Hank's Pasta Bar
Dependable food and excellent service. A nice neighborhood spot.
Service was excellent!!! I really enjoyed my food. And both are drinks were fabulous. My husband however thought his food was simply above average. That said it was Valentine’s Day and they were slammed. We will definitely go back
Always amazing. For a special event or just for great food. One of my favorites.
Great food and service! The lasagna is fantastic!
loved the grilled calamari, so tender and tasty! the fish special was also awesome!
Good family style meal for a family birthday celebration
Pasta is fresh and sauces each different
Desserts were fresh and well made. My wife is a pastry chef and enjoyed to meal.
This was our second time at Hank’s Pasta Bar. We returned for my birthday hoping to have a really wonderful night. We were seated in the back room, which is a stark contrast to the front rooms- but still a nice area. Our server must have been having a rough day. She check our ids for wine and asked my age, so I informed her that it just changed because it was my birthday. CRICKETS. This is fine, although I always appreciate when servers ask if you’re celebrating a special occasion and offer a simple salutation. She quickly took our order and walked away. When we finished our meal (which was very enjoyable) we requested to see the dessert menu so I could celebrate with something sweet. In the middle of eating our key lime pie she put our check on the table.
Overall it was fine- but definitely not special. Wish we would have gone somewhere else and returned on a random Tuesday!
We were seated in the far back room - cold draft. We asked to be moved and we're moved - there were plenty of other tables in the front part. Service was excellent food ok.
We always love coming to Hank's pasta bar! The food and service are always wonderful and we have always had wonderful service. I would highly recommend coming here!
Such a terrific neighborhood restaurant. Excellent food. Fun atmosphere. Friendly and knowledgeable servers. A really great night out!
Food and service were fantastic. Will definitely be back.
First time at Hank's Pasta Bar and it did not disappoint. Food was delicious. Especially enjoyed the octopus, meatballs & crostini appetizers. Main courses of rabbit ragu, chicken prosciutto ravioli & braised lamb shank were excellent. From the moment we walked in the door all the staff was very welcoming. Service was very good and attentive. Looking forward to returning soon.
We made a reservation for a birthday dinner Saturday night, earlier than we normally would, just to guarantee a spot. Good thing, too; the waiting area was absolutely packed when we left. Staff was attentive and friendly. Our water glasses were never empty and all our entrees were delicious. Highly recommend the crostini. Our birthday guest was given a complementary off-menu dessert. Overall, a lovely experience.
We were greeted very kindly.
Our waiter Brandon was excellent! He has worked there since 2016 and knows the menu exceptionally. He made some great recommendations. The food was very good. Recommend noodle dishes. Price points were in par with most nice restaurants in the DMV. Plan for $50 pp.
Overall a great meal with great service!
Great great service! The mint matcha vodka drink was awesome. The chicken prosciutto ravioli leave a lot of longing for better food. It’s just ground together, so you don’t get to taste either chicken or prosciutto.
I took my daughter and her friends here for a birthday dinner. As usual, the service was wonderful....the staff is attentive without being annoying. In addition to the great pasta we had the ample sampler platter and octopus, both were delish! The Key Lime Pie is also a nice option to chocolate for dessert. The noise level was moderate as the place was packed, so it was perfect for the girls to chatter and giggle away. I’ve been here at non-peak times and was able to have a quiet conversation. I will keep coming back!
great food, great professional service
I've eaten here on a number of occasions and Hank's just gets better every time. Most recently we went to celebrate my Aunt's 90th birthday. I had called ahead and they brought her a celebratory dessert at the end of the meal. She was tickled and happy with our server's sincere well wishes.
The menu has solid choices of Italian greats...lasagna bubbling and tomato-y delicious, papperdelle as good as your mom-in law's - only without the kvetching.
Few choices for vegetarians. Food was disappointng. Bill was too high for mediocre food.
After all the reviews I read I had high hopes but sadly, I didn't really think any of the food was truly memorable. One of my pet peeves is when food doesn't come out nice and hot and our table shared among several pasta dishes, none of which seemed hot enough for my liking. The bowls are kind of shallow so that doesn't help and yes, the portions are all on the small side, contrary to many an Italian restaurant. I was looking forward to trying the beets with star anise but they tasted like straight up regular beets to me. I wish I could point to something that wowed me but I can get better pasta at any number of places. Several in our party recommended the coconut sorbet. Service was solid, save for a woman constantly trying to take our plates before we were done. Anyway, if I was in the area, I may try again but I won't go out of my way to return.
The food at Hanks never disappoints. The Restaurant Week wine pairing felt like a great deal. I just wish it wasn't so very loud; it makes it difficult to go with a group.
Birthday celebration— food was great ... service was great...and complimentary pane cotta for my birthday! DELICIOUS
Food was s disappointment. Either too much salt or not enough flavors across the board on all the dishes. Pretty disappointed
Great place for lunch. Food and service were exceptional.
Food was amazing and server was on point!
Walked in for an 8pm reservation and was seated within minutes. Delicious food and very attentive service. Also enjoyed the music selection through the overhead speakers.
