstanding food and servers. We were treated special
Much better options in Charleston than this. Food was ordinary and not properly prepared. Also, extremely salted food. Way overpriced for what it is leveraging its location to tourist spot.
Kitchen help sitting around outside around the corner also hurt experience as they were using expletives in their trashy chatter both on our way in and way out. I wouldn’t expect that from a place marketing itself as higher end.
Again, much better options nearby for your dining dollar and not worth wasting an expensive meal here.
Other options as spoiled in Charleston to have so many great places. Hanks is not a good choice.
We celebrated our Anniversary at Hank’s and glad we did. Server was wonderful- energetic and friendly. Food was the best we had on this Charleston visit. My husband had the pan seared scallops - large, done perfectly. I had a special- yellow fin tuna which was awesome. Done to perfection and served with a crispy potato cake that was yummy. Finished dinner with pecan pie - Yum! Perfect dinner for our anniversary. They made it feel special
Very good food. Only negative is that they are remodeling the bathrooms and they have a men’s and women’s stall right next to each other which was odd.
Great seafood restaurant! Crab cakes were sooooo good. Overall great experience
Great menu, great service and great quality of food! Best chicken in Charleston especially for seafood joint. We will continue to keep coming back!
First time in visiting this restaurant and after hearing great reviews we had very high expectations. The food was great and the restaurant is lovely. The only issue we had was the tables are too close to each other. So much so that we could hear everyone’s conversations and the servers stood with their butts practically in your face as they waited on the tables on both sides of ours.
The servers were very attentive but to the point of having constant interruptions and we felt rushed. We expect our dinner date to be at least two hours and we were done in an hour! Would have been less but we refused to give the waiter our meal order until we had finished our appetizers. They came out before we could even pour our wine and finish reading the menu.
Overall the food was great in value and preparation. If we ever return we will make a point of requesting a private booth and telling the waiter to stop rushing us.
Yummy food, very nice service, and very accommodating with changes due to a gluten and dairy allergy. Went here with a girlfriend for dinner Monday night while in Charleston on vacation, and had a great meal. We were a little early for our reservation but were seated right away by the hostess, who was super friendly and sweet. Our waiter was also friendly, quick, and responsive, and our food delish. We split the lump crab appetizer, which was fresh and delicious and a nice portion (we're used to NY prices!) and we both had the sauteed flounder with more lump crab and asparagus and baby tomatoes. Very yummy, and I had mine with the mustard vinaigrette because of the aformentioned gluten and dairy allergy. The interior is perhaps a little staid and traditional for my tastes, and is reminiscent of an old school seafood or steak house. Overall awesome meal and highly recommend!
Great seafood - we both had the specials and enjoyed them!
Disappointed in the salad special, which was fried green tomatoes (advertised as “meaty”), fresh local peaches, and arugula. The only thing meaty about the fried green tomatoes was the thickness of the breading around the sliver (not slice) of green tomato, no thicker than 1/8 of an inch. Between the two of us, we had 6 fried green tomatoes - all the same. The peaches were disappointing as well - crisp as an apple and not very flavorful. I mentioned this to our waiter who said he would say something to the kitchen. Never heard anything more about it.
Our main course was good - the flash fried flounder with crabmeat. However, my wife and I were splitting the meal. We asked if they would plate them separately. Response was “we don’t normally do that but, since we are not busy, we can do that for you”. Well thanks for that favor. Is that really your policy when a customer asks? We finished with the key lime pie, which was delicious.
Upon presentation of the bill, no adjustment was made for the salads, no further apology or any other effort to acknowledge the sub-standard. It felt to us as if it just didn’t matter.
I expect Hanks to be top-notch, with their food service and their food quality- a wow meal. Charleston has many good restaurants and we see no need to come back to Hanks after this disappointing experience.
Overall a very nice experience !
Food was excellent with a good variety.
Anniversary for friends visiting from out of town. Did not do anything to recognize friend’s anniversary.
Outstanding service and recommendations from our waiter Paul.
I was absolutely delighted with my dinner at Hanks. My daughter and I enjoyed everything from the reservation on open table, the hostess confirming and moving us to a more convenient dining time, to the food, the wine list, and most especially the atmosphere and our server. I was very happy with this experience .
Loved this restaurant! The atmosphere, the wait staff, the menu and the food were simply outstanding. I would highly recommend and wish I was here longer so I could go back. My tuna was the best meal I have ever eaten and the competition was stiff! Do. Not. Miss.
I Have not eaten at Hanks in over 20 years and it was still as great as I remembered. We had the Seafood Castle and then found out that they had one bigger than that. I will definitely be back.
Food was delicious! Service was great! Ambiance was nice. It was a tad louder than I prefer but otherwise a fantastic experience.
We stopped in for lunch on a Sunday afternoon, the food and drinks were superb as well as the service. We'll definitely be returning on our next trip to Charleston.