Sneaky Expensive for mediocre Italian. I had been to Hank's twice before and had similar opinion when I left, "Well, that wasn't worth that." My wife and I went when it first opened a few years back and had high hopes for a new Italian neighborhood restaurant and knew of Hank's reputation at their Oyster Bar. Food and service were okay, but we were shocked that a casual dinner for two exceeded $225. Next time we ordered with that in mind, still just okay, I'm not a cheap diner by any stretch, I spend over $450 a week on two meals out regularly.
We decided to give it another try with another couple for restaurant week thinking that might be a worthwhile experience. We even went elsewhere for pre-dinner cocktails ($100). We were seated at a rather awkward and uncomfortable table and needed to be moved, which they easily accommodated. We got a round of drinks, three of us ordered the $35 prix fixe dinner and my wife order a $20 pasta. Three of us shared a $60 bottle of wine. Our (2) Osso Bucco were tiny, child's portions and the Polenta was inedibly over seasoned. It was too late to send it back, so we carried on. My wife's pasta was more or less dining hall mac and cheese. Other diner seemed happy with Eggplant Parm. Bill came in again at over $330. Had the food been better quality I could have stomached the sticker price but the quality simply isn't there. Three strikes, you're out. There are better options competing for your dining dollar in Old Town.
Having been longtime fans of Hank's Oyster Bar, this establishment's sister in Old Town, we decided to try the Pasta Bar over on the other side of Alexandria, near the water towards DC.
This is a cozy modern restaurant with a lovely bar. Honestly, everything was excellent, from the craft cocktails to the service and meal itself.
While I'll usually go into great detail on each dish, I will skip that detail as these guys are truly firing on all cylinders. We did have the sardines as a starter which were... fantastic! They were the closest we have had since a trip to the Mediterranean a few years ago and a true treat. Fot those not willing to take the effort to consume whole fish, freaked out by heads, tails, bones etc. go for the squid or other lovely starters. But know, the sardines are super delish. We can't get enough of their pastas but they are really perfection. from the housemade fennel sausauge in one dish to the lovely panchetta in the carbonora. The sauces are rich yet straight-forward. Utterly satisfying. The Broccolini Rabe was just about the best version of this simple side I've ever tasted.
We opted for a special promotion bottle of wine to accompany our meal and at a very reasonable $45. it was the perfect pair. The rest of the wine list appears repectable and moderately priced.
Even with a reservation it was slightly busy and we waited for about 15 minutes at the bar where we enjoied some lovely well crafted cocktails. I opted for a Negroni (they offer a few variations) and it was exquisetly well balanced.
Anyway, we are fans. Eventually want to try everything on the menu. Please, go and judge for yourself.
Went for Alexandria restaurant week. Good selections and tasty wine sampler. Service was excellent.
We had the carbonara and duck pasta dishes - excellent as always. Service was outstanding.
Our server (Brandon) was fantastic and really knew the menu. I really enjoyed the tiramisu and fuscili.
My friends and I had a lovely birthday lunch for a colleague. Every choice was tasty, from the special winter cocktails to the cannoli sampler at the end of the meal. All the pasta choices seemed to be hits, as was the lobster bisque - perfect for the snow day! My salad of warm burrata was tasty, but there was an abundance of kale in less than bite-sized pieces, which made me a bit sloppy! The cheese board was nice, but expensive for what was served.
We were under the impression that Hank's was participating in Restaurant Week, but when we asked whether there was a special menu, were told that they were beginning RW service later that evening. Disappointing, but not so much that we were going to leave.
We love Hank's Pasta Bar, we visit about once a week or every 10 days. The best part about Hank's is the atmosphere -- the servers, bartenders and management are wonderful people. They are personable, and foster a neighborhood atmosphere and are so welcoming but always professional. We often eat their fish specials, pastas (mushroom seasonal dish was amazing this fall; clams linguini is always great). We also like their appetizers and healthy salads.
The olive oil and sides are always healthy --- something important if you dine out often ....
From start to finish , Hanks will surprise you with the casual chic decor to the amazing wine list. The rack of lamb and octopus were the stars of the night. Manager selected a very nice rose to accompany the meal. Very nice all around. Will definitely be back to explore more of what they have to offer !
Great service and food
As usual, Hanks Pasta Bar was wonderful. I love their gluten free pasta and the pasta preparations are out of this world delicious. Their wine list is nice, and I also had an Italian soda this time that was so refreshing and lovely. The restaurant is an oasis. Visit!
Food is awesome.
It was delicious! Service was ok. Waiter was helpful with selections.
Had to wait for a reserved table so they decided to comp us a app. Unexpected but appreciated.
We got the "For the Love of Pasta" with 3 pastas and all were delicious! It came with an Antipasti Board which was good but could have been a bit more interesting. We also got the Arugula Salad which was very good. The service was very responsive and friendly. Very enjoyable meal!
I was looking forward to dining at Hank’s Pasta bar since I had heard good things. I ordered the evening’s special which was a lobster risotto. It was over cooked and mushy and underwhelming to say the least. The ambience was okay and the service was good.
